the public probably didn't like it for the same reason it is such a downer too many. it's a great film ruined by Hallie breaking heroic tom's heart.

not a hard film to come by. made a search with my torrent search app and DLed a lovely mpeg4 file, a WEBRip. since the frame rate is 23.97 and since I'm all out of blank DVDs I'll put it on a CD. it's not a perfect film. I think Pal shoulda given us more scary matte shots of Bellus as it homes in on the earth.

to me The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance has always been especially moving because Duke has the thankless job of playing a man callously spurned by the woman he loves and who dam well shoulda known how he felt about her. so I continue to wonder is this film a tribute to a tenderfoot eastern lawyer who sees the future of the west... or... is it a tribute to a strong man of the west who sacrifices what he wants for the happiness of the woman he loves.

what command! what strength! what persona! John Wayne! the first name in screen toughness.
