I never saw more than a couple of minutes of Banacek, although I know people that liked it. I watched a few episodes of The A-Team and thought it was terrible.

I didn't actively dislike Peppard for a long time, I just thought he was bland and uninteresting, and whenever I'd see him in something, I always thought the film would have been better with someone else cast in his role. Later his smugness began to be very off-putting, and when I read several stories of how much of a jerk he was to nearly everyone else around him, I disliked him more, despite normally trying to separate on and off-screen personas.

He's one of a small handful of performers whose work I'll avoid.

he's kinda like James garner only more uninteresting.

  5. I won't waste time on the story details like I usually do since I assume most of you have seen this. tried to watch it once before but lost interest but last nite gave it a whirl. dean martin imo was miscast as someone else like say john saxon or steve ihnat woulda been better. martin is too suave and urbane for this. one plothole to me is why flood ambushes the stage wagon which is never explained and why didn't he simply have some of his jericho killer scum do it? was he worried about dolan coming to his town? and he surely knew of Hickman's rep. twice in the course of the film it is alluded to that flood does things like an indian which too is never elaborated on.

it was somewhat enjoyable watching it and jean simmons is much more hotter and friskier than she was in The Big Country. as the film progressed I found myself thinking what is Flood's weakness or achilles heel if he has one. a former good lawman gone bad or was he starting to go bad when he initially was hired by the townspeople to clean up jericho?

and how did he become acquanted with so many killers in the first place having once been a competent lawman?

but the big question is how do dolan and hickman go about taking on flood who has a band of killers to back him up not to mention flood **** trouble in the bud by hanging whomever he pleases.

that's when the film gets fun. dolan, hickman, jace and company shrewdly and systematically attack flood's holdings, north, south, east and west.
that's how to do it. one thing that the film coulda used. jean simmons rushing upstairs after that blonde saloon bimbo tries to warn flood he's riding into a trap. she shoulda de-haired the blonde by pulling every strand of hair out by the roots. let her try and impress mr. flood with a bald head.

after the cat and mouse climax a dying flood with a knife in his chest courtesy of the heroic dolan simply advises him to never settle for less than 51%.

flood's humor is lacking even as he croaks. one must agree that it was crap like this that helped to kill westerns.

  6. starring ronald reagan and virginia mayo. reagan is frame johnson a tough fast gun lawman who has a reputation for town taming. after taming his latest town he is looking forward to ranching and marrying the saloon hall owner virginia mayo. she looks like a hot floozy but has a heart of gold for the lawman. so he heads off to cottonwood to start his ranch for her along with brothers lute and younger reckless kid brother jimmy played by the professor russell johnson. as soon as he gets to cottonwood the town judge and locals want him to sign on as marshal to clean up their town but he says no because he's gonna settle down with virginia mayo who remains in the other town until frame sends for her.

in cottonwood frame meets a former nemesis named durling who looks like john carradine the tinhorn gambler from stagecoach and his rotten sons. also on hand is the town's fat crooked sheriff who does nothing but hang around main street showing how rotten he is. in the saloon for some reason is one of durling's sons who looks like Don Gordon and who while loaded has the pastime of using the assistant bartender young johnny benton for target practice. just let benton stop dodging and hiding behind others long enough for young durling to get a bead on him. this of course means nothing to the other saloon patrons.

meanwhile disappointed that older brother frame has turned town the marshallin' offer younger brother lute takes the job. so the town good for nuthins have a ball reporting phony horse stealing incidents to run lute ragged and make a fool outta him. next we hear that young practice target johnny benton has shot and killed the young durling who was harassing him for so long. he is scared and hiding in the town alleys. later lute finds him hung from a tree outside town.

lute goes in the saloon to have a beer and the durlings get the drop on him and poor lute is mortally wounded and he is carried upstairs. frame and younger brother jimmy come to his deathbed and after a few words lute promptly expires.

young jimmy asks frame wants he gonna do about the death of brother lute to which frame pathetically replies 'there's nothing to do, jimmy". frame then takes the marshallin' job like he shoulda done 25 minutes before in this picture.

so here's frame wondering how the town's fat crooked former sheriff who frame doan mind at all wearing a badge throughout this entire picture knowing how young johnny benton was hung from an oak tree when frame never identified the species of tree to anyone on main street. right there and then frame shoulda took out this fat skunk but he don't.

meanwhile earlier young reckless brother jimmy has struck up a romance with the pretty daughter of frame's nemesis durling. frame's old sidekick devon or dallas or something who had accompanied them to cottonwood whacks jimmy on the head with a whisky bottle and puts him in a cell to keep him outta trouble.

so from his cell jimmy gets devon's gun away from him and puts him in the cell and rides out to the durling ranch to meet his sweetheart. the rest of the durlings show up and jimmy shoots and kills frank durling. now in any other western an outlaw family would mete out their own brand of justice but the elder durling decides to let it fall into enemy frame's law-abiding hands thinking to get jimmy hung.

so frame promises to bring in younger brother jimmy so out he rides. meanwhile saloon virginia has shown up to marry frame. so while frame is gone the crooked fat former sheriff whoops up the townsfolk to the notion that frame will not bring in his own brother to hang

soon they're breaking a window and grabbing guns egged on by this former 'lawman'.

meanwhile young jimmy has ridden out into the desert with just a good bottle of whisky which he soon drains and chucks on the desert floor with frame close behind him. he reaches the base of some mountainous mesa valley rock formation and starts climbing. frame gets there soon after and starts climbing up after him. soon they face each other with jimmy threatening to shoot him. he approaches jimmy telling him that he will never draw his gun on a brother.

off goes jimmy's gun and frame is incapacitated with a wound to his left shoulder. jimmy rushes to frame telling him that he never meant to do it.

while the mob grows in the cottonwood main street in rides the wounded frame and jimmy.

jimmy goes to the jail while frame tells the fat crooked sheriff there's no point in him sticking around this town so the skunk agrees to get on his horse and mosey on out.

frame lets him ride out knowing that the fat skunk and disgrace of a peace officer participated in the hanging of young poor johnny benton.

somewhat atypical for even a mediocre western. that blows this western real good and it is a shame. reagan's best 2 films are king's row and knute rockne - all american but dammit reagan is very good here but the film's plot twists are stupid.
