jack Nicholson was perfect for the role being from new jersey.
it was right down his alley. when you are casting a smartass look to nyc and jersey.

Two of my favorites have not been mentioned-
The Boys In The Band-excellent film version of the Mart Crowley play, directed by William Friedkin. The entire original Broadway cast recreate their roles. This is a hilarious and sometimes brutally honest look at gay life in the late 60s, early 70s. The dialogue is some of the best I have heard in a play or movie.
The Mind Of Mr Soames-Terence Stamp is a 30 year old man who has been in a coma since birth, Robert Vaughn is the surgeon who awakens him. A great look at parenting, Vaughn tries a more compassionate way while fellow doctor Nigel Davenport believes in a cold clinical approach.
Terence stamp invents the pitchfork swing.

I never thought much of Nancy Barrett on the show. Pretty, but not much else. Hated her stiff flip hairdo...I did like her in the Quentin storyline.

stillA want to be movie star - Pernell Roberts. He was talked into signing a six year contract to do Bonanza. He was promised good stories, poignant stories, but he felt that the writing didn't live up to what he'd been promised. His main beef was that the idea of three grown men still living with their father and obeying him, was ludicrous. So he begged to be let out of his contract. NBC said no way, Jose. So Pernell rebelled by not reading scripts, being disagreeable on the set - there one one instance where he was supposed to grow a beard and shaved before filming. In the last couple years of his contract, his **** poor attitude can be noticed. One episode has the four Cartwrights on trial to be hanged. At the trial Adam is slumped down in a chair, seemingly not caring that his life is at stake, sleepily drawing his hat over his face. I'm on the fence with this guy because I generally adore the character, but if I had been Lorne Greene, I would have kicked his **** out on the back lot. The other actors were not happy with Pernell, obviously.
screw Roberts. he argued that three grown men would not still be calling their father 'pa'.
I can see grown men who love their father still doing that.
isn't that what chuck Connors called burl ives in the big country?

much better than the 1962 film. Scorsese has never gotten the credit he deserves for this superior remake.

just what the heck is a 20th century vole?

I'n unfamiliar with these new fangled technologies so I just download it and burn it to disc and watch it on my little portable DVD player.

-
RANDOLPH SCOTT when I read what a greedy moneybags he was. he didn't like publicity and felt people should pay the price of a movie ticket to see him...
but dammit his was a tall western persona.
when I sit through one of his westerns I can't help but like him.

I don't plan to watch TCM today.
Don't even plan to watch M*A*S*H's "Goodbye, Farewell and Amen" tonight on MeTV. But you can.
me neither as I thought it sucked from the first. the fire down the road I found interesting but the entire show bleeped itself with klinger remaining in korea. that was a major suck decision.
of course it was sucked from the start with this overly melodramatic HS with hawkeye's mental breakdown which was a distraction from the rest of the show and alan arbus surely wasn't complaining but that sheet with klinger staying in korea blows the whole show.

yeah, you're right, she is pretty.

of course no longer being able to watch tcm I wouldn't be able to see it anyway.
