  1. imo the origin of egg sucking emasculating cgi animation. that sickening touchy-feely fuzzy-wuzzy crap I always felt did start with sesame street.

just ask yourselves where the inspiration for today's Hollywood cgi came from. some of us were raised on better stuff...

The benefits of keeping TCM going, as-is, definitely outweigh the losses.  Anyone who can't see that is probably also too stupid to breathe.

I guess I'm too stupid to breathe...

all they're doing is beating the same movies into the ground over and over and over again quite unceasingly.

we could all stand to lose that.

    :)

I just got through watching Saturday night movies and segued into the noir alley  from Ben Mankiewicz to Eddie Muller's great intro portion. While I have watched Ben grow into the job I can see he still depends on prompters for some things, not a bad thing. But when his research ,or the researchers he may depend on, get things wrong i feel i must say something. no big deal really, and i usually let little things go. However this mistake was about Neville Brand being  the 4th most highly decorated soldier in WW2. It was confirmed by none other than himself in a rare interview and further supplemented by reports from the military records themselves. As a live , working actor, such puff pieces are just about expected. no big deal as ive already said. But the fact that he was the oft cited 2nd, 4th and other non first, most decorated soldier has now been in public domain as incorrect for 20-25yrs already and should not be further propagated to the newer generations of movie buffs. I enjoy Ben's great anecdotes but the story about Neville Brand is not correct. He was certainly a decorated soldier, having won the silver star for gallantry purple heart and battle ribbons with stars, campaign ribbons and more. I am no military buff or expert but do know about some of the things and since Mr Brand decided to set the record straight I think it is up to us to maintain that approach. A small point but significant and should have been picked up had the researcher read past the first line of any bio on Neville Brand. showed a sloppy , less than professional undertaking. embarrassing, if it isnt then shame on them.

Ugh this is really hard to decide because there are so many good male actors and it's hard to rank them.  I'm going to do two lists - one of older movie stars and one of more current day:

    Older:

Top star of all time  John Wayne

    1. Monty Clift

    2. John Barrymore

    3. Laurence Olivier

    4. Spencer Tracy

    5. Yul Brynner

    6. Marlon Brando

    7. Jack Lemmon

    8. Peter O'Toole

    9. Lionel Barrymore

    10. Robert Mitchum

     More Current:

    1. Anthony Hopkins

    2. Morgan Freeman

    3. Daniel Day Lewis

    4. Kenneth Branaugh

    5.  Ralph Fiennes

    6.  Denzel Washington

    7.  Colin Firth

    8. Brad Pitt

    9. Ryan Gosling

    10. Adrien Brody

It's really hard to come up with the top ten for the older stars because there are just so many I like.

there. I fixed it for you, monty.

  7. and what does diversity in it of itself have to do with alleviating the conditions of poverty anyway? these rich phonies continue to have the gall to act like the awarding of these statuettes and the glory and fame attached to all this meaningless glitz has something to do with improving people's lives?

the whole thing is a party for rich Hollywood celebs who somehow imagine that their wealth makes them great humanitarians.

and they are wrong! the rest of America can still think well outside and far away from their narcissistic veil.

    :D
