I would say that ED WOOD was his absolute best performance though. He absolutely captures the gleeful idiocy and boundless effrontery of the subject. Edit- “Effrontery” is in the wrong word. What’s the word for someone who’s too stupid to know that they shouldn’t be doing some thing because it’s way, way, way beyond their abilities but they march onward anyway?

Dan Curtis’s daughters have been trying to get a reboot off the ground for years, they came very close a little while back, but it was announced their plans have been scrapped. I actually lived in Hollywood when the dark shadows pilot came out, and heard extremely bad things about it. It actually killed the career of the actress (MARLEY SHELTON) they got to play Victoria winters. The pilot has actually been made available on YouTube, but it is *extremely* bad looking, I’m not sure if they shot it that way or if that’s just how the video uploaded. I genuinely kind of sort of think the Tim Burton film killed the chance for SHADOWS to return in a serious way. (For the record “Sweeney Todd” is one of the very very very very few films made in the 21st-century that I have seen and very much enjoyed.)

Do you know it’s funny, now that I’ve seen so many episodes of the series, I have a different view of HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS...I wouldn’t say I like it less (and I do like it!), I just view it differently. ps- One of the WORST things a poster can do on this board, in my opinion, Is to get mad at someone for liking a film they disliked, or disliking a film they liked. It’s (more or less) a free country, and I admire anyone who is willing to go against the grain and voice their mind...That said, is there any chance you were on Hallucinogenics, mushrooms or cocaine when you went to go see the 2012 film? That’s about the only way I can (personally) imagine enjoying it. but no, it’s fine. No eggs thrown here. (I’m saving them for Tim Burton in case we ever cross paths!)

I haven’t seen any character smoking, and frankly I’m surprised. Maybe there was a rule during daytime television that they couldn’t smoke or something, but I’m on episode 1000 and I’ve been watching since episode 700, and there’s been not one cigarette seen. There’s also the fact that I can only imagine how incredibly flammable the soundstage was, with all the Plywood and unfinished lumber and draperies, it was probably for the best seeing as how they nearly burned it down once through special effects, that no one smoked on camera.

On a more positive note though, I am into the 1970 alternate timeline story, and I have to say as someone who’s never been a huge fan of the original REBECCA, The additions of an evil twin sister, a time traveling vampire, and a tacked-on “Jekyll and Hyde” subplot is really exactly what it needed. She had an absolutely fascinating discussion with Evelyn Keyes yesterday!

NEVER EVER Underestimate the power of higher ups to completely screw up something in ways that you didn’t even think were possible.

It is very worth noting that the “watch TCM” app does not work unless you have a cable provider, so if they’re planning to expand that service they better take into consideration how many of us have cut the cord.

God, with our luck they’re probably rehiring Vasquez. And making it 310 days of Oscar instead of 31

Unless they’re finally kicking ManksieBooBoo to the curb (fifteen years too late) it ain’t gonna be good.

now that I've broached the sensitive subject of the piece of **** 2012 film, i will take the time to say that I have been avoiding talking about it for a variety of reasons, one of which is that I just cannot rein in THE INTENSITY of MY HATRED for it....which has grown tenfold now that I have seen so much of the original series. I swear, if they had erased all the master tapes, summarily executed the surviving castmembers on camera and personally burned down SEAVIEW TERRACE and LYNDHURST mansions they could not have DESECRATED the original property MORE ...and it's hard to believe it was not done maliciously BECAUSE, OBVIOUSLY THE DS FANDOM ARE A SPECIAL BUNCH!!!! the original castmembers are given a three second cameo as party guests and the camera passes right over them, which is insulting. CHRISTOPHER LEE, who has NOTHING TO DO with the original DARK SHADOWS, is given a 3 minute long cameo with a monologue, why was this role not given to JOHNATHON FRID? the character of CAROLYN has not only been made about 15 (so that she could play the typical ANGRY TIM BURTON TEENAGE GIRL) she is DREADFUL, not only is the actress playing her lousy, but the character herself is just HATEFUL with no redeeming qualities. The character of ROGER has no reason to even BE in the movie, there is no redemption arc and in fact- HE TAKES A CAB AND EXITS THE FILM about an hour into it. the line "ok, I'm a werewolf, let's not make a big deal about it" is actually at the top of my list for FILM LINES OF DIALOGUE EVER EVER EVER. the complete misunderstanding of the BARNABAS/JULIA relationship (replete with aN ORAL SEX scene) the performance and styling of HELENA BONHAM CARTER, also she is a loathsome character, and WHY DOES SHE EVEN LIVE THERE?????????? Angelique's PARTY CITY wig.... I COULD KEEP GOING HERE, BUT I WON'T.

DISHY!!!!!! (tHANKS) THE MORE i read about the making of DARK SHADOWS and the cultural impact it had during such a turbulent time in our history, the more intrigued I am about the possibilities of a movie about the making of the show itself, framed within scenes throughout of people across America riveted every day at four- and central to that story would be the relationship between SAM AND GRAYSON. there would also be tons of potential for comedy...unlike the unfortunate 2012 "film."

Later on, in the last year of the show, believe it or not, he actually humanized. I was taken aback by an episode yesterday where he was being very sweet and affectionate to Carolyn and then mentioned how much he loved David. I thought for a minute or two that had been body snatched, but later in the episode it was mentioned because of his experiences with Laura and having recently been bitten by Megan, he’s more understanding of the supernatural and the threats his family faces. He’s also joined Julia and Barnabas in an alliance against the leviathans.
