i've also noticed the strange billing given to the B-players in the schedule, cannot imagine how that happened. honestly though, there are SO MANY bugs in the schedule this site provides, films are often mislabeled (a lot of films are considered to be "HORROR" when they are so not); lots of times the wrong synopsis is provided, sometimes the synopsis for the film ends halfway through and is replaced by the synopsis for another film, VERY OFTEN the links to the DVDs of the film are TOTALLY WRONG (usually a similar title, but miles off in all other respects) and finally I've noticed the Maltin reviews are often wrong(er than they already are)- not matching the film for which they are meant to be accompanying, and very often NOT INCLUDED, (often the case when they're showing a really bad film that likely got a terrible review.) it's weirdness all around. That said, today and tonight's schedules are pretty damned good- the Gish films followed by a Tierney double feature followed by- OMG- BOB'S PICK OF A CLOCKWORK ORANGE!!!!!!!!!!

underneath it all, it is a genuine shame, because he gave some wonderful, iconic performances in his career (Cousin Eddie is one for the ages.) And who knows? He still might. (keeps fingers crossed.)

To me the real bad acting honors in THE BRAIN THAT.... go to the doctor's choice for Jan's new body: the dark-haired pin-up with the scarred face and (pretty well-founded as it turns out) distrust of men. That is some good bad acting.

I do feel compelled to give a shout out to the 2003(?) RECKLESS MOMENT remake called THE DEEP END. A very very very rare example of a contemporary movie that redid a classic and the results are every bit as good, but it is made all the more interesting by putting a contemporary twist on things.

I can no think of no other member who has done more to alert us when bad movies were coming on. And it is much appreciated.

This is off of the top of my head, but no. As I recall, MR BLANDINGS was made in 1948, SPAM came along during the onset of food rationing at WWII (as if enough dark and terrible things weren't already happening in the world.) ps- seriously here: Fanta was invented by the Nazis.

I dunno, but I would like to see NANA too; I would imagine GOLDWYN's films are attainable by TCM as THE BISHOP'S WIFE (a Goldwyn movie) aired just last night. I also think THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES is a Goldwyn film (and we all know how often that one airs!) WB, RKO and MGM films are all clearly accessable to TCM, lots of British films are clearly acescsable to TCM, Fox and Universal- two studios who did not have much of a relationship at all with TCM just a few years ago- have had a lot of their films show up on the network in the past four years (and it has been wonderful, just a desperately needed infusion of new blood into the schedule.) But PARAMOUNT really seems to be the lone holdout when it comes to dealing with TCM, I don't know why (I could understand if they had their own outlet for airing their movies, like FMC, but they don't.)

to me, both CLUELESS and FAST TIMES... are okay, **1/2 on a scale of one to four stars; all right but they both could be a lot better. They both suffered from an unbelievable amount of over-hype- CLUELESS came out when I was in High School and I still remember reading left and right what "genius" it was, only to find that it (IMO) was a very underdeveloped story with some iffy acting and some questionable attitudes towards gays and drugs, as well as indulging in the "ha ha, girls are so silly" tropes that I don't think we needed then or now. FAST TIMES is also not so much a real film as it is a strung together series of vignettes- again with some notable homophobia thrown in (it was the eighties, after all)- I don't find it to be a particularly expertly pieced together work and- like CLUELESS- it doesn't seem to have anything deeper to say or suggest or imply about the goings on, just "here they are, and here's our movie." Great soundtrack though.

A whole night of just Arzner's films would've been completely merited- DANCE GIRL, DANCE is fine, but to me the real great film she made that shows her unique perspective as a woman filmmaker is CHRISTOPHER STRONG (1933) I've never seen THE WILD PARTY and would love to, but I think that's a PARAMOUNT film and Paramount is probably the least cooperative of all the classic studios when it comes to allowing TCM to air their films. it's highly possible THE WILD PARTY was the film they wanted to show but couldn't get the rights to it (or maybe it has not been digitized or is in need of some repair.)
