at least it's not another of TCM's semi annual extravaganza d'butt-kissings of Clint Eastwood, but count me in as being less than thrilled with tonight's programming too.

from what little I've heard about Clara Bow, yes.

They say, Ruby you're like a dream Not always what you seem And though my heart may break when I awake Let it be so, I only know Ruby, it's you They say, Ruby you're like a song You just don't know right from wrong And in your eyes I see heartaches for me Right from the start, who stole my heart? Ruby, it's you I hear your voice and I must come to you I have no choice, so what else can I do? They say, Ruby you're like a flame Into my life you came And though I should beware, still I just don't care You thrill me so, I only know Ruby, it's you. Theme song from Ruby Gentry, 1952

There's a naturalistic nature to Cooper's acting, so I give him a pass (although I understand why some don't care for him, and I have seen a couple of awful performances from him early in his career.) But when it comes to Eldred, you and me are simpatico.

Tor's Top.Ten Titles Searched Today
LornaHansonForbes replied to Arturo's topic in General Discussions
You know, I was perusing through my battered, worn and beaten copy of INSIDE OSCAR yesterday and came across an amusing anecdote about Tor from the evening he won Best Supporting AcTOR for PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE at the 1960 ceremony. The shindig at Chasen's was winding down ca. 4:00 am and people were waiting for their cars out front, when a sloppy drunk Shelley Winters- still brandishing her ANNE FRANK statuette in one hand and a bottle of Rye in the other- was stumbling out and screaming "ViTORio! ViTORio!"- looking for her wayward husband-d'jour (who, for the record, was giving a little lesson in Italian to a starlet over at the Beverly Hills Hotel.) Well, Tor thought she was congratualting him in Italian, so he went over to give her a little (or, I guess as was the case with TOR, big) hug, and Shelley takes one look at him, screams bloody murder, and piles into a limo with a very confused Jennifer Jones and David O. Selznick, ordering the driver to hightail it out of there. What a night! -
DETECTIVE BROWN: Sister, I've known some pretty hard cases in my time; you make 'em all look like putty. You're not talking about a sack of gumdrops that's gonna be smashed - you're talking about a dame's life! You may think it's a funny idea for a woman with a kid to stop a bullet for you, only I'm not laughing! MRS. NEAL Where do you get off, being so superior? Why shouldn't I take advantage of her? - I want to live! If you had to step on someone to get something you wanted real bad, would you think twice about it? I don't care whether you dreamed up this gag or not; you're going right along with it, so don't go soft on me. And once you handed out a line about poor Forbes getting killed, 'cause it was his duty. Well, it's your duty too! Even if this dame gets murdered. DETECTIVE BROWN: You make me sick to my stomach. MRS. NEAL Well, use your own sink. And let me know when the target practice starts!

Well, to be fair, I think there's probably at least a little Mercury or Rat Poison or industrial cleaning agent in everything we eat, so I call that remark fair game. "Be grateful for the rat poison, kid! OTHERwise you'd be BARFIN' yer brains OUT from the E COLI ! MAYbe INSTEAD OF THE ICE CREAM you should switch to JELL-0. There's no RAT POISON in JELL-O! Just FRUIT and HOOVES!!...a rizza razza, ruzzah."

Timothy Carey is also in EAST OF EDEN as the bouncer for Jo Van Fleet's whorehouse. He got into a fight on set with Kazan. He is also in PATHS OF GLORY as a crybaby soldier in a divisive performance, he got into a fight on set with Kubrick. I think he also made an appearance on THE MUNSTERS. No word on whether he and Fred Gwynne got into it, but if they did I bet it was really something to see. He is perfect in CRIME WAVE, which I guess I missed this g-round, but I saw it a while back on TCM and it is terrific ) edit- he is also in BAYOU aka POOR WHITE TRASH, which I sadly missed in its recent airing on TCM.

Yes, please.

"Leona, LEONA!!! I want you to do something. I want you to get yourself out of the bed, and get over to the window and SCREAM as LOUD as you can. Otherwise you only have another three minutes to live!"

"Operator, I've been ringing Murray Hill 35097 for the last half hour and the line is always busy. Will you ring it for me, please?"

"In the tangled networks of a great city, the telephone is the unseen link between a million lives... it is the servant of our common needs ~~ the confidante of our inmost secrets... life and happiness wait upon its ring ... and horror... and loneliness... and... death!"

Have any of you ever heard Jack Elam sing? It's a revelation.

1. YES! Clifford Odets- who wrote CBN- was the worst. There are very few classic movies that I hate and nearly all of them were written by Odets. Not only Can Stanwyck and Monroe not save it; neither can Robert Ryan nor the smoking hot Keith Andes- who is gorgeous and interesting in his part...he never made it big and later killed himself. 2. Several posts below this, please check out my review of EASY LIVING, I watched it yesterday. Kinky movie.

THE STRANGE LOVE OF MARTHA IVERS
LornaHansonForbes replied to HoldenIsHere's topic in General Discussions
- I was afraid. For the first time in my life, I was afraid. I felt you'd no longer stand by me. That you'd leave me. -No, Martha, I won't leave you. I love you. Don't cry, Martha. It's not your fault. - It isn't, is it, Walter? - No, nor mine. Nor my father's, nor your aunt's. It's not anyone's fault. It's just the way things are. It's what people want and how hard they want it. And how hard it is for them to get it.
