  1. I’m pretty sure it is, But they were all such good actors and the make-up was so good I can’t be 100% sure.
  2. so, um, in reference to the above video, can any of you THEATRE AFICIANADOS tell me anything about MICHAEL CERVERIS, the bald gentlemen in the above clip, who apparently played SWEENEY TODD in an early 2000s revival that sort of went for a weird 1920s German Expressionist kinda look? I'm not saying that the reason I'm asking is because DAMN HE IS FINE AS HELL, but I'm not not saying that either....
  3. “Oh he’s a confirmed woman hater?OH! sign me up, I must have some of that!!!” (drops panties to floor)
  4. One of my FAVORITE old movie terms for “lifelong bachelor” is “confirmed woman-hater,” Which I know is used in LOVER COME BACK (and I seem to recall hearing it in a few other pictures.) I don’t know if you can string any other three words together to get a term more fraught with subtext and sociological meanings.
  5. I will tack on that, child of a lawyer that I am, I think that not only should MGM have sued the makers of SHE-FREAK out of the rights of the film, but they should've teamed up with PEPSICO to file a joint copyright infringement claim. That way the two could coproduce a re-edited rerelease of the film with added scenes of a bejewelled, bouffanted, and slightly soused JOAN CRAWFORD as a CRISWELL-LIKE NARRATOR, who is never seen without, you guessed it, a BOTTLE of PEPSI at her side (and a fifth of Cuttysark in her clutch.)
  6. I actually watched the trailer for MEET THE RICARDOS and it looks like it is ABSOLUTELY NO FUN WHATSOEVER AT ALL. *NOTE: I hate Aaron Sorkin and I am not afraid to admit that.
  7. I'm not sure if MGM had also entered their MASSIVE LIQUIDATION PHASE- the auction of land and costumes and props- so it's possible they were consumed with that at the time. (Really though, on PURE principle, the makers of SHE-FREAK deserved to be sued.)
  8. It is because we are A BUNCH OF FREAKS WITH NO LIVES!!! (edit- speaking mostly for myself and one or two others who would gladly admit to it.)
  9. I'm genuinely a little surprised that MGM didn't sue the makers of SHE-FREAK into oblivion...maybe they had other things going on at the time? Or they'd let the copyright on FREAKS expire? Or maybe they just figured the filmmakers were already pretty much perched at the cusp of oblivion, and tipping them off the ledge, as it were, presented very little challenge.
  10. (BTW, This is just about the only place in the world where people would understand the above reference and that’s why I love it)
  11. Also when it comes to “gifted British actors who were outright whores for money”, Donald Pleasence makes Michael Caine look like Robert Donat.
  12. Yes, THE MUTATIONS aka DAS FREAKMÄCHER was practically BRIEF ENCOUNTER when compared to SHE FREAK (At least a lot of things happened in it.) …Although both movies had scenes that shamelessly ripped off the 1933 FREAKS.
  13. I APOLOGIZE IF ANYONE ELSE POSTED THIS AND I MISSED IT
  14. SPOILER IN RE: SHE-FREAK 1967 (although you're better off knowing it before hand) This film is an artless remake of FREAKS without any nuance or style or passion for the subject matter; building up to the reveal of the WICKED CARNIVAL SCHEMER getting her comeuppance, but whereas in the 1932 film, we can TOTALLY BELIEVE that THE FREAKS did that to OLGA BAKLANOVA, I watched this and all I could think was "Girl, just scrape that papier mache off and take those "Bugles" out from under your lip." ps- do they still make "Bugles"? those things were good.
  15. yes she was, and it is VERY SIMILAR to this film in a lot of ways...although BERSERK! has, I think, just one or two PEPSI PLACEMENTS. There were about 10 or more instances in SHE-FREAK where you could see PEPSI SIGNS, PEPSI MACHINES and/or characters drank a PEPSI from cups labeled with PEPSI. My only complaint really is that I've always thought of CARNIVAL PEOPLE as being more into MOUNTAIN DEW (which is also a PEPSICO product!)
  16. As a sort of a documentary look at what it was like to run a traveling carnival in the late 60s, SHE FREAK is alright…But if someone doesn’t get “she freaked”soon, my patience is going to run out. edit: MY GOD, was JOAN CRAWFORD a producer on this? Every other scene features someone drinking a Pepsi.
  17. I met her (in a record store!) right after LA CONFIDENTIAL came out and I told her she was going to win the Oscar for LA CONFIDENTIAL and that I was really proud of her and always knew she could do it. (and she was REALLY NICE. )
  18. ALSO, not meaning to start a fight, but HULU had- for some reason I cannot imagine- STOPPED ALLOWING THE OPTION TO FAST FORWARD THROUGH THE INTRODUCTIONS OF A CERTAIN TCM HOST. claiming they were "advertisements" that could not be Fast Forwarded through. More than once I just went and found something else to watch.
  19. I apologize in advance for some of the technical jargon to follow, it is not a specialty of mine. A few years ago, I got a ROKU TV and started watching TV DIGITALLY via HULU, which up until a few months ago had been great... and then they did a redesign where they buried my favorites, never saved things I wasn't finished watching but wanted to finish watching while it and saved things I didn't finish watching and didn't want to finish, made terrible recommendations (HULU simply cannot wrap their mind around the fact that I have NO INTEREST in SPORTS) and, worst of all, THE TCM CHANNEL ON HULU started having a lot of films expire fast or not show up on the service AND THEN for the past few weeks, a glitch in the system makes you return to the ROKU HOME MENU every time you try to access ALL THE MOVIES on TCM... edit: god i hate myself for trying to explain all this technology so i finally sat down and worked it out (i had tried numerous times over the years and failed) and this time it worked, I successfully downloaded the WATCH TCM APP onto my ROKU and have been using it for a couple of weeks now and I have to say... I quite like the set-up. I like that you can see all the movies on TCM from old to new or new to old. I like that the recently added titles are right at the front of the line. I like the option for WEST COAST or EAST COAST FEED (a lot actually.) I think the site design is a little cheap and kinda looks like an illegal file-sharing service buried on reddit [a lot of odd thumbnails] , but you know what?, I don't mind. There also, surprisingly, is NO CHARTREUSE. So, for any of you who have HULU and are having problems accessing TCM, THEY'VE finally made it possible to get it if you don't have a "proper cable provider."
