yeah, i was struck by how veryvery little TAB HUNTER is in POLYESTER, I don't think he even has any lines until an hour into it. (he didn't have many lines in LUST IN THE DUST, but he had more presence.) POLYESTER can't quite decide what it really wants to be about, (Aaaalfie)....but for some reason this go-round I was especially tickled by THE BALTIMORE FOOT STOMPER SCENES.

WHAT is GOING ON with TCM UNDERGROUND?!

...now, if they had rewritten the part of DIVINE'S RIVAL/SISTER (played so irritatingly by LAINIE KAZAN) as more of a MERCEDES MACAMBRIDGE-TYPE and cast MARY WURONOVin the part, then that might have made ONE HELL of a movie.... -
WHAT is GOING ON with TCM UNDERGROUND?!

I ENDED UP finishing it this morning because I wanted something on while I drank my coffee. It wasn't worth finishing...which is a shame, because DIVINE was a legit great actor. There were moments in LUST IN THE DUST that kinda suggested JOHNNY GUITAR, and I like that movie, but this was flat... and TAB HUNTER was dull and GEOFFREY LEWIS creeps me out. -
also, I wonder if GLENN CLOSE gets ABSOLUTELY WASTED some nights and BELTS THE ABOVE SONG OUT to no one in particular...

I dig LIZA'S ROMULAN LOOK in the above number.

WHAT is GOING ON with TCM UNDERGROUND?!

PAUL BARTEL directed it and you would probably recognize him if you saw him, he’s a pretty likable actor who’s been in quite a few things. As a Director though, he makes dull movies, which is surprising because they often have rather prurient subject matter. His most famous film is probably “eating Raoul,” which (in spite of having a couple of absolutely hilarious moments) is mostly pretty boring. -

ACTUALLY.... the only part of SLEEPAWAY CAMP that I enjoy is when one kid tells another (after being told to “eat sh!t and die”) to “Eat sh!t and live” which I love and use daily. -

DIVINE was excellent in LUST IN THE DUST, but I just can't stand LAINIE KAZAN (she reminds me of LINDA LAVIN) and I got tired of fast-forwarding through her parts and gave up. -
I also was able to check out POLYESTER (1981) on TCM UNDERgROUND.... It is rather appropriate this this film begins with a long aerial shot of several suburban ****-de-sac as the credits unfold, because the movie is rife with themes and plot points that takes us for a ride around, but never really deliver us nowhere...still watchable though. I had forgotten how little TAB HUNTER is in this. I tried to find a youtube video of MICHAEL KAMEN performing LU LU'S THEME from this movie, but I could only locate the title song song by TAB HUNTER.

I Spent Friday night in a hotel and, for some reason, caught ALTERED STATES (1979?) on some incarnation of HBO (which I don't get at home) just as it was starting. "Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue..." About 40 minutes into it- when WILLIAM HURT goes to see THE SHAMANS in the MOUNTAINS, I realized that this film was going to require more commitment from me the viewer than i could muster (it was the evening of Thanksgiving and I was tired) so i went to sleep...but i would like to finish it someday if i gets the chance. but in spite of the awkward dialogue- which the actors handled well- and the fact that KEN RUSSELL was "the 27th choice" to direct, what I watched was mostly pretty compelling due in very large part to the actors managing some OFF THE WALL exchanges quite well. I don't like WILLIAM HURT, but I do respect the talent. also, in the 1980's I recall his being referred to as a "himbo" which I did not get at the time, but now that I have seen BROADCAST NEWS and BODY HEAT and some of this, I 100% see where people were coming from. I wouldn't mind finishing this if I ever get the chance, BLAIR BROWN (later on THE DAYS AND NIGHTS OF MOLLY DODD) costars and she has a lot of topless scenes and her breasts are magnificent. (Judge me for saying it, but they are.) That KEN RUSSELL was a MACADAMIA, man.

(She doesn’t start singing the song until about two or three minutes into the video, but the whole thing is really wonderful to watch)

This may not be the time or the place to say this, but he doesn’t have a chin. .mind you that I’m not saying anything about his character or his abilities as an actor or his skills as a songwriter, I’m just saying LIN MANUEL MIRANDA has not a hint of a chin. Been meaning to say something about it for years.

As did I! (surprising myself quite a bit.) Had to look away during all the throat slitting montages though.

I’m posting using my phone, apologies for errors I am kind of surprised that no one has mentioned that TCM recently ran (THE) SUPER COPS (1974) starring RON LEIBMAN and QUENTIN COLLINS himself DAVID SELBY, only two years off DARK SHADOWS. I’ve watched most of it, it’s kind of rambling, but it’s watchable and not entirely unfunny although for some reason Ron Liebman is the one who gives the broadest most charismatic performance and Selby is so restrained as to be almost forgettable. It’s not unamusing as a relic of its kind though. Also Ron Leibman is kind of like Groucho Marx’s “Buddy Love” if Groucho had done THE NUTTY PROFESSOR

I have not, but I am tempted.

everything about those two is PERFECTION, like, as great as DIVINE AND TAB HUNTER are, I kinda wish the movie had been about HER WANDERING HUSBAND and MINK. THEY STEAL THE FILM. -

AND I NOTE THAT POLYESTER CONTAINS ONE OF THE FUNNIEST IMAGES KNOWN TO MAN, WHICH IS MINK STOLE IN CORNROWS The sight of which LITERALLY TICKLES ME, like I giggle and titter and snort uncontrollably through every minute she is onscreen and for quite some time after. I laughed thinking of it this morning. I laugh now as I write this. I would PAY to watch MINK STOLE IN CORNROWS READ ALOUD FROM THE SANTA MONICA PHONEBOOK. I would risk my life to catch MINK STOLE IN CORNROWS AS "JANE EYRE" on THE BIG SCREEN, and not just because of Covid, but also because I might literally laugh myself into a stroke or hysterics.
