  1. @chaya:  DICK YORK had all kinds of problems related to his back injury; think he was hooked on painkillers and had to leave the show for health reasons.  I believe he collapsed on-set one day and that was the end of his tenure on "Bewitched".  I don't think he would've left voluntarily, but he was in bad shape by 1969.

ALSO:  I concur that DAVID OGDEN STIERS replacing LARRY LINVILLE on M*A*S*H was no loss of quality.  I remember reading that Larry Linville knew his M*A*S*H character had reached its endpoint . . . and so he left.

→ Remember back in 1981 when Marla Gibbs was tried out for a 'spin-off' show of "The Jeffersons" called CHECKING IN.  There was one of those obvious set-up episodes of "The Jeffersons" to introduce 'Florence' to her new job at a hotel.  (I forgot exactly what Florence's new job was supposed to be; I think she was supposed to be a manager of some kind).  Anyway, on this 'Jeffersons/New Pilot/Set-Up' episode Larry Linville shows up playing the same kind of snarky Frank Burns-ish character he played in M*A*S*H.  And Nedra Volz showed up, too, as a hotel maid.  CHECKING IN did not last long, though, and Marla Gibbs returned to "The Jeffersons" saying her job -- and the hotel itself -- had burned to the ground.  Like McLean Stevenson, Larry Linville never appeared in another hit show after he left M*A*S*H.

Speaking of changes, I recall being displeased when Clive Anderson was replaced by Drew Carey on WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY?  Carey was awful.  The host cannot be part of the antics.  He has to be "the straight man" like Clive Anderson was.  But, no, Carey wanted to be part of the comic antics too and it made the show considerably less enjoyable for me.  Ugh!

  2. I'm surprised Alicia hasn't gone off on actor J. CARROL NAISH -- who seemed to play every kind of race and/or nationality known to Man.  Bad CARROL!  He's so insensitive for playing people other than himself!

→ I shudder to think of what "Mighty Alicia" might do if J. CARROL was still alive at age 124!  Alicia would no doubt be hot on his trail at the nursing home!  She'd be out for BLOOD! 🩸 Ready to rebuke a helpless J. CARROL in front of the entire nursing staff for being an un-righteous scumbag!

"This is a bad man you have here" she'd say "and I'm going to bring an altar into the Pixie Dust Rest Home so Mr. Naish can REPENT REPENT REPENT!  In fact, I, The Mighty Alicia, will not SLEEP until Carrol is WOKE!"

And if WARNER OLAND were still alive at age 141 (which, let's face it, that's pushin' it -- as J. CARROL is barely hanging on at 124 . . . ) I know in my Heart of Hearts, Liver of Livers and Kidney of Kidneys that Mighty Alicia would be after his A-S-S !  She'd have to give Warner a proper lecture even if she had to hold his eyelids open with /toothpicks/!  She'd teach that evil so-and-so Warner Oland what a rotter he was for playing Asian characters!  From 'The Mysterious Orient' was he?  No, he was from Sweden!   GAWD ALMIGHTY!  HELL HATH NO FURY LIKE 'ANGRY ALICIA'!  😤😡😠🤬

  3. As far as the movies I've seen the most times it's mixed bag of flicks.

EVILSPEAK (1981-Horror) Seen it 77 or 78 times.  I used to keep a running count.  If only it could be re-configured slightly with a few more modern SFX.

SECRET OF NIMH, The (1982-Animated)  I've seen it 60 times.  When I was younger (much younger!) I'd watch "The Secret of NIMH" every time I noticed it would air -- which was frequently in the mid-1980s.

GAS (1981-Canadian)  A comedy about a phony gas shortage that leaves most viewers repelled!  But it makes me laugh so darn much I've seen it at least 25 times.

SCAVENGER HUNT (1979-Comedy)  At least 20 times.

BULLITT (1968) and IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT (1967)  Also about 20 times each.

SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT (1977)  20 times.

THE POSSESSION OF VIRGINIA (1972-French Canadian/Horror)  15 times.

BREAKHEART PASS (1976-Western)  13-15 times or so.

    CAREY TREATMENT, The (1972)  12 times . . . or maybe it's 13.

(ALSO NOTE I've only seen "The Bonfire of the Vanities" once.  Alreet then . . . ).

  4. I noticed earlier there was a Ray Stevens song from CANNONBALL RUN mentioned; I remember that song very well and liked it from the movie.  I also liked the Lou Rawls song . . . except I can't remember the name of it offhand.  Might be called LOVE IS ON THE RADIO; whatever it's called I liked it a lot along with the Stevens song.

I admit I don't know how to do 'links' to YouTube but the instrumental theme song from the 1980 Neil Simon comedy SEEMS LIKE OLD TIMES by Marvin Hamlisch I can listen to over and over again.  It's only a little over 2 minutes.  I don't think there's actually a title for that piece of music; it's just the "SEEMS LIKE OLD TIMES Theme".  → If I could have found that recording on a 45' rpm record I'd have bought it.

Then there's a song by the late VALERIE CARTER sung over the opening of the 1975 trucking movie WHITE LINE FEVER.  It's called "Drifting and Dreaming" and does not appear to have been released as a 'single' or I'd have bought that, too.  But it's mighty (((catchy)))!  :)

(Lou Rawls also sings on the soundtracks to WELCOME TO ARROW BEACH (1974) (song title:  "Who Can Tell Us Why") and THE SPECIALIST (1975)).

ALSO:  I dig the theme song by "The Jeff Alan Band" for the 1983 movie LOSIN' IT.   Highly recommended listening.

So are some songs from the 1982 comedy "ZAPPED!".   I bought 2 copies of the LP soundtrack from "Zapped!" on Regency Records.  The prom song "King and Queen of Hearts" caught my ear way back when I first saw it in the movie.  Remembered it for years after.  I like the other songs, too, but that one was the 'motivator' for me to seek out the soundtrack for "Zapped!".

  5. I like the ending of THE TEACHER (1974).  The cheesy, lounge-music score (((pulses))) at the very end during the climactic confrontation scene between Angel Tompkins and Anthony James . . . then the end credits roll in silence.

Also stars Jay ("Dennis the Menace") North, Med Flory, Marlene Schmidt and Barry Atwater.   (There's also cameo appearances by the mothers of John Cassavetes and Gena Rowlands!).
