  1. I remember FORT APACHE, THE BRONX.  One of those downbeat-style cop movies that shows various parts of NYC as a wasteland of abandoned buildings, dirty surroundings and crime.  I've got an aging Vestron Video of this movie.   (And whatever happened to actor Ken Wahl?  He just disappeared off the scene about 25 years ago.  I think he's still alive . . . but I've not checked his Wikipedia page lately!).

  2. I've seen a few Burton movies that are from his later years.

WILD GEESE, The (1978-UK) is pretty good.  Stewart Granger is a double-crossing muthafocka in this action pic!

ABSOLUTION (1978-UK) was a decent movie.  LIES!  Filthy stinking LIES!

I've already mentioned THE MEDUSA TOUCH (1978-UK) but I'll mention it again:  Don't pysse (sic) off a telekinetic Burton!  You'll Pay!

HAMMERSMITH IS OUT (1972) is worth watching once, I think, just to check it out.  Burton is a crazy mental patient in this one.  With Miss Liz, Beau Bridges and Peter Ustinov.

CIRCLE OF TWO (1980-Canadian) is ok.  Considering the plot of the movie it could a very exploitive film, but it's not.  You see Tatum topless for a couple of seconds and then Burton insists she get dressed.   That's it for 'exploitation elements'.  There's 2 versions of this movie; each version has different footage not seen in the other; one version is not simply a 'cut' version of the other.  The music score is different, too, plus the ending is different in both.

BRIEF ENCOUNTER (1974-UK Tvm).  I've yet to read a positive review of this Sophia Loren/Richard Burton remake of the '45 film, but it's the only movie I can think of where the word "furtive" is used!  So that's gotta count for something, right?  Heck, even the U.S. Magnetic Video Corporation VHS release makes use of the word "furtive" on its plot summary.  Sophia Loren says later in the movie how her relationship has grown "dirty" and "furtive"!   😲  (Say it ain't so . . . but 'tis).

→ So remember everyone:  Don't let the word 'F-U-R-T-I-V-E' end up in the scrap heap of history!  Use it in a sentence today!  You'll be glad you did!  🤪

  3. I think with a couple of those bits where McQueen burst into laughter it was because he couldn't believe he was able to get away with engineering the whole bank robbery and aftermath for kicks without getting caught.  So he'd think about it sometimes and laugh that he succeeded.  That's my take on at least a couple of those short scenes where he laughs out loud.  → He's a-thinkin' and then he's a-chucklin'!  😄

  4. @Sepiatone:   I have several hundred VHS tapes that are 40+ years old that still play well.  The keys to keeping old tapes around is storing them properly.  Mould growing inside the tape shell is a bigger problem than the mylar being rendered unplayable simply due to old age.  I keep small buckets of Damp-Rid around my tapes and keep the air flowing with a ceiling fan.  A nice dry place and a moderate temperature does well for storing aging videocassettes.  Many of which I cannot replace.

  5. Just like if TCM were to air SUPERMAN (1978) on a 'Marlon Brando' SUTS Day.

I remember reading a Richard Burton quote from somewhere . . . wish I could remember where, but it went something like this:

"I've done some of the most awful rubbish in order to have someplace to go in the morning".

I've always enjoyed the 1978 suspense movie THE MEDUSA TOUCH.  It's a lot of fun with Burton having telekinesis and going off the deep end.  To kill!

  6. If you watch any and/or all of the uploads you'll no doubt note the small 'faces' on the woods the players were using at the time.  It took a sufficient amount of skill to hit those woods 'between the screws' as small as the faces were.  And those putters!  You get a number of close-ups of the various old-time putters the players in contention were wielding.

When Phil won the PGA he used a blade putter.

TRIVIA ♦NUGGET♦:   When 'The Masters' uploaded all those final round broadcasts on March 14, 2018 I couldn't help but wonder if BOBBY MITCHELL knew about it and was able to watch it.  Even tho the '72 broadcast had only 55 minutes left when the upload starts the first player you see is Bobby Mitchell hitting his 2nd shot into the 18th.  Mitchell died six days later on March 20, 2018.  He was 75.  Jim Jamieson also gets some air time on the shortened '72 broadcast.  And he passed on in December of 2018, also at 75.  Both of these guys were only in their late 20s when the 1972 Masters was played.  A reminder of just how quickly time passes.

  7. In 1991 before TCM existed there was this Turner Classic Host named 'TOBY DICKMAN' and I couldn't see anything good in that arseclown until I bought a magnifying glass and noticed a doctor had removed a tumor the size of a watermelon from his left nostril.  🍉  After that he was ok in my book!  👍.  I stopped wanting to raid the neighbor's garbage cans and throw junk on the street and acted like a cilivized (sic) hooman bein'!  😇

(P.S.  I once knew a guy named 'Redd Herring'; he got pickled and drowned in a vat of brine on his 109th birthday.  'Twas sad).

    'nuff said.

  8. I take it then, laffite, that you were not able to do the "suspend your disbelief" thing in regards to Hollow Triumph.

I think for each movie fan who watches a lot of films there are those certain movies we watch and say "I'm just not buyin' it!" when it comes to a particular scene or plot point.

  9. JACKIE GLEASON (1916-87) was known to imbibe several spirited beverages at one time during a sitting.

VICTOR BUONO (1938-82) never married in response to query above.

Next:  Actor or actress who seriously sabotaged their career with bad movie choices (i.e.  either turning down good roles -OR- taking too many roles in bad movies).  No one makes perfect choices in terms of what roles to take or pass up -- I'm referring to someone who REALLY screwed themselves over.
