Stick with THE DEADLY BEES (1967-UK), Citizen Ed. It may be cheesy, but it's a lot more fun than the awful-ness that is "The Swarm". Did you know there is a 156-minute version of "The Swarm" that fleshes out various plot points that -- sometimes obviously -- were chop/ped from the 116-minute theatrical print? I don't know if TCM has ever shown the 156-minute version. (I don't think they have).
I also believe the badness that is "The Swarm" and "Beyond the Poseidon Adventure" is the reason James Goldstone directed "When Time Ran Out . . . " instead of Irwin Allen. I don't think Warner would have OK'ed "WHEN TIME RAN OUT . . . " with Allen as director.
PIRANHA is fun even if "The Swarm" isn't.

@Lorna: If you wanna be 'gobsmacked' go to YouTube and watch a few minutes of the 1981 Canadian comedy 'GAS'. → POPEYE ain't got nuthin' on "Gas". You can be mesmerized by the two Italian pet morticians along with Dan Aykroyd's brother, Peter, playing a sister-fixated lunkhead who's into karate + Susan Anspach as an eager reporter who can't drive and her Asian cameraman who says "My life is your hands, White Goddess!" and Sterling Hayden as greedy oil baron "Duke Stuyvesant" who starts a phony gas shortage. It's never been released on DVD; only VHS. Apparently PARAMOUNT PICTURES wasn't interested in forking out the $dosh$ for music rights for a digital release of "Gas".
But somebody uploaded GAS to YouTube so everyone could enjoy it. It's overstuffed with every stereotype the filmmakers could throw in + it's very noisy with car chases and vehicular destruction galore. I've seen it 25 times. It IS a bad movie, but it makes me laugh every time I see it. The scene where 'Uncle Leo' the Godfather-- who's traveling around in his big Cadillac with dead fishes in it -- runs across some Hare Krishnas was a nice touch, I thought.

I like THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN (1976), btw. I'm pretty sure the makers of FRIDAY THE 13th, Part 2 (1981) saw it.
Dick O'Neill was always a dependable presence. Remember him as 'Corell' from THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE (1974)? Or WOLFEN (1981)?
(SPOILER: In "Wolfen" he gets his ripped off and it lands near his body so he can see himself dead. Gregory Hines makes reference to such a thing happening earlier in the movie when he's talking about people who were guillotened).
Charles Durning was also a reliable presence in movies for decades. He and Dick O'Neill co-starred in THE FRONT PAGE (1974), btw.

I caught some of BONFIRE OF THE VANITIES the other day. The last 3/5's of it. Forgot it was on and when I flipped the dial to TCM there it was. It may have been intended as satire at the time of its release but it seems more 'true-to-life' now than satirical.

I think she should be offered a part in the new movie about demon-possessed chickens. She could play the wife of the chicken farmer who's worried that the barnyard fowl are beginning to act . . . peculiar!

The main problem with "The Swarm" from my observation is that the big name cast is directed to be as wooden as possible and show as little emotion as they can.
→ The 156-minute version of THE SWARM was made available on LaserDisc, DVD and Blu-Ray for your viewing dis-pleasure. 😜 I believe the 156-minute version was the version Irwin Allen intended to release before Warner Bros. cut it down by 40 minutes.
