Bogie, on your 29 list, I haven't seen THE VIRGINIAN, DIARY OF A LOST GIRL, THE IRON MASK, or THE GODLESS GIRL.
On your other list, I haven't seen NAPOLEON, MOTHER, or THE SECOND HUNDRED YEARS.

There is no rule! I was trying to explain that my 1929 list contains BOTH sound and silent films, and that while my Pre-1929 list contains all silents, if yours does not, that is not a problem. I even had a silent film in my very first thread post for 1930.
Again, I wasn't laying down a rule, just an explanation.
Argh.

I'll be posting my lists sometime around 1 P.M. EST, but before I do, some explanation.
I'm posting my Top Ten 1929 list, followed immediately by my Top Twenty List from Pre-1929. Some of my 1929 films may be silent, but not all. And since the other, larger list encompasses all years before 1929, if someone has a sound film from that era they wish to list, there is no objection.

I began the list of favorite movies of: Sound Era to Present and saw how daunting it would be. I choose to do: Silents list first because I knew I might possibly finish it. I am sorry that I was so happy that it came together well that I did not think of order in which you wished the lists presented.
I can delete it and repost tomorrow if you wish.
No no no! I didn't mean that. I only meant that I was going to post my Silent list tomorrow, so it hadn't been posted yet, and while I was commenting on your silent choices, you hadn't seen mine yet to comment (or not comment) back.
I had a difficult but fun time narrowing down my own list, more so than I expected, and it fired up my excitement to discuss them.

SansFin, I love the lists. We'll be posting our picks for the silent era tomorrow, so I compiled my top 20 list yesterday, and it was really tough to narrow it down that far. I found I had to leave off many comedies I would recommend, as well as some Soviet films I liked, such as STRIKE, AELITA and THE END OF ST. PETERSBURG. I still have a couple of Soviet films on my list, though.
I also enjoyed I WAS BORN, BUT... and PASSING FANCY.
Two more you mention that almost made my list are LES VAMPIRES and THE PHANTOM CARRIAGE.
