SansFin, I really liked Jewel Staite, too. Enough to watch SG:ATLANTIS as well!
As for FIREFLY, that came out at a time when it's network, Fox, was notorious for canceling a show very quickly, and for no discernible reason. They claimed the ratings weren't enough to justify the budget, but you just stated how good they were, so...who knows? Animosity towards Whedon from Fox executives? The show may have been greenlit by a previous corporate regime, and the new bosses weren't keen on the show.

I missed that Othello, heard it was great! I saw the National's Othello with Adrian Lester, which was pretty good, though I am in the minority in thinking that Rory Kinnear (who played Iago) is an overrated actor.
Btw, I was having a discussion about Othellos with an actress recently. She was dissing Olivier's Othello. She said she fully expected him to shout, suddenly, "Howdy Andy!"
I didn't see the Olivier film of OTHELLO until years later, so I felt the same apprehension at the blackface aspect, which I'm fully aware was the norm. I'm in the minority, I think, in liking Fishburne in the 90's film.
Wasn't there another version in the past decade that got a lot of talk on the British stage? Maybe with Eamonn Walker? Or am I just recalling the Lester or Ejiofor versions?

Larry, I disliked your top choice for 2005 so much that I vowed never to watch another comic book movie.
Glad to be consistent. Maybe I can pick everyone's most disliked films for the remaining decade!

SansFin, very well put about SERENITY. You are a much better salesperson than me. I would also mention a very good performance from Chiwetel Ejiofor as the antagonist.
I also really liked V FOR VENDETTA. They had a lot of guts releasing an anti-government film with a terrorist hero in 2005. This would have been my #6 runner-up.

SERENITY was the movie follow-up to the short-lived cult tv show FIREFLY. When I saw SERENITY for the first time, I had never seen an episode of the show, so watching the show is in no way a prerequisite.
I haven't seen BALLET RUSSES, THE DEATH OF MR. LAZARESCU, or MARCH OF THE PENGUINS. I have a copy of WORLD'S FASTEST INDIAN to watch.

6:30 P.M. EST - Miracles for Sale (1939) - I'll be taping this final Tod Browning film. I'm not expecting much, going by it's reputation, but we shall see.
2:00 A.M. EST - Our Man in Havana (1960) - I've never seen this Alec Guinness film, directed by Carol Reed. I'll be taping that as well.

kingrat, I liked NAPOLEON DYNAMITE. It would have been on a longer list of runner-ups for me. Same with HAROLD & KUMAR.
GOSH!
