I still have yet to see DECONSTRUCTING HARRY.
Deconstructing Harry, while easily recognizable as an Allen film, is quite different in sentiment than most of his. It's very mean, nasty, but yet still funny. Arguably the most misanthropic character he's played.

kingrat, I was unaware of either of your French titles. They both sound interesting. I never did see The Spitfire Grill, but I have heard it praised in the past. I enjoyed all of your other choices, as well.
I hope film lover will rejoin us at some point. They still haven't posted '95 or '96.

That's interesting, TopBilled. South Korea had a major film renaissance from the late 90's thru the 2000's, with a lot of tremendous films and filmmakers coming to the fore. I have a few on upcoming lists, and a South Korean director listed with the 10-best directors of the 00's.
We have a substantial Korean immigrant population here, and so we kept a lot of Korean titles in stock at the store.

I'm surprised to see so many people listing WAITING FOR GUFFMAN. I honestly thought I'd be the only one.
I'm also glad to see I'm not the only one who liked THE ENGLISH PATIENT. As kingrat mentioned, there's been a trend the last several years to belabor the point that the Oscars are wrong a lot. But while he reads about BRAVEHEART being one of the worst, I see THE ENGLISH PATIENT mentioned more than any except for CRASH. Even the year it won, I had plenty, in fact the majority, of customers complain about how much they disliked THE ENGLISH PATIENT. Amongst my friends and family, I was the only one that liked it. Regardless, it's the third in my trilogy of doomed romance favorites.

Speed, glad to see the good review for CREED. I really liked THE WRESTLER, and I'm not a fan of the sport(?), although I used to hear about it all the time from family and coworkers. That's hilarious that you guys watched Royal Rumble from 26 years ago!

I'm not sure if he wants films that contain characters from serials, or if he means the practice of taking serials, editing them down into features, and then re-releasing them with different titles, something that was done often from the 30's thru the 60's. I was citing the latter.

kingrat, it's funny that you say that about BRAVEHEART regularly showing up on worst best picture lists, because I've never read that anywhere, and I read that kind of junk. I know there was backlash at the time of it's release regarding the historical inaccuracies, and some who said the gay prince bit was homophobic. Gibson does have a poor record of cheap gay jokes in his films, but I took the king's treatment of his son as another example of the king's unlikability, not a moral commentary. The only real backlash I've seen toward the film has been since Gibson's various public meltdowns, and the subsequent diminishment of all of his previous works, or what I call the Polanski Effect.
I'm not saying that you should like the movie, obviously. Everyone has their opinion. But I like the film a great deal, and stand by my choice.
BABE is one of the best children's movies ever made. It's a genre I usually can't stomach too much, but BABE was a real exception.
SENSE AND SENSIBILITY was classy and well-acted. The peak of the 90's Jane Austen obsession.
TO WONG FOO looked like a nightmare in the trailers, but ended up much better than expected.
APOLLO 13 is one I was never thrilled by. It was marketed, and even written and filmed, as a nail-biting suspense film. The only problem is I knew exactly how it ends, so there's no suspense. Will they make it? Uh, yeah. Oh no! Something else has gone wrong! Is THIS the end?!? Umm...nope. The acting is fine, but to me unexceptional. And Ed Harris shows up to remind you about THE RIGHT STUFF. I know a lot of people loved the film, but to me it was one of the most overrated of the decade.
But what do I know, I'm just an ugly American.
