It is a shame that 'The Taming Of The Shrew' is not being shown by TCM. Elizabeth Taylor was more (Naturally) beautiful in this movie than any other. Richard Burton was hilarious.
She can beat me up anytime.

Great suggestions.
Be careful about the 'Carry-On' films though. The first few were good. The rest were bloody awful.
Also the 'St. Trinians' films.

Dear Vin
I agree totally.
A couple of years ago TCM had a Japanese fim festival, which was great, but events like this are few and far between.
I also love British movies. TCM shows some, but there is still an untapped goldmine* of superb British movies to be shown.
I don't think British (or Australian, or Canadian) movies are considered 'Foreign' as such. There is no Oscar catagory for 'Best Foreign Film', only 'Best Foreign Language Film'.
I would like to hear your suggestions for 'British', 'Foreign' movies that you would like to see on TCM.

Dear RockyRoad,
You must realise that no-one is universally liked , or is universally agreed with. If you express an opinion, someone will disagree with you and offer a contrary opinion. It's natural. That's what makes life (and the message boards) so diverse and interesting.
There are a few posters on the TCM message boards (we know who you are !), who think their 'Opinions' are the law. This is a 'Classic Movie' website, and any opinions are based on personal preferences and Taste. It would be meaningless and pointless for me to argue that my favorite movie is better than you're favorite movie. That makes me a fool, not an expert.
Downright bad manners and personal insults of course are unacceptable. Such comments say more about the person saying them, than they do about the person they're aimed at.
So get tough, get a sense of humor, and stop worrying. If there are any newcomers out there who wish to express their 'Opinions', go ahead, I'd love to hear (see) them. Will there be people who will disagree with your opinion and shower you with derision , and try to make you look like a dope ?, certainly !. But there are plenty of people here who will treat you with respect (no matter how dopey your opinions sound).
It would be a shame if people refrained from participating because they felt their opinions were not welcome.
And as for our resident 'spell-checker', I've come to rely on him and look forward to his comments.

Dear traceyk65, thanks for the warning about the language, but I read 'A Clockwork Orange' and survived. 'Finnegans Wake' almost had me beat though.
And I'm currently working my way through 'Tristram Shandy', which is actually quite funny.

And now a word from our sponsor......
I can visualise Robert Osborne drinking a can of Pepsi or munching on some Frito's, but what will he do with the Vagisil or Preparation-H ?

I didn't catch the whole movie. I had to leave half way through. It looked very interesting (rather than enjoyable), and a bit racy for afternoon viewing. I can see why it caused a stir in 1960 (probably hit too close to home for some of the reviewers - Okay, so I bought some girly magazines, that doesn't make me a murderer).
While watching it I was reminded of Hitchcock's 'Frenzy' and 'Haskell Wexler's 'Medium Cool' from 1969.
I'll catch it next time.

I'm ashamed to say I never saw the movie 'They Might Be Giants', so I don't know if it was good or bad.
I'll have to check it out though, if only to see Joanne Woodward. I have been suffering from erotic nightmares ever since I saw her in her bathing suit in 'Signpost to Murder'.
But you don't want to hear about my personal problems.

I'm afraid I must object to all these negative references to our Commander-In-Cheif's IQ level.
I know for a fact that he can count to ten. And to twenty if he takes his shoes and socks off. And to twenty-one if he takes his pants off.

Dear Ipcress
I see by the number of posts you have submitted, that you are a newcomer to the TCM message boards. There is one thing you must learn immediately before you have a nervous breakdown.
Without fail, newbies are thrown into confusion over the definition of the word 'Classic' as used on these message boards. This is followed by long frantic posts by the newbie trying to explain to us all the true meaning of the word 'Classic' as they understand it (I did this myself until it finaly sunk in).
Forget it ! ! ! !
'Classic' movies in the context of the TCM message boards simply refers to a time period. i.e. pre 1960's movies. sometimes called the 'Classic age' or 'Golden age'. It has no deeper meaning than that.
Get over it, and get used to it.
By the way I agree with your post, there have been many excellent movies produced after the so-called 'Classic' period (you and I would call them 'Classics').

Wouldn't it be nice if TCM put a photo gallery (a real one. Large format, high quality) on their site. I'm sure they have access to lots of studio publicity stills, movie posters, etc.
I'd also like to thank the anonymous people who do the graphics for TCM. The folks who do the promo's and bumps for TV, and the folks who do the flash and graphics for the web site, they're brilliant. Give them a raise.
