I would say that most of the people on these boards are older than you by a considerable number of years. I'm older than you by a factor of 3.85. People who can still see without glasses, have all their own teeth, and still have hair that isn't the color of wet cement are always welcome. This isn't a retirement home you know. Regards

My local Public Television station has (or had), a weekly show called 'Moonlight Theater', showing mostly old or 'Classic' movies. A few years ago they showed the Hitchcock movie 'Frenzy'. Imagine my surprise (shock), when the rape scene (fairly graphic and very nasty) arrived, and I realised that this was the original 'R' rated, unedited, theatrical version. I nearly choked on my popcorn. I thought that this may be the start of a courageous new trend by PBS to show original, unedited movies. I was wrong, they had simply gotten hold of the wrong version. Regards

I hit the 'O' key twice by accident. 'Disappointing red cleric and sympathetic stripper playing in the sand, are driven to drink by a prize-winning idiot'. Regards

Sorry. I honestly thought it was a reference to Thomas Moore. Regards

I don't think It was as bad as some of you suggest. It has a lot of good points, and I'm not just talking about Janet Leigh's pointy boobs, although they were certainly worth watching. The movie was basically an Orson Welles experiment in 'Style' that did'nt totally pay off. I don't think Welles was entirely satisfied with the result. The dialog was excellent and Welles own performance was wonderfully creepy, and Charlton Heston and Janet leigh were also good. It's true some of the other performances were hammy beyond belief. Dennis Weaver overplayed his role terribly as the motel clerk. Anthony Perkins did it better a year later in 'Psycho'. I wonder if Weaver ever realised what an opportunity he blew with this performance? On the whole I liked it despite it's flaws. Regards

Staying more or less in the same area, here's one to give you all a headache, I hope. 'Disappointing red cleric and sympathetic stripper playing in the sand, are driven to drink by a prize-winning idiot'. Regards

By the way. The only Samuel Bronfman I've heard of is the one who kept America afloat during prohibition. Regards

'The Sand Pebbles' was set in 1926, 'The Last Emperor' covered a period from 1912 to 1925 (I think). The history of China in the first quarter of the 20th century, prior to the communist revolution is a bit dark and murky (to me). Both these movies show aspects of the period but no real historical background. Jeez, now you've started me on another project. Regards

Was it Larry Gates in 'The Sand Pebbles' ? My fave Steeve McQueen movie. Regards

Speaking of latest version 'King Kong'. My neanderthal brother-in-law bought the DVD (formatted full screen of course) and insisted we watch it with him. He said the first hour was boring but the rest was cool. After watching it I held the opposite opinion. The first hour was cool - all those beautifully rendered neo-gothic and deco sets - and the rest of the movie was boring. It was no use explaining, he would'nt have understood. After the movie was over he flipped the channel to the wrestling. One of my visions of Hell is to be trapped on a desert Island with my brother-in-law. I would have to kill him and eat him.

You're welcome BloodyThesis. I did'nt think it was a good movie, but we all have our own likes and dislikes. I originally thought you were refering to 'The Nightcomers' with Marlon Brando. You used the word "Mum", are you a Limey ? Regards -
Speaking of re-makes, I hear that 'The Omen' is to be released in theaters on 6/6/06. Very tacky. I'm surprised that 'Poseidon' was'nt released on the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. Don't worry, these movies are just an illustration of the dark side of democracy and market forces, majority rules. And the majority of the movie going public are _______ , (you can insert your own word here). It makes mr wonder how movies like 'Capote' of 'Million Dollar Baby' ever get financed or made. I get the feeling that Hollywood is run by fifteen year old boys and the special effects companies inc. I saw 'Million Dollar Baby' for the first time the other day on DVD. I cried my eyes out. My popcorn was all soggy. The fact is, I did'nt drag my procrastinating **** to the movie theater and lay down hard cash when it was in the theater (If you're not part of the solution, then you're part of the problem, or something along those lines). My teenage son and his buddies however, always seem to be going to the movies to catch the latest insallment of mind-numbing crap from Hollywood. Hear this ! ! ! - The movie industry is not in the business of making movies, they are in the business of making MONEY. Their only criteria is "Will it make money". Everything else is incidental. I prefer Holiday Inn over Best Western. Most Holiday Inn's have indoor pools. Regards
