Just gonna bump this once in case anyone who wants to know sees it.

I was thinking the same thing. For the last two years he posted a complaint about her films not being shown (basically because her b-day fell on the weekend.) This year she gets a 12 hour salute with a couple of her rarely shown films, and we get nothing from her biggest fan. Maybe he got a warning about starting too many threads about the same thing. Anywho, I'll be watching at least some of them even though I've seen them all.

I didn't mean to insinuate that your posts were hostile, just the wording of your post led me to believe that you believe that being nice is less important than "keeping it real" which is usually code for 'I'm going to say what I like and you're going to take it." Looking for positives in situations may be difficult, but is vastly more important in maintaining a positive, for the lack of a better word, attitude. I'll admit that on occasion I've been less than cordial around these parts; sometimes things just gnaw away at me & I can't hold back from unnecessary sarcasm. But I've gotten a little better at avoiding some subjects here, as my efforts in the past at defending something has been less than fruitful.
Anyway, didn't mean to offend. I would just prefer a more hospitable atmosphere on the message boards. I do get so weary re: the negativity about TCM, the on air/off air employees & business practices. And if I choose to defend them, I just don't want to be called names. That doesn't seem to be too much to ask.

Okay, let's just pretend I didn't mention the "n" word (nice). I guess it's okay to call people nasty names if their perspective doesn't jibe with yours. I guess hostility is THE appropriate reaction to any & all efforts at expressing yourself.

But you're assuming that this hostility that oozes from some posts are all in fun & just a way for people to "let their hair down" when a lot of times posts are made to antagonizes or provoke. Why is it a hardship to be nice & respectful of others opinions.

I guess I'm a little more charitable re Ava Gardner, who I think is the best thing about this movie. While in the original, I can buy Gable as this man to whom both women are attracted, he comes off as old & tired in this. It's sorta creepy really.
You're right--it's not very good, especially compared to Red Dust, IMO.

Her name didn't come up in the q&a so I don't have an answer. If I'm not mistaken, a lot of those talking heads they show between movies were filmed many years ago as an AFI project (or some other organization.) I know TCM shows them but I don't think they funded them. Someone else might know.
As far as the January cruise, the guests are Debbie Reynolds, Mickey Rooney, Norman Lloyd, Arlene Dahl & Sally Ann Howes.
-
The staff does try to get some of those still around, but some just aren't interested in doing private screenings. When there was a Meet the Staff thing on the cruise, that question was asked. Someone wanted to know why Dean Stockwell hadn't been interviewed & they said they had tried but he refused--curmudgeon is the word that was used (and said James Garner was the same but he did relent & has done one.)
-
I think most movie fans over 30 probably know who Bacall-she still works occasionally (she famously dissed Nicole Kidman after appearing in a film with her) and received an honorary Oscar in 2009.
-
I can't confirm or deny since I don't work there but it seems that once before when a lot of silent shorts were featured one month (I want to say maybe DW Griffith or Hal Roach) that one intro for every few that was shown. Intro--4 or 5 shorts--then out remarks.

Thanks for the clarification. I was trying to explain that he was back at work two months before we actual saw him, but that it's been about a year since he took off. And, as usual, I failed to make myself clear.
-
It's been almost a year since he took off. He went back to work in early October taping the Essentials because Barrymore was only available for a brief time. So he was off for about two months.
Just trying to set the record staight.

Aw kitties. That's so cute.

I just looked in my Now Playing & it was not listed for Sunday.
ETA: It was listed for last night (Monday) but was replaced--there may have been a problem with rights or getting a broadcast ready copy. I don't really know. It was replaced by the Finnish film Shadows in Paradise.

I watched a couple of Caan's films that day and had no problem with it.
Heck they've had honorees that were properly "classic" stars that got worse badmouthing. For example, last year with Peter Lawford, or the year Richard Dix was honored.
August is over. Let's move on to September.
-
He also has another job in addition to hosting TCM & he's 80 years old. I don't understand why it's appropriate to know everything about his life. The point I'm trying to make is that he's allowed time off without having to explain to those who only know him from TV.
-
From what I've read she had quite a collection of art & antiques, and if her relatives want to sell them, why not?
-
He seemed like such a nice & fun loving man. He was a great talk show guest, always had funny stories to tell. I think he had a couple of young children.
-
But I've been attacked worse in PM's than I ever have on the actual boards. In fact, the person is still posting here under their third or fourth name. It got so bad that I had to leave for a few months. There's no reason that needs to happen, and if there's vigilant moderation, then more people would feel comfortable participating.
-
I don't see why we need any further explanation, either. Every person on TV who works as a talk show host or news anchor gets vacation, and we are never told why Scott Pelley or Jay Leno is off--they're simply taking vacation. Same with Robert.
-
I know you're probably right. Isn't it fun getting older?

-
Lynn, was there an official announcement about RO's intention to start taking more vacation? I know he stated that when he had a Q & A on the cruise. I'm not disagreeing with you. It's just I don't remember--my memory isn't what it used to be.
-
I just wish you would be more proactive in shutting threads that are deliberately provocative, and I don't mean something like "I don't care for(insert name/film)" but those that add "and if you do you're stupid." We all can't be expected to like the same things; that would be dull. Making negative assumptions about others' taste is bad form

(Really) early suggestions for SUTS 2013?

I didn't notice that A&C had been ignored. I know in the last couple of years I think their films pop up from time to time.
