I have a feeling that you have been contacted by someone at TCM & now you're just jerking everyone around. Not a very nice thing to do, in my opinion.
-
I have to agree, if you're referring to Born to be Bad. That was a role Constance Bennett would have done well, though.
-
The 5th BP nom was Picnic that year.
-
You are becoming quite redundant. Why, if these explanations are unsatisfactory, continuing to waste time reiterating your stance when you could be working on your letter to TCM? Or are you going to continue ignoring my suggestion?
-
There was a guy who used to hang around here many years ago that would get upset about spoilers when we would discuss some film TCM had shown. I never understood that since a) the movie had just been shown or
a well known classic. I mean who doesn't know that Ilsa leaves with Victor in Casablanca, even if by some chance they haven't seen the film. Don't click on the link especially if there's a chance some plot points may be discussed. -
Sorry for the typos, let me try again. Darn tablet.
Send a registered letter to them requiring a signature & I'll bet you will get a reply.

I've beenreading this thread & it seems to me all questions you have have been answered, but none of us work there & the mod probably doesn't have the answers either. I suggest you write & old fashioned letter, send it registered with a required signatured, and you will probably get a response.

TCMfan just posted a couple of times yesterday. You give this so called clique too much power. I find that people who don't like TCM or just like to act provocatively by stirring the pot only stay around until people get bored with the "debates."

Hoosier205
You forgot sycophants. That's my favorite epithet.
Lol

> {quote:title=Hoosier205 wrote:}{quote}The ability to contact them via this webite is extremely limited. Most attemts will simply be ignored. There system is setup to allow for that. You get the same thing if you call them...an answering service basically. If you think that the "Contact Us" fuction of this website is adequate...you must be on the payroll.
No, I'm not on the payroll. I'm a retiree who lives in Alabama. Why not send a registered letter which requires a signature for delivery? Or would you rather be hostile to everyone who is responding? How can you expect anyone to take you seriously?
-
I wouldn't cal it insane but it's certainly a silly thing to get upset about (spoilers that is.)
But no panties? No, ewwww.
-
Why do you say that you can't get in touch with TCM? There's a contact us link at the bottom of this page & if you're so inclined you can send them snail mail at Techwood Drive in ATL. I know someone who had a complaint in a podcast about one of the film prints & was invited for a tour of their studios. I had a complaint about the film lineup on the initial cruise & received a phone call from the cruise organizers & TCM.
Believe it or not, TPTB care about this stuff.
-
Spoilers don't bother me either, and I agree with your assessment of the overblown reactions. But since I've been hanging around message boards about movies for a while I just go with the flow & give warnings just in case of **** knots.
-
Great doc but a word of warning. All 3 films are spoiled, leaving nothing out about the movies. And I know how some people hate that.
-
Sherman Helmsley died today as well.
I didn't see the previous post. I apologize for my redundancy.

Nothing has been announced yet, but maybe after August. Plus she made most of his films at Fox so it may take some time.
I'm not much help.
-
But you're trying to make the Essentials more esoteric than it has to be. I understand that some folks may not like every choice on that showcase or the GP's but these films mean something to the people who choose them.
I have a wide range of films I like but I don't expect everyone to have my same taste in film. I sure would love to have a chance at being a guest programmer, even though my choice would be a film that has been shown a few times and was a selection by one of the GP's.

Since you asked, yes. I don't have a problem with TCM showing films from any decade, but I just don't want to open a can of worms.
-
Considering the 70's ended 32 years ago, I'd say those films made during that decade are "old." However, I don't want to steer this discussion in that direction, just emphasizing the obvious.

TCM has shown the first 2 Godfather movies one time. They were able to get the rights for one showing so they made Robert Duvall one of the Summer under the Stars honorees to have a reason to show them (and I think Doris Day was dropped in order to make this happen.) I've had TCM since the start & The Godfather 1 & 2 are in my top ten film favorites, so I'm sure about this (pretty sure anyway.)

Don't really have anything to say about the Blake/Garfield relationship, but I remember Blake frequently appearing on The Tonight Show. Out of curiosity I checked IMDB to see how many times he was on the show--24 times between 1970 & 1982 (apparently his last time) however he was on 13 times in 72 & 73. That was when he was doing Barretta. Carson either enjoyed his visits or he was the first person they called if anyone bailed. But that does seem like a lot of times, and I do believe he was "impaired" during this time.

audreyforever--you see why there's a parents guide. While I appreciate why you dislike the direction movies take these days, the movie you posted about (and included what appear to be spoilers) is rated R so it's not meant for children. Speaking for myself I don't mind a hard R comedy if it's funny. And I know where that argument will be, but you have to decide for yourself whether you want to watch. I don't think we need codes to tell filmmakers what story they want to tell. I don't think everything should be family friendly.

It's not that some members "don't take kindly" to criticism of TCM--it's just that the complaints are so redundant or that these complaints are posted because someone is bored and decides to act provocatively to generate arguments. Both reasons are becoming tiresome, especially for those of us who have been around here for a while.

Rand Brooks played Hopalong Cassdy's younger sidekick in a few of the later films after Russell Hayden left the series. He was also in at least one Gene Autry movie. Laura Hope Crews was in Camille with Garbo.

An article on Ben Mankiewicz

I went on the cruise & no, Ben wasn't by the pool in a speedo. However, I understand he was in the casino until the wee hours. I just saw him in the evenings mostly. The most bizarre thing he did was host Bingo one morning. While he was doing that, he would ask questions and give out prizes to the person who answered--I won a t-shirt lol. I got a chance to talk to him then and he was extremely nice. I also got a picture with me in the middle between him & Tom Brown, the guy who's in those "around Hollywood" segments. The whole thing was a great experience & I'm going again in January. And I saw only a couple of the many films shown--there was just so much going on it was difficult to choose what events to attend.
