  1. I haven't seen Greed all the way through, but I just read the synopsis of the film. I think it must start in some urban area in California somewhere but ends up in Death Valley. I never really think of it as a western since it takes place in early 1900's California.
  2. You have no idea what you're talking about. Quit posting this crap. This is the 3rd time in a week you've done this. Write the company directly. Your posts here just make you look obsessive & ignorant.
  3. I really don't know much about the man beyond the requisite history of his contributions to the auto industry, but maybe he's just not interesting enough.
  4. Checkpoint Chickie!!! My dad's favorite episode of that show. :^0 Hilarious.
  5. Ben is hardly a boy--he's in his 40's and his dad was in politics, not film. He grew up in the Washington DC area & started his career as a news reporter somewhere in South Carolina.
  6. Don't you know? He's a frigging psychic. Or psycho. Edited by: helenbaby on Aug 3, 2011 5:30 PM
  7. I'm convinced there's a blog or website or something out there in the netverse that is driving all this hateful traffic. Last month it was the Arabs in films, now it's Ben. Don't people have better things to do with their time than try to take down everything & everybody who doesn't quite fit into their world view?
  8. The name of the show & magazine is Now Playing not What's Playing. And some of us like Ben. I can't believe how nasty this whole OP is. And why are you spreading lies about him & his wife?
  9. Honestly, I think that Miss Davis knew what she wanted professionally but had no idea what she wanted in her personal life. She seemed to think she needed all the trappings of a convential family life but it didn't really suit her and she had a hard time accepting that she couldn't be as perfect at that as she was in acting life. She tried but failed, although it seems that her son loved her. I hate that daughter of hers though. What an opportunist and judgmental heifer. She needed to walk a mile in her mother's shoes. ETA: I so identify with Charlotte Vale, although I never turned into a beauty and my mother wasn't that mean. Maybe that's why I love going on cruises so much--hoping to meet my own Jerry. Somehow there are never any good looking continental types on the cruises I've been on. Edited by: helenbaby on Aug 3, 2011 9:28 AM
  10. Watching Stardust right now. She's just the best, isn't she? While I've seen everyone of these films except the early one (which I DVR'd for later viewing) she'll be on my TV all day today.
  11. Jonny does seem to have the proverbial knot in the shorts, no? I blame the failure of his version of At the Movies squarely on the shoulders of his partner, Ben Lyons. Now that's a guy who has no business reviewing films. Love you Ben Mankewicz!!
  12. The Anderson Tapes (1971) is a heist film starring Sean Connery & Dyan Cannon. Has a lot of cool location NYC scenes.
  13. Rowr--Ben looked especially yummy tonight. Can't wait to meet him on the cruise.
  14. It seems like Comcast, which I've have forever, offers more selections when you have more services. I used to have the digital package with the Encore channels but no HD or anything. About a year ago, I upgraded and added all the movie channels (HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Starz) plus HD and it seemed like I was getting a lot more selections under the Free Movies option.
  15. I watched this today On Demand. It was...interesting. It's almost 3 hours and quite avant-garde. It's not at all like the Bud Greenspan films.
  16. He films his weekend intro/outros in Atlanta so I'm assuming he will do this month's intros/outros in Atlanta as well. He was just there recently for the Atlanta Symphony/Casablanca thing and my friend who lives there said he's supposed to be there for a showing of The Mark of Zorro with Douglas Fairbanks sometime soon.
  17. She looked fab in that leopard print jacket she wore one night. I saw her on AMC about 10 years ago when they did a special on Hollywood fashion and I was amazed she still was able to fit into her costumes from The Birds after 40 years. Does she really have a body of films that would warrant a Private Screenings? I'm still holding out hope that Robert will sit down with Dean Stockwell one of these days--now that's a guy who has a body of work.
  18. He'll do a fine job. Brando is one of his favorite actors.
  19. I like Paulette quite a bit--she seems really down to earth. However, I must warn everyone that the movie *Paris Model* is really really bad & not worth her talents. I am looking forward to some of the other films I haven't seen.
  20. It's obvious to me when the OP starts these threads and the sheer volumn of posts he makes, that he's not paying attention to most of the movies TCM shows. It's no wonder he thinks nothing is going on--he's got about 1,000 other things going on at the same time.
  21. July is over and everyone survived. Time for Summer Under the Stars.
  22. > {quote:title=Mythoughts wrote:}{quote}Is he related to Jenna Elfman? Just curious. Well, sort of. She's married to his nephew.
  23. NO, NO, NO!! No panels for this type of programming. It would turn into a free-for-all just like every other political program on TV where everyone talks over everyone else so that it just turn into a cacophony of noise arguing. TCM's presentation may have seen one sided but a panel is not a solution. Damn I'm glad this whole thing is over. And while I enjoy the film *Not Without My Daughter* because it is a compelling story, I'm glad it was not included because the benign comments made by Shaheen on the films that were shown got people riled up enough. I just can't even imagine what he would have said about that movie. I think it was pretty controversial enough when it was released. No need to open old wounds.
