OSCAR TRIVIA>Record holders 4 most consecutive noms.???
brackenhe replied to spencerl964's topic in General Discussions
I'm not cheating as far as I guessed wrong about Greer Garson. But I think Davis' noms were around 38-42. I just looked it up and I was right. Her noms were Jezebel, Dark Victory, The Letter, The Little Foxes and Now Voyager. I'll admit I looked it up because I couldn't remember which year went with which film, but I did know the years. YAY!!! -
Ms. Davis is the greatest actress that ever graced the screen, but she's my favorite so I might be a little biased. But I do enjoy Joan's movies too and any time TCM wants to show either one of them (especially 30's and 40's films) is fine with me.

Well, notanomdeplume, there usually is a theme to the daytime schedule and the night time schedule, although it's not always the same theme for the whole day. It might be a year, a topic, or a star's birthday. During this month, however, the entire month is dedicated to Oscar winners and nominees. If you've just gotten TCM on your cable, then I guess you wouldn't know this and I apologize. Welcome to the boards.

I know I've posted this before but it always cracks me up. In SOTC, the scene where Claudette's Poppaea (or however it's spelled) is taking the bath and the other woman comes in to gossip, she asks her to take off her clothes and join her. Then, DeMille takes the camera shot down the woman's leg and she UNBUCKLES HER HIGH HEELED SANDAL as she starts to undress. Did they have High Heels with BUCKELS in Roman times? LOL LOL LOL

Robert Osbourne's Classic Movie Festival
brackenhe replied to wmcki76058's topic in General Discussions
igt1899--I thought that the host segments were taped in LA until I saw the ad for the guest host segment with Bill Cosby. Then it looked like Robert Osborne was in NYC. I guess that makes sense since Time Warner is in NYC. For a person who writes about the movies, I just assumed he lived in LA. -
I've said this before, maybe even on these boards, but I think Al Pacino in Godfather 1 & 2 is the greatest performances on film ever, in my opinion. I've watched a lot of movies but I think he shows a great range in the role of Michael Corleone.
-
I've been watching a lot of Bond lately since The Encore Channels have been showing them. I think they must belong to a rival company now. I do remember seeing them a lot on TBS about 10 years ago.

I am a "girl" (it's been a long time since my girl-days, but whatever.) I love gangster movies. My favorite movies of all time are Godfather 1 & 2 because they tell the saga of a family, and especially one man (Michael), and how the family's "business" made him into something he never wanted to be. Plus I think Al Pacino gives the greatest performances I've ever seen an actor commit to film. It's funny though--I've never really liked him in anything else so go figure. There were a lot of great ones in the 30's especially starring Cagney & Robinson. There were films where they played both sides of the law with equal intensity. I guess the main reason I like gangster films is because it really gives the stars something to sink their teeth into--where they can really show their "chops" as they say.

The name of the song IS Windmills of Your Mind and is sung by Noel Harrison on the soundtrack. That's Rex Harrison's son.

HELP Where is this "Citizen Kane" "Snowglass?"
brackenhe replied to spencerl964's topic in General Discussions
On the commercial, they show that the snowglobe, etc on the website under shopping but I checked there earlier today and it's just not there. -
There's a book on Amazon.com called "Looking for Gatsby: My Life" that's by Faye Dunaway. So I would guess it's on other book buying websites, too. Hope this helps.

Any Fan Clubs Left For Any Classic Movie Stars?

Boyer's wife died and he was despondent. I think that's how it happened. -
And yes, it was Reed's character Marguerite who climbs up to the top through the smugglers tunnel that she, William and Marianne discussed at the beginning of the movie.

I've had the dreaded Bronchitis a lot. It can kick you in the butt bad. I'm glad you're better. I reiterate evh56 remarks (plus having trouble logging on here.)

And the Sean Connery/James Bond scene is from Dr. No. I just watched it weekend before last.
-
I posted this downthread, and I'll state it again. I think the Joan Crawford hair drying scene is also from Dance Fools Dance. It's a scene right after the whole party on the boat goes swimming in their underwear and then she's in her cabin talking to someone while drying her hair.

I've seen Hurry Sundown and The Happening. I do like Hurry Sundown a lot and The Happening is very camp. Probably a lot of people would say that Hurry Sundown is miscast but I thought it was a good story with a lot of good actors in it.

feaito says "Anything Claudette Colbert was in, was at least worthwhile!!" ITA, she's good in anything and I would like to see some of the movies mentioned here, especially Maid of Salem, even though I know they won't be on during her month.

2 New flix TCM-ITES should go & see!
brackenhe replied to spencerl964's topic in General Discussions
All of us trying to respond to Ariel regarding this subject are wasting our time. She's made over 300 negative posts regarding this movie on another board which is way more hostile than we're used to here. This movie obviously means a lot to her. Not that I'm trying to be a "gatekeeper" but I think (and it's only my opinion) that this topic has run it's course. No one is going to convince the other to accept their point of view, in this instance. -
