  1. I thought this movie was great. I wish and hope TCM shows it again. I noticed Sherman in the credits but I'll admit I had to look up the credits on IMDB to figure out who he was. No wonder those women he said he bedded wanted to bed him. MEOW! He was hot.
  2. I'm on a junk food diet although I'll dabble in the other types every once in a while. I hate to admit this but I sometimes don't see the symbolism of things in movies (although I'm learning thanks to my friends here and reading reviews on IMDB.com.) That's why I'm more of a "tell the me story in the easiest way to digest" type of person. I'm embarrassed to admit this. But we're all friends here, right?
  3. Maybe I'm wrong here but I don't think there was enough publicity about the movie. I didn't even know there was a movie of Phantom of the Opera musical until about 6 weeks ago when I started seeing commercials for the opening of the film. Most of the time if there is a big picture in the works there will be publicity about it for months before it opens. Usually that guarantees at least a big opening at the box office. But since there wasn't a lot of pre opening publicity about this movie, there was not anticipation (and I'm not talking a couple of weeks before it opens---I mean about 6 months of hype.) I think that's why Moulin Rouge and Chicago did so well--plus having better known American stars attached to the projects. ALW should have known better.
  4. Happy New Year Everybody!!! Having trouble posting (as usual.) Anyway, I don't think I watch a movie before No Name on the Bullet came on TCM at 9 am CST. I watched most of it. New Years Eve morning I watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Very strange but intriguing.
  5. Slappy3500--I love you. In GWTW, when she's getting ready for the BBQ at 12 Oaks she leaves with no jewelry on. Then when she's eating at the BBQ she has on a coral necklace and earrings. I noticed that about the 20th time I saw it. I know there's other production inconsistancies but that's one I noticed on my own.
  6. That's a great idea, slappy. I watched the Alistair Sim version on AMC (I know--but that's where it was shown so I suffered through the commercials.) I have to say it was a good one. But I've always resisted the others--I have seen Scrooged with Bill Murray and the Reginald Owen version, but the others were "made for TV" versions and normally shown on commercial television. And I hate commercials when I'm watching a movie. I tend to change the channels and then forget what I'm watching and miss stuff.
  7. If it's the Charles Lane who was in "It's A Wonderful Life" then according to IMDB he's still alive and will be 100 years old in 2005.
  8. Do you really want an answer because I know too and it's a famous movie and character.
  9. Wasn't she blacklisted by the House Un American Activities Committee? I thought that's why she didn't work so much during the 40's and 50's.
  10. ML--we won't throw tomatoes at you. Heck, my favorite version is a darn cartoon. Variety is the spice of life.
  11. Yes, Thanks so much for fixing the boards. Now if I can just post more often my prayers would be answered.
  12. Dog gone it!!! Cartoon Network is showing a cut up version of this. It's supposed to be Mr. Magoo starring in a production of A Christmas Carol on Broadway and they cut out the beginning where he sings a song about Broadway and all the shots of the theater audience. But I guess they need the ad money and since it's not really part of the story they cut it out. You are not seeing a complete version people.
  13. greg--What in the world are you doing watching TCM then? A majority of the films they show are B & W and made in the 40's. Grow up, little boy.
  14. The Last Waltz is going to be on TCM on New Year's Eve along with some other concert films. Scorcese on Scorcese--I had it on last night but I was on line too so I didn't really get what he was saying. I'm sure is was good because he's a great film maker and historian. Looking forward to seeing The Aviator--I might even get out of the house and actually go to a movie theater to see it. LOL I saw a couple of the Hughes films last night--Two Arabian Knights and The Mating Call--and enjoyed both very much. I hope this isn't the last time they're on. I saw part of The Racket and would like to see it in its' entirety--and I would watch The Mating Call again. It's probably one of the best silents I've seen.
  15. Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol will be on The Cartoon Network tonight, Dec 16, @ 8 pm EST 7 pm CST. Enjoy!
  16. Glad to see there are other Mr Magoo fans besides me. My late brother and I just loved this movie (actually it was a TV special) and now I can't watch it without a lot of tears in my eyes. But still a great version---for a cartoon.
  17. Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol is great with beautiful songs.
  18. I don't totally hate Betty Hutton--on the contrary I think she is a very fragile person (kind of like Judy Garland) but she did have talent. I like the Texas Guinan movie too and she's tolerable in Greatest Show on Earth, but Annie---I don't know about that.
  19. I watched this for the first time last week, and then the boards went down so I didn't get to see what everyone thought about it. I must have seen it as a kid (although I remember more distinctly a live TV version with Harve Presnell in the Frank Butler role) but I didn't particularly like it (the movie version.) I know Betty Hutton was known for being over the top, but she was ridiculously OTT in this movie. No wonder she has bad memories of making this film. I can imagine that George Sidney kept saying "More, more" til she couldn't give any more. I was exhausted just watching her shenanigans. What does everyone else think? Me, I'll probably not watch it again, even though there's some good songs in it.
  20. I've been wanting to see Arrowsmith for years. I hope I'm able to rent it from my DVD club.
  21. All I can say is YEAH!!! We're finally back AND I can post. Again, YEAH!!!!!!
  22. I always love to watch Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol with Mr. Magoo as Scrooge. Great Rankin Bass cartoon with great songs. Very Touching. Check it out.
