  1. The Last Waltz is going to be on TCM on New Year's Eve along with some other concert films.

Scorcese on Scorcese--I had it on last night but I was on line too so I didn't really get what he was saying. I'm sure is was good because he's a great film maker and historian. Looking forward to seeing The Aviator--I might even get out of the house and actually go to a movie theater to see it. LOL

I saw a couple of the Hughes films last night--Two Arabian Knights and The Mating Call--and enjoyed both very much. I hope this isn't the last time they're on. I saw part of The Racket and would like to see it in its' entirety--and I would watch The Mating Call again. It's probably one of the best silents I've seen.

  2. I put some thoughts about Annie Get Your Gun on the General Discussions board. I was feeling very sorry for her the first time that I saw the interview. She seemed a little sad and lonely, especially when speaking of her children and grandchildren. But after watching the movie last week, I can see why she thought filming Annie was a bad experience.

  3. I watched this for the first time last week, and then the boards went down so I didn't get to see what everyone thought about it. I must have seen it as a kid (although I remember more distinctly a live TV version with Harve Presnell in the Frank Butler role) but I didn't particularly like it (the movie version.) I know Betty Hutton was known for being over the top, but she was ridiculously OTT in this movie. No wonder she has bad memories of making this film. I can imagine that George Sidney kept saying "More, more" til she couldn't give any more. I was exhausted just watching her shenanigans. What does everyone else think? Me, I'll probably not watch it again, even though there's some good songs in it.

  4. Claudette Colbert is one of the forgotten greats (not by us but by the public in general.) Feaito--it's funny you mention Sign of the Cross because I was discussing this movie with my mom this weekend and was laughing about the fact that she had this elaborate hairstyle and wore HIGH HEELED SANDALS (in old Rome.) I like this movie but that particularly amused me when I saw it this summer

  5. Is this the Out Cold that stars Jason London and Zach Galfinakis? I checked IMDB for viewer input but I guess the Casablanca influence wasn't observed by any of those that reviewed the movie--no one mentioned it. Just read a comment about it on the message board over there that I think is telling--"but at the same time adults wouldn't like this movie cause they wouldn't get it or think it was unneccessary..." Now I'm an adult and have been one for quite a while. I liked quite a few teen comedies when I was well out of my teens. But if someone says this, maybe it's a movie I'd want to stay away from.

BTW, I just rented Mean Girls with Lindsey Lohan and Tina Fey and I really enjoyed it so I'm not entirely against teen comedies--just bad ones.

  6. I went to a my best friend's brother's house for a late afternoon/early evening T-giving dinner. When I got there my friend and her sis-n-law were dying laughing as they stared at the cornbread dressing. It had a big divot in it. I asked what happened--the dog was chasing the cat through the house and the cat jumped into the dressing. We just cut that part out and ate the rest. I thought that was pretty funny.

  7. Ok--I just checked the schedule and there are actually some of these I haven't seen that I have been wanting to see. However, if this is the Oscar lineup, how did the movie Green Card get on there? I kind of liked this movie but I never knew it was nominated for any Oscars. Gerard Depardieu definitely seems out of his element and Andie MacDowell just seems ackward (sp?). There are a lot of the same old movies but I did notice there were a lot of newer nominees and some foreign flicks I haven't seen so I may be tuning in from time to time. So I will eat my previous negative rant.

  8. Haven't looked at the schedule but I imagine it's the same old, same old. Not that I don't appreciate Oscar winning performances, but I wished they'd show some that maybe we haven't seen every Feb/Mar since 1994. Now I'm starting to sound like you know who. But it's gotten to where I don't watch much during the Oscar month because I've seen the movies so many times. I'll be stepping off my soap box now. Sorry to offend the newbies that haven't had TCM as long as I have.

  9. I can't think of Howard Keel without thinking of him singing "Bless Your Beautiful Hide." I know Seven Brides for Seven Brothers has been getting more respect the last few years but I think this is one of the most joyful productions ever on screen--and a little underrated. I just love this musical and everything about it.
