  1. That makes sense, I just haven't seen it for myself. If that were the case, TCM's server might just be redirecting to an unsecured TCM home page, or a general unsecured TCM error page (404 error). In that scenario, the server rules could be modified to take the request (link clicked on), and conditionally return a secure error page for when anyone clicks on a secure link, so as to not not throw a browser error. Or not... FWIW, probably not much.
  2. Could be a redirect to a different website. Not going to where it is supposed to go. Link says it is secure, redirect is insecure. Even if it eventually makes it there. I wouldn't know. Overall it is a good thing that Firefox is halting this. This is a problem with the website. Even if it isn't compromised, it isn't designed using best practices. An example of this happening to me... I sometimes get this is when I take my laptop computer to a cafe with Internet access. If I try to go to a secure webpage that is restricted by the establishment, one that the establishment blacklisted for some unknown reason (due to a misunderstanding), then I would be redirected to a page from the establishment saying "this site is blocked". That message page from the establishment is on an insecure page. So after I clicked on a secure link I was redirected to is an insecure web page, hence the discrepancy and Firefox gives me this "insecure site" message as a result. Lowered security settings on Firefox or another browser might show me the establishment's "blocked access" page instead. So something like that is happening here. Perhaps an intermediate page or site before you finally get to the secure site. Again, either the Shop TCM site is compromised, or else they are not following best practices. Firefox is just doing its job.
  3. Absolutely nothing... I just got a chuckle out of it and thought one or two people here might too. BTW, that clip "is" part of a movie, an obscure documentary on the painter featured in that clip.
  4. Here's an early Vangelis clip I hadn't seen yet. This is before his movie scores. He's essentially doing the same thing he has always done, except with a couple broken old organs and some percussion toys, all of which look and sound like they were pulled out of the bottom of a river. Painter and dancer included, Daddio.
  5. Might be something to look into for the insomniac. P.S. Jeez...they could at least throw in a triplet or other technique at the same beat.
  6. LOL Cheap stuff K-Mart used to sell versus the actual piece of gear used in the recording. (Many 1980s hits, not the Jazzercise record above)
  7. Last night Spectrum preempted the local Fox channel's national football game, due to a contractual dispute. I didn't really care (wouldn't have cared even if I had Spectrum), but I know some others who did.
  8. As per description in Youtube video: "Louis Clark conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (1982)with arranged classical medleys." Wow, that's really terrible. The same exact drum sound and beat for an entire album. I don't know whether it's some kind of badge of honor to remember or not remember that. That was right around the time the LinnDrum was coming out, either too soon or they couldn't afford one. That was really the first drum machine to digitally store and play back actual drum sounds (though at a very low resolution by today's standards - so it still has its own sound). Used on a variety of different recording projects in the 1980s.
  9. This month's updates to my project are posted. premieres: http://www.moviecollectoroh.com/reports/Future_Premieres.htm main page: http://www.moviecollectoroh.com/reports.htm
  10. One that is faithful to an original sounds great, but I presume this would be designed by the Bryan Nesbitt of lamp makers?
  11. Here, this just seems too perfect to me. Somewhere between the Georgio Moroder version and the Kino version is my ideal version of Metropolis. This is the garden scene from Metropolis, with classical music. The edit points were only in the audio, to fit into the time constraints of the video. Music credits go to Dutch keyboardist Ed Starink (aka "Star Inc." - get it?). The first part is Dvorak's New World Symphony 2nd movement (Largo). I won't spoil the second part, Maria's theme. Enjoy. http://moviecollectoroh.com/pics_to_hotlink_on_TCM/moviecollector-1927-metropolis-garden-scene.mp4
  12. I had a lengthy post which included this scenario, then decided I was trying to cover too much ground and some genius here would only quote one sentence to pick apart. Basically it is the companies which have revenue-generating movies out there in circulation which could stand to lose if movies were forced to go PD - as a result of others squatting. Then there are the companies/individuals sitting there doing the squatting, perhaps the results of MBAs in management or shareholders, or to a lesser extent due to rights issues, they wouldn't see any difference either way (as your point makes). So I'm keeping in mind those who are contributing to the classic movie ecosystem, and how to continue to support them, not take something away from them. I do think 95 years is a damn long time though.
  13. LOL Almost no difference between that and a wanna be PR fixer honing said skills in a "perfectly" sandboxed environment (anonymous accounts on message boards).
  14. A professional film critic didn't like a film? That can be a marker of something exceptional. Perhaps the film makers wandered off the reservation in an interesting way.
  15. I meant to mention that I don't take this whole Rock-n-Roll Hall Of Fame awards thing seriously either, The Moody Blues only made it in last year. That basically tells you everything you need to know right there.
  16. They're just not a made-for-MTV type of group. Thankfully.
  17. Their listing of long epics as two consecutive parts is something that goes all the way back to their earliest schedules. My guess is this was/is a work-around for the largest time slots that was never properly fixed, or even if it was, the prior entries not updated? The reverse schedule order could be something new and experimental, I just hope they don't discover non-linear video editing!
  18. My condolences to you. May she rest in peace, and you and yours find comfort at this time.
  19. Below is a link to a clip I just put together. I started with the same clip you posted (the lower one), except I replaced the house music with the theme from Frantic by Ennio Morricone done on synthesizer, for a very different version of this same clip from Metropolis. It's more sublime, as this (IMO) is supposed to be an eerie scene. The audio and video were about the same length, and a couple key parts just seemed to line right up and make sense. See what you think. Moviecollector version of Metropolis dance scene http://moviecollectoroh.com/pics_to_hotlink_on_TCM/moviecollector-1927-metropolis-dance-scene-morricone-frantic-starink-synth.mp4 [This is on my website, not on Youtube. Just click on the link and it should play right away (up-to-date browsers). Otherwise right-click and download first, then play on your computer's media player.]
  20. It's a shame they can't get along, while everyone is still alive and capable.
  21. Wow. Given the overall condition of department stores, hopefully that agency got most of their money up front. That is amazing product though.
