I love the "Beer belongs...enjoy it" quote at the bottom of the page.
Here's my favorite out of that batch, it just didn't seem to have a connection to film or movies. This, like the other, is part of a series of ads by the US Brewer's Foundation which later made it into a commemorative book. I wonder if there was anyone famous among these models.

Just a heads up to any who follow my TCM US schedule reports. I haven't disappeared. It was time to renew so I went with a better domain name:
Be sure to update your bookmarks or favorites with this newer link.

Yeah, it was on my cable schedule too, but I didnt record it. Not enough room and I didnt want to erase anything for this bomb. Anyone watch it?
As long as it doesn't actually say the word "bomb" on it (as with Wile E. Coyote), I think I'll be alright with it.

So did everyone catch it this morning?
It was on too early for me, so I taped it. Can't wait to watch it tonight!
Like Rick Moranis, as Woody Allen, says in the SCTV movie "Play It Again, Bob" - Hope is the king; the destroyer - there's no comeback in the world for Hope.
I've confirmed that it successfully recorded this time. I will be watching it later on too.

Thanks again to alleybj.

I'm sure they don't care what a handful of people think about their programming unless they are Backlot members and pay TCM eighty something bucks a year and shill the overpriced merchandise at the TCM shop.
I'm okay with that, except for those times when I'm not.

At this point nobody knows for sure, but what else is new around here. All I know is I see it in my schedule provider's schedule (similar to what you see on your digital TV/DVR on-screen schedule).
This is corroborated by alleybj's independent finding above.

I'm not seeing it on the online schedule for tomw. What time?
6am EST. Between "Gilda Live" and "A Man For All Seasons". Strange that it isn't appearing on TCM's own listings.

I see it as scheduled for this Friday morning, eastern time.
Hmm, yeah. I'm seeing it via Schedules Direct service, the schedule provider I use for my DVR computer's NextPVR scheduler. I don't remember rescheduling it to record, maybe the recording software did.

Not sure why Grayson and MacDonald are getting disparaged.
If TCM featured Betty Grable as Star of the Month, it would be another tribute including mostly musicals. Why has a bias seemingly developed against musicals?
Not all musicals are created equal. Just fingernails in the chalkboard musicals. Lydecker gets it.

I have nightmares thinking about a Kathryn Grayson/Jeannette MacDonald Film Festival with the two of them warbling away ad nauseum.
I was thinking about saying the same thing.

Thank you, @Sgt_Markoff. I should let you know that it’s almost definitely not an authentic record from the ‘30s, as it appears to be—I’ve talked to several different sources, including several music professors, who told me that for a number or reasons related to the recording, it’s probably contemporaneous with the movie (‘70s), made to sound like a ‘30s recording. (It particularly sounds like Al Bowlly and Frank Luther, but the vocals aren’t actually either man’s.)
Also: I’ve been reluctant to post this because I have no evidence for it, but at IMDb v2.0 we’ve stumbled one the most convincing candidate yet (in my opinion) for the identity of the singer—David Kernan. He worked in theatre on Broadway and the West End as well as in the film business, he’d sung Porter before, he’d previously worked with Michael Caine in Zulu, and the vocals sound remarkably close. I’ve tried to find any contact information for Kernan, to no avail, and every other source to which I’ve reached out (I couldn’t find an agent, but I did find organizations with which he’s affiliated) hasn’t gotten back to me.
Here’s the Sleuth singer again:
And here’s Kernan singing a Porter medley:
I had a chance to listen to this under better conditions - just so much nonsense edited into the soundtrack for the film. Despite singing Cole Porter, I don't think Kernan sounds as close to Al Bowly or the mystery singer in Sleuth as I would like. I forget, have you considered or ruled out Cliff Edwards yet? Here is a clip which sounds to my ears at least as close or closer in vocal technique to the voice in your clip:

I haven't really been following this thread, so maybe this one has already been posted.
1971/72 RecTrans Discoverer - from Slither (1973). At first thought it might be a George Barris build, but then noticed it wasn't.

So I have to know: Do you "time travel" and mash it up a bit by combining movies with intros by hosts no longer there, and movies with intros by the new hosts, all on the same DVD?

As listed on the TCM info page, the theatrical aspect ratio of The Story on Page One is 2.35 to 1, so I guess we can tribute FOX for the 4x3 pan & scan version that was shown on TCM tonight. Very disappointing for a premiere broadcast. I really wish there was some place in the program listings that would reveal the details of the format they are planning to show.
I'm beginning to think they don't even have the opportunity to vet third party assets, as they *may* just be released to air through the various real-time network channels, at time of airing. If that were the case, it would explain things a bit such as unusual aspect ratios, foreign releases, unplayed silents at the last minute due to no musical score, etc.

People rely on some kind of 'guide' to help their TV viewing?

Yes. There are some real luddites here, in addition to some fake ones.

Ha ha ha, that's an interesting and funny interpretation, although I doubt anyone at TCM is actually saying, "Let's make January a little extra special for our viewers, since they're going to have to suffer all February!" I'm reasonably sure they don't see their programming choices the way you do! They actually seem to be pretty fond of 31 Days.
That is why I essentially just use a database and a schedule.

Thanks JeanneCrain for saying something about this, I hadn't gotten around to discovering it missing yet. Oh well, another premiere/rarity goes up in smoke.

My first post on here was to start a thread and ask if Just Imagine (1930) had ever been played on TCM. I was answered by FredCDobbs. Don't remember what other threads I started if anything.
-
There is a greater chance that those who do receive it will continue to contribute to this thread. In other words, there is a greater chance that at least one person who receives it will post it here, instead of everyone receiving it and on time. So as long as this thread continues...

Last night (2018-10-15) TCM aired Robot vs the Aztec Mummy, The (1965). In the intro Ben described it as the dubbed version released by American International. The print shown was the original Spanish language version which was subtitled. Anyone know if this version was a TCM Premiere? No biggie just curious.
Among other versions, IMDB says this:
(original title) La momia azteca contra el robot humano
USA (dubbed version) The Robot vs. the Aztec Mummy
World-wide (English title) The Aztec Mummy Against the Humanoid RobotI see a problem with this already. Full stop.

edit: This won't be much help, but I checked and have the Sep 2015 airing, which was the dubbed version (actual talking, not just schedule title). As per my list, only a few others to rule out: 2009-11, 2010-06, 2016-10-

It looks like they slipped Cat From Outer Space into that block since my last update. In addition to those already on my list in the posts above, I'm going to call that a premiere.
edit: Looks like they inserted it into tonight's schedule (oct 15/16) just on the 11th.

Here's a comment from the TCM message boards in March 2002:
" You made some good points about "sentiment," Ud Pert. I was talking to some young film students last week here in NYC and I was astounded at what they didn't know about movies. They sneered at "old movies" because they were so "corny and gushy and tear-jerking." They hated "Gone With the Wind" although they'd never seen it. They gushed over "Citizen Kane" although they never saw it. They think "Pulp Fiction" is the greatest movie ever made. They had heard vaguely the names of Bette Davis, Claudette Colbert and Clark Gable. They have seen none of their movies. They had never heard of Greta Garbo or great directors like Raoul Walsh and D.W. Griffith. And don't even think of discussing "silent" movies with them. These l2 students all said "Yucck!" God help American movies with these mental retardates waiting to fill the shoes of our present hacks. "
So, if you can believe this poster from nearly 17 years ago, these film students - the successful among them - are making films now, probably around age 40.
P.S. This is one thing message boards have over Facebook, Instagram, etc. - history. You can go back to the year 2001 and see what the people on the TCM message boards were talking about.
Informative find. Yup, that about summarizes it. The poster gets the message out in 2002, to us in 2018, and without mincing words. I think I can deal with that.

Ah! No one has mentioned that, Sgt_Markoff. Thanks, I’ll try there. I’d like to see if someone can verify Kernan; if so, I’ll (at long, LONG last) mark this one a “solved.”
Pending congrats... I know you have been trying to resolve this for a long time.

TCM Premieres
in General Discussions

I just go by the individual listings as they appeared on past schedules. So like some of the cartoons, these may have just been grouped together under a single entry as a "special" in the past.
They have been getting more detailed with their schedules in recent years, which is always a good thing.
