While you're at it, here's something I came across and started to watch a while back. A guy in Hollywood with a Youtube channel named "Daze With Jordan The Lion". Hundreds of videos. In each episode he feeds his dog, thinks up a topic interesting enough to vlog on, and then heads out to document relevant landmarks, remaining structures and markers. I've had fun watching his videos and watching someone else who is fascinated with this kind of stuff. This thing reminds me of a very small-time experimental group I read about, in the early 2000s, that attached a lapel mic to the print head of an old-style dot matrix printer. They "played" it as one of their instruments by sending different repeating patterns of text to the printer. What's up with the tinyurl links. I never saw the purpose in that, other than to obfuscate the domain name of the link until it is visited. Some people swear by it though. You probably have your reasons. I am not a "smartphone" guy though, so maybe that might explain it. As for Firefox about:config options - I have the latest and greatest v.62, where some bulletproofing or other improvements may have been made. dom.webnotifications.enabled I have had this in user-defined state as disabled all along, don't remember doing it, but that hasn't had any effect on the TCM site. Perhaps it only controls the operations as per Firefox menu option: preferences/privacy & security/notifications. Opening the settings for that, it is completely empty (so no permissions for TCM notifications are being granted or revoked here for me). I will say these two items are probably correlated. dom.push.enabled This one has been enabled all along for me, in its default state. It's probably safe to assume this is the control for the type of notifications from TCM at the bottom of the screen. I'm not online constantly and I like those notifications, so I will be leaving it as-is. As for "stepping away from things" a bit, I moved from Windows 7 (a few years ago already??) to Linux Mint for all my online activities. Linux Mint has been every bit as capable for mundane Internet usage and then some, without any further control issues or headaches from Microsoft. Not that I don't still use a Windows computer, but it is now a disconnected Windows 7 "appliance", no network connected, no Wifi, only used for a very specific piece of software - a video processing program. That is a whole other topic though.

I was just going through some of my vintage keyboard stuff last week, and I meant to post this. Not Giorgio Moroder, but so what. This should really be the TCM Underground bumper music.

I did some more digging on this. Giorgio Moroder used a Moog synthesizer in his beginning, but then moved to a Roland System 700 modular, the large black synthesizer you see behind him in the picture of him in the documentary. Also I have seen him in videos talking about the problems they had with the early Moog modular, so it is no wonder they moved on to something else. For his movies in the mid 80s, things got so busy that he hired Arthur Barrow, a keyboardist/bassist from Frank Zappa's band to fill in on the duties. This included studio takes of different versions of certain movie soundtrack songs, and in particular the song Take My Breath Away. Barrow went on to make records with different 80s acts and do various other things - including scoring these silent films: Torrent (1926, starring Greta Garbo) The Boob (1926, starring Joan Crawford) The Cameraman (1928, starring Buster Keaton) Here he is standing around talking with a younger musician about a current project. You can see some kind of modular synthesizer behind him - it appears to be newer. This is from Torrent (1926). Towards the end the bass line sounds fairly interesting to me, and he is first and foremost a bassist. The guy who played synthesizer on Take My Breath Away also did the scoring for The Cameraman, which I think turned out quite good as far as silent film music goes.

Not that uncommon. I'm not sure whether or not this applied with them, but many bands hire staff based on good companionship and interpersonal compatibility, above musicianship or other position. They have to be able to carry out their duties, but in many cases that is not the determining factor. They will have to fit in and get along with the others on the tour bus, be buddies, look out for each other, etc. Often times bands will have members or staff around which are really "not that great" at what they are advertised to do, but are considered absolutely essential for making things go smooth in other ways. Not saying Ringo wasn't a great musician, as there are more extreme examples out there. In any case, this was for the studio track(s) that Paul had in his mind to nail in a specific way, the one performance that would get played over and over and over again? Sure why not.

I didn't see The Frankenstein Myth either. The Strange Life Of Dr Frankenstein at least shows up on TCM's DB. Whatever it is, it says it is from 2018. I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it. 1930s and only 5 ratings on IMDB, I would be all over it.

Did it not flip over to October at the time you posted? As it is now, the 1st falls on a Monday (today), legit for Oct. That part looks okay to me, though I haven't had a chance to look at it further yet myself, so maybe there is more.

I went through this thread, and so far it looks like this has mostly been happening with the MGM animated shorts (as per IMDB). So I went ahead and prefixed the titles of all the previous airings with "MGM Cartoons: " as TCM does - the less I have to pay attention to these shorts, the better. That blanks the IMDB data for those in my listings, but should fix the false premieres for those in the future, a special case just for cartoon shorts. Actually I prefer the cartoon shorts prefixed like that, as it groups them together. If they should open up another group of cartoon shorts they might have shown in the past, then I will just do more of the same.

This pic of Giorgio Moroder below is just one I quickly found on the Internet, but you get the idea. This is him at his recording studio, playing modular synthesizer for the keyboard parts during a tracking session. Quite possibly the same rig you are hearing on the Top Gun soundtrack. Off the top of my head he also did similar work on Flashdance: What A Feeling (Irene Cara), and the 1984 release of the movie Metropolis (Pat Benetar, Freddie Mercury, etc). It sounds to me like the only conventional instrument used here is a gated drum kit (typical for the 80s). So this may have just been Moroder, a drummer, and Terri Nunn. Definitely not all at the same time either. The funny thing about this scenario is that this music was not in Berlin's style. They (Terri Nunn) had to set aside their creative differences for this, but it payed off. With some basic electronics theory and creativity, users could tweak the Moog modular to get exactly the sounds they wanted, or just be surprised. Due to its size and complexity, it was usually just used for the studio recording. The thinking back then was it was the most important performance, the one everyone would hear over and over. So it had to sound interesting. My how times have changed. Ok you know how I am with these things. I should really stop.

I don't know anything about the avatars. As far as Directv goes, if you have a modern Directv Genie receiver, it can either be connected to a home Internet router with the Cat-5 network connector on the back, or the built-in Wifi interface. All you need to do is have the installer connect it or enable it. Our installer didn't, but I actually wouldn't have used it anyhow. It uses the Internet connection for watching stuff that can be found online (streaming), for "rewinding" certain shows on certain networks after you tune into them (a limited scope type of streaming), and also for ordering from the video-on-demand channels. The one-way satellite service (without Internet connection) delivers all the regular programming, the on-screen schedule grid, the firmware upgrades and software updates, and account validation. That is enough for me I think, as I like to keep things separate.

The "reality series" I think you are talking about was more along the lines of what a "blaxploitation" film is to blacks. At least in the commercials. It might be difficult to find, but look for Aaron's Way (1988). It was a TV series with Merlin Olsen. It was a drama about an Amish family done in a sober, delicate manner, apparently never to be rereleased or aired again.
