I like a couple of selections from Tangerine Dream in the film "The Soldier" (1982).

I remember them!  There was a friend I had who was into them.  Three guys jamming together, if I recall correctly.  My buddy really liked them and I really liked Vangelis.

  2. Here is another Vangelis theme, from the movie Antarctica (1983).

One of the ones I remember and liked the most.  Very serene.

    From IMDB:
Two Japanese scientists, Ushioda and Ochi, develop a bond with their sled dogs while on an expedition in Antarctica. Ushioda and Ochi eventually leave Antarctica, only to return to search for the dogs inadvertently marooned there.

The Korean (?) spam has been back in full force the last week or so. I'm not much of a message board guy, but I guess I'm on four message boards, and TCM is the only one where this is a never-ending problem. Been a long time since I became a member. Don't you have to prove you're not a bot or something before you start posting? I wish administrators could finally after so many years  find a way to end this once and for all. The other message boards I'm on seem to have done it.

    The monetization must be better.

  4. Vangelis.  Yeah, that Chariots Of Fire guy.

He is said to live like a monk.  It is most certain that he has more toys than anyone else and he knows how to use them.

He needs no introduction from me.

This video contains excerps of a bio of him.  Near the end he talks about both of his parents.  It is revealed that he composed the theme to Chariots Of Fire as a requiem for his recently deceased father, who happened to be a former Olympian.  It wasn't until just before the movie was released to the general public that he played this for the producers, and it was this unreleased song he wrote for his dad that was immediately added as the main theme to the movie.

That just means  that the traffic between TCM & your browser isn't encrypted (like your online banking etc) - for a forum, it's hardly necessary & would make server response slower.

The problem seems to be that it's too easy for spam-bots to sign up multiple throw-away accounts & then spam them to death, until the mod notices & brings out their ban-hammer.

Maybe TCM should introduce a spamalot club especially for them - only 94,125 or 78,292 (depending on which side of the DMZ they're on) to join up!

At first I got the impression there was some reluctance to take care of this, "as if" it might keep some well doers from registering and posting here.  Given some further reflection, I think it is simple economics and just more default settings.

Blimey, it's exhausting just watching that (but also strangely hypnotic to see the rise & fall of the crowd in the background...)!

Meanwhile, the beach party concept has not proved popular this week in the UK:

About the same over here.  But wait, aren't there a few more days of Oscar?

So no, it isn't an issue yet.  But this better be cleaned up and sunny in a couple days!

Gotta say here MCOH that this sounded like it would be more suitable for a movie titled "Breakfast at Bellevue" than it would for one about "Tiffany's"! ;)

(...ahh, but then again, maybe after all these years I've just been conditioned to think of theremin music as best accompanied to the more "weird" storylines in movies, huh)

As the PBS painter Bob Ross might have put it, somewhere between the happy clouds and the angry trees flies a bluebird wistfully singing its song.

Isao Tomita's electronica version of Debussy's Arabesque was for decades the theme to Jack Horkheimer's Star Hustler on PBS (at least until Horkheimer retired).

Here's one.  Tomita was one of the first to use a Moog synthesizer, during the period when they were only available in the large modular systems.  At that time it took weeks and months, not hours or days, to lay down a track like this.  According to him, much of that had to do with the learning curve which was associated with using it, and also the fact that different sounds needed various patch cables to be moved around and adjustments made.  In many cases if they really liked a sound they would have done all the takes without changing a thing, because there was no guarantee that once they changed it they could go back to it later.

Ah yes, Lydia! How I so fondly remember her.

Ya know, you can learn a lot from Lydia.

When her Theremin she plays, she'll take your mind far away, to places like Bombay or even Mandalay.

(...yep, you can sure learn a lot from Lydia, alright!)

LOL  We may be talking about different Lydias.  This one is a distant relative of Lev Theremin.  Or so the story goes.  Your mileage may vary.  FWIW, probably not much.

The ending of "Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages" (1922), listen to the score at the 1:38:45 time mark on Youtube.  Perfect recording using Audacity.  Does it has a name?

I'm going to guess that you are talking about this.  There is more than one score.
    https://youtu.be/CkXlXc0lA9c?t=5913

That video's description sent me here.  They do original music for film scores.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rats_%26_People_Motion_Picture_Orchestra

Then they had a website listed on their Wiki page.  But their website domain name has expired.

There is also a small amount that can be found on Youtube:

  11. Here is one.  Since someone mentioned Theremins earlier.

This is Lydia Kavina, who is probably the best known living theremin player today.

Having said that, I am still trying to figure this out.  There is Lydia's part which you will clearly be able to hear.

Then there is a guy behind with a Mac Book Pro - usually when you see these on stage it means drum loops or drum and bass loops.  Either that or the guy is a DJ.  But in this case most likely a performer.

Then to the right of her is presumably another theremin player, although it has quite a different form factor for a theremin (they usually just have a box and two antennas sticking out).  This thing looks like a different beast.

Behind him is someone doing God knows what.  Okay, upon a second look I saw a keyboard.

Then there is a harp player to the left.  I tried listing to this on my computer speakers and heard no harp.  Did they not mic it up?  Maybe I should try it on a pair of headphones.  It also might be that the harp has pickup coils like a guitar and is feeding something else that you are hearing, like some of the distortion throughout, and the noise at the end that sounds like an upright piano falling down about 15 flights of stairs.  Or not.

    It is quite different.

Actually not bad here, ham, but I suppose you have seen this version of it too...

There were some guys over at another forum who noticed them some time ago.  A group of live event production guys, we all had a good chuckle.  Plenty of material for jokes, of course these guys would joyfully welcome it.  As I recall, the founders were in the alternative or punk rock scene back in the late 70s or so.  Go figure.

But I am right on the same platter with MovieCollectorOH-I too own SEVERAL Persuasive Percussion stereo albums, luckily inherited from my parents. Love them.

RCA made groovy compilations competing with Capitol's Lounge series called "Space Age Pop-Melodies & Mischief" that includes Persuasive Percussion type tunes as well as Esquivel, Perez Prado & others. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED to anyone who enjoyed Ohio's clips. I love, love LOVE that Don Costa posted & will have to find some of his music on CD.

And how could I have forgotten my favorite- Les Baxter? He scored several AIP films like 63's THE RAVEN, 65's BEACH BLANKET BINGO and DR GOLDFOOT & THE BIKINI MACHINE and released several albums now available on CD.

One of my most treasured 78s is his theremin laced version of Ravel's compositions on MUSIC OUT OF THE MOON '47 Featuring movie theremin player Dr Samuel Hoffman. 220px-Music_Out_of_the_Moon.jpg

Nice selections!  It is good to know I am not completely alone in this.

I PM'd you with the rest of that Don Costa album.

  14. Okay one more for now.  This one is a one-off album for Don Costa from 1958.  He served as one of Frank Sinatra's arrangers and band leaders, as well as having a career of his own.  One night Don Costa and his band rented a big bar in town and they invited all their friends for a sing-along.  They ended up going through the songs fairly quickly, as most of the people in the crowd were drinking, and the band began to realize the crowd was fading and they didn't have all night to get things perfect.

I don't see much up on Youtube so here are a couple audio samples of that.  This is from my collection as well.
