I'd rather see a drive-in movie myself.

Metropolis was a blueprint for media intervention/manipulation. I've been trying to forget about the hysterical MSM. I have Network, maybe I'll watch it. I'd rather not though.

Haven't seen it.

In 1970 there was a Time-Life series of LPs called The Swing Era. It featured the Billy May Orchestra. They played faithfully to the original artist's recordings, with the newer technology of the day including being in stereo. He was still active during those years doing music for movies and TV. Maybe someone like this.

I was a big fan too. In addition to his music career, Tom Petty was also a voice actor for the cartoon series King Of The Hill. He played "Lucky", a vagrant who married into the family. The voice actress who played Lucky's wife has also passed away several years ago. Recently Mike Judge, co-creator of King Of The Hill, was thinking about rebooting the series. Rest in Peace.

So they were able to show Just Imagine (1930) at the big theater film festival in Tikisoo's area a year ago, but TCM is showing a Madonna movie yet has never shown that. [gulp]. I've read of maybe a few posters who saw PD versions of Just Imagine who didn't like it (fair enough), but don't tell me for a moment you'd rather they show a Madonna movie. Heck, I'd rather even watch Hot Spell.

Movie dates sometimes vary between different sources. I don't know about this case right now, but when that does happen then I visually reconcile those by looking at director and top stars, genre, and duration to verify it is in fact the same movie. For my lists I go between IMDB and the TCM database (made from the AFI database). I don't know but that may be the case here. Yes, we are talking about the Monkees movie.

I think I'm going to go with Ray Noble w/ Al Bowlly here (or maybe just Al Bowlly) - if it has to be narrowed down to a known singer. Your video sounds more tinny (vox high pass filtered maybe around 500 Hz), intentionally to match the sound of a Victrola or Western Electric transducer from the era, whereas the song from The Shining has a prominent 250-ish Hz resonance in the recording (he doesn't necessarily have a deeper voice), and reverb in the movie. P.S. I see someone else mentioned Ray Noble in the past. Okay, maybe a sound-alike. Agree with slaytonf, get in touch with radio stations and other people in the industry.

Thanks, cmovieviewer. Right now my lists all get updated as soon as the newest future schedule comes out. That gives the latest tentative schedule at that point. It is normally around the beginning or middle of the month though, so there is still time for them to make changes. I'll probably keep doing it this way as there is no clearly defined cutoff date (unless you have a better idea). They have been known to change the schedule a few hours before air time though. I suppose replacing Head (1965) with a 1980s Madonna movie is the new lateral move, akin to 65 being the new 35 and 70 being the new 45.

I have some of these movies in PD form, from sites like archive.org and Youtube. Just replying here because I found Zotz and The Twonky to be fun too. I'll have to figure out how to catch this Sven guy.

Agree with you and Lawrence and us disagreeing at times, there are some good (and bad) titles in these two threads, though I usually keep my yap shut. I can think of a number of movies that I think are fun, just because they are crazy. Then again, I am often not "on board" with the consensus. As for Beyonce (and a bit O/T for a classic film forum), here is a purely observational, non-scientific, apolitical, non-religious site whose main purpose is to focus on occult symbolism in pop culture and attempts to quantify the all-too-familiar (to viewers) idiosyncratic behavior "pop stars" and movie stars exhibit today. I'm just mentioning this since Beyonce has a number of entries here. I have a small website that I must have used, though I think nearly everyone here uses image hosting sites for that. Just don't try to do it with Photobucket, as their services are no longer free. I never did figure out whether or not they actually store the image. It is obvious that they don't have a thumbnail uploader that works, but beyond that?? Is everyone's thumbnail image coming from around the Internet for each page that is opened? If so, rendering time would take a hit. The front end to this message board appears to have been mothballed, though I'll bet it was just put together by someone who is no longer around, and nobody there knows how to work on it. Sorry, I didn't intend to raise more questions than I answered.

On a technical level that shouldn't be much of an issue. I have coordinated group activities before using Sendblaster, a small little program which behaves like an email client, has its own database. A computer program like this should be able to do what would be required in this case. http://www.sendblaster.com/ It could be a coordination problem between different companies. It is being mailed out by TCM (or perhaps on their behalf), and a marketing/promotions company hosts the NPG and provides a unique personalized link for each of TCM's customers. This personalized link is contained in the email TCM sends out, and is the only way to get to the NPG. So both companies need to be on track with their inventory of active customers. I don't see what the issue could be either. As marketing and promotions is this other company's core business product, they should be all set to go with something like this. Regrettably I didn't think to do any research on this other company when saw the link and had the chance to.

According To Mrs. Hoyle is a small-time comedy/crime, so I am looking forward to that. According to the IMDB stats, it only has 5 people who rated it. So definitely rarely seen.

That's probably where you'd have to be a good active listener and sort through the cruft. Kind of like one needs to on this forum, or what today's college students must bear if they are to actually learn anything so they can apply themselves later on in a career. Learning to think for themselves versus just learning what others tell them to think (indoctrination by any other name). Outside of a class about film theory, we might be talking about two different things. The value of getting an actual director or screen writer (as per my last post) would be the difference between the anecdotal "he said/she said" versus firsthand stories. You wouldn't be getting studio system-era directors, to be sure. In one's dreams, someone like Spielberg might be there though. I agree one could do self-directed study, given some purpose in mind and enough resources. That is how most people really learn (even as college students). Then guess what - the self-directed learning process repeats itself all over again after one gets their first job. The firsthand stories from actual professionals and interactive Q&A would just be icing on the cake.
