Metropolis was a blueprint for media intervention/manipulation. I've been trying to forget about the hysterical MSM. I have Network, maybe I'll watch it. I'd rather not though.
-
How do you feel about the eleven times they've shown 'Harum Scarum'?
Haven't seen it.

In 1970 there was a Time-Life series of LPs called The Swing Era. It featured the Billy May Orchestra. They played faithfully to the original artist's recordings, with the newer technology of the day including being in stereo. He was still active during those years doing music for movies and TV. Maybe someone like this.

Mailchimp? The name does not inspire confidence.
A lot of dubious names out there for newer tech companies. I don't believe this is anyone's last name.

I was a big fan too. In addition to his music career, Tom Petty was also a voice actor for the cartoon series King Of The Hill. He played "Lucky", a vagrant who married into the family. The voice actress who played Lucky's wife has also passed away several years ago. Recently Mike Judge, co-creator of King Of The Hill, was thinking about rebooting the series.
Rest in Peace.

Hoping for a good outcome here.

Where do I go to report to the Hysteria Channel that there are other wars besides that of 1861-1865 and the one of 1939-1945?
History Channel is owned by same mega media corps that bring you MSM. Hysteria indeed.

That is what nobody is addressing. You would think somebody could do a simple email or a post on this site to explain what is happening.
Well if someone wants to dig into this some more, get in touch with Mailchimp, with reference to the TCM NPG. They are the company serving the online NPG. TCM may have an iron-clad closed-mouth policy, but this is a different organization.

So they were able to show Just Imagine (1930) at the big theater film festival in Tikisoo's area a year ago, but TCM is showing a Madonna movie yet has never shown that. [gulp]. I've read of maybe a few posters who saw PD versions of Just Imagine who didn't like it (fair enough), but don't tell me for a moment you'd rather they show a Madonna movie.
Heck, I'd
rathereven watch Hot Spell.-

Try as I could, I couldn't find any information about a 1965 film called "Head". Only the '68 movie by The Monkees, which wouldn't be objected to by me if shown on TCM( I think it was). But anyway.....
And since we've discussed the various definitions of the word "classic" and how they apply to movies, it's safe to assume that "classic" doesn't always mean "old", or of a specific age. Or even class. So.....
Don't like Madonna? Well, me either. But then, I've never really cared much for GEORGE SANDERS and TCM shows his movies. A LOT. Yet I don't mind nor gnash my teeth that it might mean "the end" of TCM.

Movie dates sometimes vary between different sources. I don't know about this case right now, but when that does happen then I visually reconcile those by looking at director and top stars, genre, and duration to verify it is in fact the same movie. For my lists I go between IMDB and the TCM database (made from the AFI database). I don't know but that may be the case here. Yes, we are talking about the Monkees movie.

I think I'm going to go with Ray Noble w/ Al Bowlly here (or maybe just Al Bowlly) - if it has to be narrowed down to a known singer. I listened to the sample here which I came across in your links:
and that singer reminded me of the song at the end of The Shining:
Here is a clearer recording
And that turned out to be Al Bowlly.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081505/soundtrack?ref_=tt_trv_snd
No references, nothing to go by, other than A-B listening. Your video sounds more tinny (vox high pass filtered maybe around 500 Hz), intentionally to match the sound of a Victrola or Western Electric transducer from the era, whereas the song from The Shining has a prominent 250-ish Hz resonance in the recording (he doesn't necessarily have a deeper voice), and reverb in the movie.
P.S. I see someone else mentioned Ray Noble in the past. Okay, maybe a sound-alike. Agree with slaytonf, get in touch with radio stations and other people in the industry.

@OP: Likewise. Well, at least for that one time slot.

Thanks, cmovieviewer. Right now my lists all get updated as soon as the newest future schedule comes out. That gives the latest tentative schedule at that point. It is normally around the beginning or middle of the month though, so there is still time for them to make changes. I'll probably keep doing it this way as there is no clearly defined cutoff date (unless you have a better idea). They have been known to change the schedule a few hours before air time though.
I suppose replacing Head (1965) with a 1980s Madonna movie is the new lateral move, akin to 65 being the new 35 and 70 being the new 45.

As I said, I discovered Sven here in metro Atlanta TV by accident. I found METV as a local station. I have AT&T and you can look up things by actors' names, TV channel or title on a search site. The films Sven shows aren't listed by the name of the film; it's under Svengoolie. I don't know if this helps you but if you are able to get METV in the Land of Bread and Circuses you should get Sven.
Thanks. I don't know if I get that. I'll have to look into it. I probably do.

Tonight Sven has a little class and shows the classic FRANKENSTEIN('31). A huge departure from his usual fare.
But someone mentioning TOM POSTON in anther thread made me think it's way past time for either Sven OR TCM, seeing as some were complaining about TCM's choices and passes on Sci-Fi movies, to show another two "classics" of the genre......
ZOTZ('62) starring Poston, and THE TWONKY ('53) starring HANS CONRIED..
Thus proving that the genres are MORE than merely space aliens or goofy looking creatures that are just guys in rubber suits.

I have some of these movies in PD form, from sites like archive.org and Youtube. Just replying here because I found Zotz and The Twonky to be fun too.
I'll have to figure out how to catch this Sven guy.

My unpopular opinions:
I hate Apocalypse Now with the passion of a thousand fiery suns. It was too long. Too boring. And just plain bad. I watched the whole time waiting for Brando, he finally appeared, I hated him and wanted him to go away. Never again.
I don't like Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. The first couple of Harry Potters were okay, but I don't understand the fanaticism of this franchise. Each film got progressively more convoluted and depressing. Frankly, I find them tedious and I get bored. I think I've only seen the first four films and bailed after that. Lord of the Rings is just boring.
I don't find Monty Python all that funny.
I don't understand why Beyonce is so popular and why she has such a rabid fan base and why she's held up as some sort of martyr. She's not that great. Her music isn't good. And now Beyonce is believing her own hype. She's so full of herself it's pathetic.
Agree with you and Lawrence and us disagreeing at times, there are some good (and bad) titles in these two threads, though I usually keep my yap shut. I can think of a number of movies that I think are fun, just because they are crazy. Then again, I am often not "on board" with the consensus.
As for Beyonce (and a bit O/T for a classic film forum), here is a purely observational, non-scientific, apolitical, non-religious site whose main purpose is to focus on occult symbolism in pop culture and attempts to quantify the all-too-familiar (to viewers) idiosyncratic behavior "pop stars" and movie stars exhibit today. I'm just mentioning this since Beyonce has a number of entries here. They also have a healthy-sized article on the movie Metropolis which I have probably posted here before.

I have a small website that I must have used, though I think nearly everyone here uses image hosting sites for that. Just don't try to do it with Photobucket, as their services are no longer free.
I never did figure out whether or not they actually store the image. It is obvious that they don't have a thumbnail uploader that works, but beyond that?? Is everyone's thumbnail image coming from around the Internet for each page that is opened? If so, rendering time would take a hit.
The front end to this message board appears to have been mothballed, though I'll bet it was just put together by someone who is no longer around, and nobody there knows how to work on it.
Sorry, I didn't intend to raise more questions than I answered.

Day 25 and no email NPG
I considered what you said, but I do not believe that is the problem. It it was, TCM in Atlanta GA would send out emails or have one of the moderators/administrators here explain what is happening. Last time I contacted TCM via phone I was pretty much told I would get it when I got it.
I do not believe it has anything to do with Palm Coast, FL, but I could be mistaken. That area of Florida is the location for a lot of mailing sites, particularly magazines. Whereas this is an email, supposedly from TCM.
I sent a mail order to PBS in Melbourne, FL before Irma. When I sent an email to check on status, within 24 hours I had an explanation and what they were doing to resolve the problem.
I'm beginning to think that TCM never intended for there to be an email version of the NPG which would be sent to everyone who requested it. Either that or they need to call the Geek Squad - or a 12 yer old.
On a technical level that shouldn't be much of an issue. I have coordinated group activities before using Sendblaster, a small little program which behaves like an email client, has its own database. A computer program like this should be able to do what would be required in this case.
It could be a coordination problem between different companies. It is being mailed out by TCM (or perhaps on their behalf), and a marketing/promotions company hosts the NPG and provides a unique personalized link for each of TCM's customers. This personalized link is contained in the email TCM sends out, and is the only way to get to the NPG. So both companies need to be on track with their inventory of active customers.
I don't see what the issue could be either. As marketing and promotions is this other company's core business product, they should be all set to go with something like this. Regrettably I didn't think to do any research on this other company when saw the link and had the chance to.

Hmm. Beyond the Backlot TV commercial, I just don't get it. Are there any other sell kits or resources I am missing?
Please, no commercial breaks during the movies.

AFI's 100 Years of Film Scores
My choices in bold:
1. Star Wars (1977) - John Williams
2. Gone With the Wind (1939) - Max Steiner
3. Lawrence of Arabia (1962) - Maurice Jarre
4. Psycho (1960) - Bernard Herrmann (my choice for #1)
5. The Godfather (1972) - Nina Rota
6. Jaws (1975) - John Williams
7. Laura (1944) - David Raksin
8. The Magnificent Seven (1960) - Elmer Bernstein
9. Chinatown (1974) - Jerry Goldsmith
10. High Noon (1952) - Dimitri Tiomkin
11. The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) - Erich Wolfgang Korngold
12. Vertigo (1958) - Bernard Herrmann
13. King Kong (1933) - Max Steiner
14. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) - John Williams
15. Out of Africa (1985) - John Barry
16. Sunset Blvd. (1950) - Franz Waxman
17. To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) - Elmer Bernstein
18. Planet of the Apes (1968) - Jerry Goldsmith
19. A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) - Alex North
20. The Pink Panther (1964) - Henry Mancini
21. Ben-Hur (1959) - Miklos Rozsa
22. On the Waterfront (1954) - Leonard Bernstein
23. The Mission (1986) - Ennio Morricone
24. On Golden Pond (1981) - Dave Grusin
25. How the West Was Won (1962) - Alfred Newman
---
These people allegedly know their stuff? Most of these are listed b/c the films themselves are popular. I can't believe Mancini's Touch of Evil was left off. Or Jerome Moross' The Big Country.
But the big shocker is Ernest Gold's Exodus, which not only beat out Herrmann's Psycho for the Oscar but was also a big pop hit. Has it been forgotten already?
I also would have included:
E. Bernstein, Hud
E. Bernstein, The Man With The Golden Arm
Rosza, Double Indemnity
Korngold, King's Row
Delerue, The Day Of The Dolphin
Korngold's Kings Row got first place! In influence that is.

According To Mrs. Hoyle is a small-time comedy/crime, so I am looking forward to that. According to the IMDB stats, it only has 5 people who rated it. So definitely rarely seen.

M-G-M ruined Robby's film career. after forbidden planet they put him into one of the lamest sci-fi turkeys of all time, the invisible boy.

little richard eyer visits Robby after he disassembled himself...

I think someone should cast Robby in a new movie.

Seems to me that might be more useful if I intended to become a film maker or a film critic. Otherwise it might just come off as someone trying to tell ME how THEY think I should watch movies. Or at least how THEY go about watching them. Has no bearing on what I do or how I go about my business.

That's probably where you'd have to be a good active listener and sort through the cruft. Kind of like one needs to on this forum, or what today's college students must bear if they are to actually learn anything so they can apply themselves later on in a career. Learning to think for themselves versus just learning what others tell them to think (indoctrination by any other name). Outside of a class about film theory, we might be talking about two different things. The value of getting an actual director or screen writer (as per my last post) would be the difference between the anecdotal "he said/she said" versus firsthand stories. You wouldn't be getting studio system-era directors, to be sure. In one's dreams, someone like Spielberg might be there though. I agree one could do self-directed study, given some purpose in mind and enough resources. That is how most people really learn (even as college students). Then guess what - the self-directed learning process repeats itself all over again after one gets their first job. The firsthand stories from actual professionals and interactive Q&A would just be icing on the cake.

Very nice, cmovieviewer! That brings it closer to what others are used to.

I'd rather see a drive-in movie myself.
