me neither

maybe they forgot to mention it gets sent to PAYING 'Backlot' members First!?

Hi Mr6666, maybe this is going to sound a bit creepy but I was pondering exactly the same thing, just about 5 mins after you posted. A new business model?

I used the monthly schedule at tcm.com which says it is "Now Playing Guide" in order to do a test print. Learned that my printer will do two sided if I just click a "button" for it.
However, if you do B&W only, you cannot read the Day and Date.
Also, the director and stars will not print. As I noted earlier when I did a preview for my printer, this happened even if I selected color.
I tried to copy and past to word and print from that, but it adds a lot of gibberish to the document.
As for getting it earlier, I would send a printed letter to the TCM mailing address I listed earlier. I have already done this.
I forget if I suggested saving it to a PDF file, and then printing from that PDF file.
I have done the first part for you. See what happens with this:
-
Tried both B&W and color. Same result. I almost never use color as the damn cartridges cost so much.
My printer is just an inexpensive Canon Pixma from Walmart. I got it because it is compatible with my operating system. I'd have to plug it in but I seem to recall it having at least two different B&W print settings. One includes half-tones and semi-tones, and the other blanks them out (perhaps useful for removing marks and smudges from scanned in documents??). Not sure, maybe yours thinks the lighter colored text is unwanted, and maybe that is something that can be disabled.
-
Do any of you have any of the now playing guides that date back to the early Cable TV days of TCM that you could try and find a film that aired on there back then that I've been trying to find for years?
...
Can anyone help me identify this film?
I have most of it from the earliest years. I'll see if I can find anything.

TCM has just announced they are changing the name of their program guide to "Was Playing."
Don Was, of Was (Not Was), playing
-
Just went to see what printed version would look like and then to see if I could manipulate printing. When I viewed the print version before even trying anything, the names of the director and stars were absent. Tried it both ways - same result. It may be because they are light blue one month and light gray on another rather than black? I checked my printer dialogue box and it shows color selected.
Maybe try setting it to B&W? If that happened to work, it would also be cheaper.
-
Thanks again. I think I have it. I saved it as a favorite site. Not sure what a text document is. You would think TCM could make it simpler, but then again - it's free (sort of).
Great!!

Agreed that those work, but I cannot access those links through the tcm.com schedules. When I click on monthly at tcm.com, it brings up August and there is no way to make it change.
No, there is no way to change it from there. The TCM website's menu link for the current month can not be substituted to a different month by hand as we are talking about here, it is a single-ended URL that only works on the current month. A shortcoming of the website. [i think this alone is probably the answer you were looking for.]
How would I save the link you use to get to a changeable monthly schedule?
There is no such thing as a "changeable" monthly schedule. The monthly schedule has no menu or links to get to future months. You can only view the current month (ie. the month of August during the month of August) using the menus and links on their website.
Due to a different URL format that future months use (which is nowhere to be found on their website), all future months need to be entered by hand (or copied and pasted in from a text document), exactly as shown.
I did copy one of them to my browser and then changed the month and it worked. Is that how to do it?
Yes. You would need to manually copy and paste it into your browser and then change it by hand like that every single time. I save mine to a text document on my computer, using a text editor, and change it from there.
Sorry to be such a pain, but this really has become quite confusing and I forsee problems with the NPG email versions.
Not at all. I just wanted to make sure it all worked out for you. It seemed to be a simple misunderstanding, but I just didn't know where.
-
Finally figured out that if I click on Daily or Weekly and then move the calendar to next month and click on 1st day (or any day), it brings up that day or week in the next month.
Unfortunately when you expand for descriptions, it may also open up a Leonard Maltin review that is longer than the movie description AND an ad for buying the DVD.
The monthly calendar is still the Now Playing one for August and can't figure out how to change that.
Let's approach this from a different angle. Click on each of these links and look at the first three movies for each one. Notice each link brings up a different set of movies.

Thanks for what you have done and hopefully will continue to do.
What is the title of the thread and is it under General Discussions? Thanks,
Hi, you're welcome. The premieres are in Mr. 6666's TCM Premieres thread. If you want you can click on the link below in my signature area for other things related to the scheduling.

Does your dish have a clear line-of-sight? Are there trees in the way? There are diagnostics that the technician can look at, though not all may think to try. One of them shows the signal strengths of all the transponders on each satellite it receives. Probably more than you want to think about, but definitely something a Directv technician can look at (this is easily done using the satellite receiver and TV set).

For what it's worth.....
w/o my print edition (which ended this month) , I can no longer continue the TCM PREMIERES announcement thread.
(Unless, like THIS month, I can print a list like 'cmovieviewer' & 'MovieCollectorOH' so generously provided me)

mr6666,
Like you, I didn't want to miss any September premieres while waiting on the newsletter, so I put together a list based on MCOH's data. Please refer to the 'TCM Premieres' thread.
Hi guys. I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing, nothing different on my end whatsoever. Feel free, that's what it's there for.

In the Now Playing magazine, the daytime programming themes, premieres, and spotlight movies for the month were typically listed in a front section called 'At A Glance'. To my knowledge, the equivalent information has so far not been readily available online. The first newsletter that TCM posted for August included a link to a pdf of the 'At A Glance' section that had been printed in the August issue of the magazine (the final issue). So this was the first 'online' version of this info that had been sent out.
My hope was that TCM would continue to create the 'At A Glance' section in upcoming newsletters. Since the September newsletter hasn't been sent yet, we still don't know if that section will continue or not. In the meantime, all we can do is try to collect this information on our own by studying and interpreting the online monthly schedule. That's another reason why I appreciate the work you do to determine what the upcoming premieres are!
Okay. It sounds like some of this stuff wasn't online to begin with then. So bringing it online would be part of the transformation, be it in the privately emailed PDF files or the publicly available website schedules.
As far as my project goes, the roughest parts are behind me. It is easy enough for me to keep it going, so no worries.

I'm going to go out on a limb here (not very far out though) and suggest that an IT staff doesn't quite exist. Not that one didn't in the past... I hadn't really put that much thought into it, but that's just what it is looking like to me.
-
The SCHEDULES have always been easy to access months in advance.
My beef is that I can't read the stories, see "premieres" or "spotlights" either by list or icon. It used to be easy to skim over what might be different from the same old movies on the schedule by icons or articles.
Phooey is right.
I'm not familiar with what some of you were looking at before. Bear in mind I do my own thing with the schedules, so I don't pay a whole lot of attention to these other things. Are you saying the "premieres" or "spotlights" are completely gone now?

I was curious how long ago the latest server update actually happened. In my OP I posted the version list from Wikipedia. Now here is the version list from Apache:
https://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/changelog.html
To recap, they are using Apache Tomcat 6.0.35. Version 6.0 was "sunsetted" in April of 2017 with the final point release 6.0.53. That means there won't be any more security or maintenance on 6.0.
Based on the document linked above, the version they are using (6.0.35) was released on 2011-12-05. Then the next point release after that (6.0.36) came on 2012-10-19. The point release they are using was basically a minor release in between two bigger point releases, nothing that special about that. That helps my theory that they were just using the latest that was available at the time.
So it is safe to say their server software hasn't been updated since sometime in late 2011 or 2012. Security patches on their end wouldn't have been available since April of 2017.

Thanks, I tried those and it brings up the schedules from tcm.com. Tried to change the dates/months, etc. per your advice, but it won't let me.
Interestingly, when I go to the monthly using above URL, it brings up the new Now Playing Movie Listings. Same as if you click on monthly on the tcm.com website.
Also, when I tried to change the month the old way, by advancing the pop-up calendar, it doesn't change the display. Must be broke.
Try changing those dates in a text editor first. There might be something silly happening with your browser.
P.S. The ad banner at the top of the "Now Playing" (Monthly) page now only displays the current month, even if you are looking at a future month.
They really shouldn't have removed the real name of the month from the Monthly page, it is causing all sorts of confusion. (ie. if it is August and you are looking ahead at the October Monthly page, then it should say October somewhere...) So now the Monthly page is the "Now Playing" page. One step forward, two steps back.

I copied your link and used it, but it only goes through Oct. 24. This is the same schedule I get if I go to tcm.com and click on Full Schedule, select weekly or monthly and then adjust the calendar, correct?
This isn't really documented anywhere, so just save this somewhere so you can avoid pulling your hair out.
Date format = YYYY-MM-DD. Adjust month or day to suit. For Monthly schedule just change the month, for Weekly adjust the month and day.
Daily Schedule URL format:
tcm.com/schedule/index.html?tz=est&sdate=2017-08-01
Weekly Schedule URL format:
tcm.com/schedule/weekly.html?tz=est&sdate=2017-08-01
Monthly Schedule URL format:
tcm.com/schedule/monthly.html?tz=est&sdate=2017-08-01
P.S. Between the Daily and Weekly, the Daily (default "Full Schedule") is flawed and has obvious glitches whenever they change something. Sometimes those changes never properly show up in the Daily schedule. I do not recommend using the Daily schedule. Instead I recommend bookmarking and using the Weekly:
tcm.com/schedule/weekly.html
The Weekly always seems to be correct. And soon afterwards, so is the Monthly.
Clear as mud.

I have emailed TCM via the contact us link at tcm.com several times on various issues, this being one of them.
NO RESPONSE EVER.
I wrote the CEO an actual letter about two months ago. No response!
7:12 PM - just sent another email to tcm.com contact us re: email version. Also signed up for the email version again. You would think by this point in time, they would at least send out a test email to those who subscribed.
It's unfortunate, but just about the only way to get anyone's attention in corporations these days is to post something for all to see on their Twitter or Facebook account. I'm not a fan of any of these, and I suspect you aren't either. So unless someone else who actually does have an account like this wants to play along, those options are probably off the table.

I actually referenced that movie yesterday during the eclipse. I was talking to a friend and told him that I'd be inside while everyone got vaporized, as in Night of the Comet, and then I'd go to the mall and dance to bad 80's music. I really like that movie.
Not out of the question as it was already shown in 2013. In fact I actually recorded it off TCM but probably just haven't watched it yet. Sounds like a corollary to Roller Boogie culture and other bad but wonderful 80s types of things.

HELP!!
I certainly can find the LIST of September movies (http://www.tcm.com/schedule/monthly.html?tz=est&sdate=2017-9-01) even though the header hasn't been updated and still says "August".
Does anyone know why some titles on this listing page are bold, while others in regular type?
And from searching this site, I found BartonKeys' posting of SOTM Jennifer Jones listed movies. (thank you) But I do not have a clue which movies in the general month's listing are spotlighted, their categories (ie "women in prison" or "child stars") or most importantly, which movies are "premieres".
I go through the upcoming month's listings to decide what to watch & what to record, since I don't want to miss anything of note.
TCM emails me a "newsletter" around the first of the month-TOO LATE FOLKS!
Nothing on the website links to upcoming highlights, just the current month.
At least I think so, maybe someone here can help me navigate to where the upcoming month's specifics may be on this site?
Hi Tikisoo. I took a look at the schedule you linked to. The header is just static. It is irrelevant in context of whatever monthly page you are looking at.
The bold entries are also irrelevant, they just alternate on every other entry. At this point it is definitely just for looks.
For the time being...the address bar at the top of the browser will still have the website address you clicked on or entered into it. You could further cross-check your month by looking on the schedule for what day of the week the first of the month falls on. Then look at an actual calendar to verify (ie. Aug 1 2017 = Tues; Sept 1 2017 = Fri, etc. Ergo, "On this schedule I see the 1st happens on a Friday, ahh yes it is September."). Not always bulletproof, as Sept 1 and Dec 1 both fall on a Fri, but at least plausible when considering the surrounding months.
I agree the newsletter should be sent out in advance, then they could send updates or fixes to that afterwards. Emails are free. They are still a new idea.

Also maybe consider
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1949)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0041259/?ref_=nv_sr_1
I haven't seen this, but the foreknowledge of the eclipse sounds like something straight out of the book (I remember reading this as a kid). In the book he also introduced them to a water well with an iron pump, and dynamite.

Those things are so prevalent on other stations I've gotten to where I don't even notice them anymore. When they first started appearing they annoyed the hell out of me.
Sepiatone
Everything on those stations has an impressive aspect ratio that way. Kind of like a postage stamp-sized Cinemascope movie on a HD TV.

Newest schedule analysis info is posted. Twice this month, which makes up for last month.
Here is my revised premiere list.

In case anyone is interested: Using Firefox browser, I clicked Print from the menu, and first it brings up the print dialog box. From that box there is a list of printers I can choose to print from. My printer is in there and selected, but there is also another choice which says "Print To File". I selected that option, filename to name it, and made sure PDF was selected. That was enough to generate that file. The file will be where you saved it.
There may be a similar feature with other internet browsers.
