Swithin--I had roughly the same reaction to E.T. The ExtraTerrestrial (1982) the Forbes magazine reviewer describes his father having. If the film is THAT good--Go See It! Encourage good filmmakers to keep making films--don't let a good, small film (compared to "San Andreas" (2015), & too many more to list) bomb at the box office.

Friday, Nov. 6th--All times E.S.T.: One fluke, the predecessor of "Alien" (?), & late Joan Crawford:
6:00 a.m.--"Across the Pacific"--(1942)--1/3rd romantic comedy, 1/3 spy film, 1/3rd WW II film--it sounds muddled, but because of Bogart & Astor, it works.
12:00 a.m.--"It! The Terror From Beyond Space"--(1958)--The film "Alien" (1979) was a remake of???
1:30 a.m.--"Berserk"--(1967)--Joan Crawford as Ringmaster of a circus plagued by murders

R.I.P., Melissa Mathison--I saw "The Black Stallion" (1979) & "E. T. The Extra Terrestrial (1982) when they first came out. I had Never heard so much tears from an audience. In your career, you also wrote the screenplay for the fine television mini-series "Son of the Morning Star" (1991). Your intelligence & gift for writing moving screenplays will be greatly missed.
