Sunday, October 16th. All times E.S.T. 8:15 a.m. "Voice In The Wind" (1944)--Anti Nazi film about how Nazi torture causes a concert pianist to lose his memory, and the aftermath. Starring Francis Lederer and Sigrid Gurie. Was a "Poverty Row" quickie that was elevated to a United Artists release because of the good word-of-mouth. Was nominated for Best Sound and Best Score Oscars. Odd film is worth a watch.

Interesting take on the scene in "How The West Was Won" (1963), where Thelma Ritter plays a widow(?) going West and Debbie Reynolds tries to join her. A look forward to "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" (1964)--Reynolds plays two independent women in both films.

"Hombre" (1967)--Starring Paul Newman, Diane Cilento, Fredric March, and Barbara Rush. Directed by Martin Ritt. Cynical, uninvolving Western where all the characters except Newman's and Cilento's are racist, cowards, out only for themselves, or all three. Newman plays his mixed-race character as stone faced, with minimal dialogue and expression. March is good as the ex-Indian Agent. Rush does well as his wife. Cilento provides welcome humor and humanity to the film. James Wong Howe's good photography can't disguise the fact that most of the film was shot on a set. The characters hair may be snarled and tangled from the wind, but the scenery behind them is motionless. "Hombre" was a real disappointment. 2.3/4
