  1. I thought the opening had a foreboding calmness to it. The sound design featured a lot of repetition of sounds, such as the cuckoo clock, car horns, and ball bouncing. Peter Lorre's shadow seems to hang over the film even before it literally enters the frame by the way the girls sing the song about him and the women discuss him. The girls singing reminds me of the way murderers become celebrities, a theme covered in later films like Bonnie and Clyde, Badlands, and Natural Born Killers.
