  1. Now THIS is a film that I want to continue watching. I love that it grabs you from the get-go. The night seems restless in the opening shots of the workers’ slumber, and you have a feeling right away that something is going to happen. And it does! This film opens with the climax and looks as though we are going to go on a journey to see how we arrived there. That, to me, is a sign of classic film noir, a la Citizen Cane and Mildred Pierce, with the main event followed by the backstory.   2. I thought that editing was well done and really contributed to the realistic aspects. As noted in my twitter post (@rockongdw), the opening scene of La Bete Humaine seemed realistic, except when the second conductor pokes his head out of the train with a cigarette and it didn’t budge. If the cigarette had flow away or he had taken it out of his mouth that it would have improved the realness of scene. The immediate screaming of the train at the opening was quite alarming, as was the hold and darkness of scene when the train enters the tunnel as the second conductor lights his next cigarette
  3. I have not seen the movie – YET, and the clip and comments certainly leave me wanting to see what happens next. Apart from agreeing with much of the comments on the great angles and lengthy pauses of the camera, the lighting and shadows and sounds creating terrific suspense apprehension, fear and foreshadowing, what struck me the most was the smile on the woman (mother?) when the church bell rang and the clock went off. It was an eerie smile…one that at first seemed a smile of relief with the bell and then turned sinister with the cuckoo ringing of clock. After reading the comment about the ap
