I watched so many noirs this summer my mind is incapable of remembering this one. I can't remember much except it's ending, which I'll do my best to describe. Anyway... ...the ending I can see either the police or a gangster, slouching behind or over a small hilltop, looking at a house across the street where they are to kill the person who comes to the door. I'm thinking that the persons who is to be killed knows this, or actually maybe doesn't, can't remember, but ultimately the wrong person comes to the door and gets shot. I think it may have been a maid/housekeeper, or a substitute maid. Anyway, she gets it. The gangster (or police) thinks he has killed the right person, only to find out later thst he shot the maid that came to the door. This ring a bell for anyone? Im pretty sure it's a well known film noir, nothing too off the radar, I just can't seem to recall. Thanks Ina advance !!
