  1. Noir films are usually fatalistic in tone and frequently use visual symbolism to create a sense of the inexorability of fate. One technique for symbolizing this is through continuous movement through the frame, often in a consistent direction. This unstoppable movement conjures a sense of inevitability. We are passengers moving relentlessly towards something we cannot avoid: the destiny of our protagonist. Both today's clip and yesterday's display this technique, masterfully and subtly employed.
