  1. I'm going to add Groundhog Day (1993). Not an official holiday because it doesn't get its own Hallmark card and federal and state government employees don't get the day off, but it does get its own mascot: Punxsutawney Phil.
  2. How about Christmas Holiday (1944), a noir starring Deanna Durbin and Gene Kelly?
  3. The Friends of Eddie Coyle (1973): stage a bank heist Experiment in Terror (1962): Lee Remick works as a bank teller Kansas City Confidential (1952): It's all about a bank heist. It's a Wonderful Life (1944): George Bailey is forever trying to get away from the Bailey Savings and Loan The Old Man and the Gun (2018): Robert Redford is a friendly, courteous bank robber. The Town (2010): which I would bet an ice cream cone owes a large debt to Eddie Coyle!
  4. Into the Woods (2014), of course!
  5. Two Christopher Nolan films: Following (1998) and Memento (2000) 12 Monkeys (1995) Interstellar (2014)
  6. Hold the Sunset, hilarious British comedy show starring Alison Steadman and John Cleese. If you watch British television shows as much as I apparently do, you'll recognize many of the supporting actors, too. Grace and Frankie, US television show Hello, My Name Is Doris (2016), starring Sally Field
  7. Interesting. I'm now reading Delayed Rays of a Star by Amanda Lee Koe. It's a work of fiction that got started because of a photo Koe found of Marlene Dietrich, Anna May Wong, and Lina Riefenstahl. It's fascinating, but it's not easy reading, partly because it doesn't shy away from political and wartime issues that the main characters sometimes don't see. I'm not finished reading it yet, but I still recommend it.
  8. Scott & Bailey (2011-2016), British show about two female detectives Unforgotten, another British show, still running, with a female lead inspector
  9. Vera, British television show starring the amazing Brenda Blethyn Endeavour, British television show that is a prequel to Inspector Morse
  10. With Six You Get Eggroll (1968) Some of the beach movies qualify: Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine, Beach Blanket Bingo, and How to Stuff a Wild Bikini (all three 1965); Ghost in the Invisible Bikini (1966) How about some James Bond: Goldfinger (1964), Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
  11. And then Throw Momma from the Train (1987)!
  12. What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962) What's New Pussycat? (1965) 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag (1997) Killers of the Flower Moon (Scorsese film to begin shooting in 2020)
  13. I love that newspaper headline and the newpaper's masthead: Dog River Howler!
  14. Da Vinci's Inquest and Da Vinci's City Hall were two closely related Canadian shows that took place in Vancouver. We can assume that The Dudley Do-Right Show took place in Canada, right?!
  15. I Confess, 1953 Hitchcock film with Montgomery Clift starring as a priest. It was filmed on location in Quebec City. Black Robe (1991), setting is New France, in the settlement that will become Quebec City.
  16. Unforgotten (British television show), Season 1: part of the plot revolves around the discovery of an illegitimate child.
  17. And Baby Makes Three (1949) Three Men and a Baby (1987)
  18. Boutros Boutros-Ghali, former UN secretary-general I know: you're asking yourself, "Why include that name here?" Because I can't stop thinking about all the times David Letterman used to joke about the man having the same name twice! David Letterman doesn't qualify, but his recurring joke does, sort of!
  19. Under the Yum Yum Tree (1963). One of Jack Lemmon's few sleazebag roles!
  20. How about The Flintstones and Dino, their pet dinosaur?! And I know that Godzilla (1954) is described as a monster, but it always looked like a dinosaur to me!
  21. The Heartbreak Kid (1972) (2007) Heartburn (1986)
  22. Love Me or Leave Me (1955) Funny Girl (1963) A Bridge Too Far (1977) All the King's Men (1949, 2006)
  23. I guessed that! I was just wondering if there were any other reason to add Madonna's name.
