  1. Much as I enjoy reading Stephen King--I agree, the idea sounds delicious--I don't think such a fantasy would have worked. Hitchcock had very little interest in making faithful adaptations of novels. King has been very vocal in his unhappiness when directors stray from the original work when adapting his novels (i.e. Kubrick's version of The Shining). Oh well. <sigh> How about Thomas Harris?
  2. Lots of parallels between "Rebecca" and "Jane Eyre" (the 1943 version) besides the great flame-scorched mansions! Both are based on classic gothic novels. Both movies starred Joan Fontaine. And both movies were scored by Bernard Hermann.

One of my favorite British TV series, "The Avengers," has an episode ("The Forget-Me-Knot") which begins (after the opening credits) with a hanging lamp that has been set swinging as a result of a fight. Wonder if director James Hill and teleplay writer Brian Clemens got the idea from this movie! [...] Judge for yourself: (opening credits end at 1:15).
