I just need clarification because I think you meant to write, "lick each others' stamps"?
If so, I can see where some would be offended. I guess it's like "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." It's how words are interrupted, and if you find it offensive and tacky, a little to much inuendo, well, you have every right to be.
I heard the announcer, and as far as them being unable to pronounce Malle's Au Revoir, Les Enfants, well, some of us Americans don't have the knack to pull it off to sound like a Frenchman, but I'm sure he tried hard and did his best. lol

I was happy for Mr. Lewis, but I was a little disappointed his speech was so short. However, it did appear he was having trouble breathing so I understand him hitting and running off. :-(
-
My mother, the greatest movie fan ever, didn't care for Jerry after he insulted her one night at the Copa Cabana, and even though she gave me my love for all that is classic Hollywood, I have to say I like Jerry and I'm glad he got the award tonight. He's made me laugh so hard I cried, and that is a gift, and his humanitarian work with MD is quite remarkable for the years he's been devoted to it, especially now at his age. My mom, regardless of her feelings toward him, never missed watching the telethons. She may not have appreciated his sense of humor, but she did appreciate all his hard work for his MD kids and for that I'm sure she was looking down on the award show tonight and was happy for him, too. :-)

Thanks, Izcutter! Well I'll be danged! I am very impressed with their command of the English language and their love of the old classics. I am especially impressed with their self control in not using typical message board slang. That takes a lot of self control and I find it hard not to do that here myself, and I'm old!
I was younger than they are when my love affair with the old movies began, which was long before there was a TCM glimmer in Ted's eyes, so I don't know why I find it so strange to find youngsters of the same ilk as I was as a kid. But if you don't mind, Izcutter, I'll eat my hat with some picanti. :-)
Okay, I Love Ray and Sarah, I apologize for suspecting you being older and having some fun with me. You guys rock! :-)

Maybe? You have to scroll far down to see the synopsis.

Okay, you and I Love Ray Milland have to go to your rooms now for being so young! :-(
Just kidding, of course. I still think my leg is being pulled and I'm going through some kind of TCM message board initiation, and it's seems you and Ray lover know each other, so... But I'll play along, and if I am wrong and you both are just kiddies, then I'll eat my hat. But if you are as young as you both claim, I'm really impressed with both of you for your writing and your love of the old movies and send you a big kudos. :-)

Whoops, no, not first, I meant to write fifth. lol I'll go back and fix it. lol

Now that scene with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed, well, to use a popular term in today's youth vernacular, "That's hot!" lol

I don't think I said this one this thread, but if I did, excuse me.
I want to thank all of you who have posted so far, and if I missed replying to you pleaes forgive me. It was not intentional. I'm just getting the feel for this message board so please give me a little time to get up to speed.
Also, there a but a handful of movies listed here not on my list of rewatchable movies. However, though they may not be rewatchable as in a gazillion bazillion times, they are worth two or three viewings. :-)

I've been an old movie fan since in uterus, but I remember my mom putting me on her feet and us dancing with Ginger and Fred on The Late Show in the mid to late 50's. :-)

I was in fifth grade and thought the teacher said President Kennedy was in the basement. I'd never heard the word assassinated before and I guess my ears deceived me and I began to fix my curls and get ready to meet him. It wasn't until I saw the brightest girl in my class crying that I came to understand what happened. I watched the following days play out on a black and white TV.

Hey! Thanks for catching that! TMC/TCM. I went in and changed it. :-)
I can ignore the comments on You Tube. It's mostly kids on there, and, yes, the profanity is over the top, but it's a way of life for many of them these days, regardless if it's on a public forum, and, in some cases, regardless if it's at home or at grandma's house. I hate to sound like an old fuddy duddy but I thought I came a long way, but, man, some of the youth today have come too long a way. IMO.

I think I may have missed responding to some who responded to me personally. Please forgive me. It is not intentional, and I'm not ignoring you, I'm just getting familiar with this site.
So many of the movies mentioned by all of you here are movies I have seen countless times and will watch them countless times more, and I can't tell all of you how thrilled I am to know I am not the only 'gazillion/bazillion' times movie watcher in the world. Most people think I'm crazy when I say, "Oh, I've seen that movie a milion times?" They always say the same thing, "How can you do that? Twice is enough for me." I hang my head in shame and walk away feeling mocked. NOT! lol I love my movies and I don't care what folks think of me for watching a movie more times than there are stars in the heavens. lol

I love all the Thin Man movies!!! And so many others on your list. :-)

I thought of google plex but figured it'd be too obscure. lol That's why I went with the gazillion bazillion. Everyone got that. lol
That was funny, Twelve Gazillion Bazillion Angry Men! Ha! As was your reference to our government's spending. lol

It's funny, I heard Hugh Hefner say, and I paraphrase, " A woman in lingerie leaves something to the imagination and there isn't anything sexier than that." Hugh Hefner said that! lol
Yes, I'm sure we could name a million more scenes in the old movies that were as titillating as any gratuitous hot and heavy scene in any given movie today.
Look, I'm not for, nor am I against R, X or XXX rated movies. Some would say art for art?s sake, and I guess today they have their place on movies shelves for those who want it, but it seems like most movie studios can't make a movie today, any movie, without that gratuitous sex scene or nude shot. Even the National Lampoon movies with Chevy Chase had nudity in them. WTH?! Why? Kids like those movies.
I was sitting watching a newer movie while babysitting my four year old nephew and it came to a scene with a couple walking into a bedroom. Not having seen the movie, I grew a little antsy and had my finger on the remote, but before the couple even embraced my nephew turned to me and asked, ?Are they going to get naked?? That was it, off went the movie and in went a DVD of Shirley Temple in Bright Eyes. lol
What really gets me is when I see a movie with a mild sex scene or a few curse words here and there and it turns out to be produced by Disney Studios. I think Walt would be turning in his grave seeing his name attached. lol
I still get whoozy thinking of Gable looking into Greer Garson's eyes in Adventure. lol

Um, I assume by your name you are male, so that explains the honesty. lol Woman are a lot less apt to be so forthright in giving their age, but it's refreshing to see some have. lol
I am pleasantly surprised by the age of the TCM viewers, and I think you're right, the average age of TCM viewers is most likely higher than most. I can only imagine if they showed commericals what the products would be. lol

Wow! Great movies the year you were born! I know On The Waterfront is the best of them from 1953 for me, and I was born on February 6, so happy belated birthday to you!

I, too, love Ginger and Fred! And two of my favorite Doris Day movies are Love Me or Leave Me and Midnight Lace. Yep, watch them over and over, too.
Also any 1930s Cagney gangster movies, and Dead End. Come to think of it, I probably love every movie I've ever watched with certain Golden Age stars and I can't think of one on my list I haven't seen those gazillion bazillion times and wouldn't watch again and again. I could watch, and have watched, the same movie over and over on the same day and not get tired of it! lol

Jerry Lewis finally gets his Oscar
in General Discussions
Posted
hamradio and metsfan-It's obvious we are Jerry fans, so, yes, he absolutely deserved this award, and for his movies as well. If I had to pick my fave of HIS movies it would be, uh, um, The Delicate Delinquent. NO! Rock a Bye Baby. NO! Visit To a Small Planet. NO! Family Jewels. NO! The Nutty Professor. I guess you can see I really don't know, because I liked Cinderfella, too. :-)
