Sorry for the computer error in "Joshua Logan as director" which comes up in HELLO DOLLY. It should have come up in the following movie: PAINT YOUR WAGON - 1969 - Lerner and Loewe's Broadway musical movie version was a box-office flop. Joshua Logan, the director, couldn't make Broadway magic with this film. With most of the songs from the original Broadway musical gone, terrible miscast in the leads, Lee Marvin, Clint Eastwood, and Jean Seberg, this film was simply awful.

DUCK SOUP - 1933 - Although considered by many (me included) as one of their best and funniest films, this Marx Brothers movie did not do well at the box office and as a result was their last film at Paramount. ADVENTURE - 1945 - "Gable's Back And Garson's Got Him" was the MGM slogan for this film, Gable's first film after returning from WWII duty with his favorite director Victor Fleming and Greer Garson who was MGM's leading lady. However, the film was a box office failure. The film did not affect Gable's career as much as it did Garson's. The films that followed for Miss Garson were no where near a match for her acting ability. CLEOPATRA - 1963 - Everything about Cleopatra was "overly" done and it showed at the box office. Even the romance of the Century "Liz and Dick" couldn't help. I personally happen to like this movie and it's worth the price of admission for Rex Harrison's wonderful performance as Caesar. THE CHASE - 1966 - Directed by Arthur Penn and Starring Marlon Brando with an ensemble cast of Jane Fonda, Robert Redford, James Fox, E.G. Marshall, Janice Rule, Robert , and the gorgeous Angie Dickinson, this film was a box office flop. I guess it tried to emulate "Peyton Place" which was an excellent film, but this one just couldn't cut the mustard. HELLO DOLLY - 1969 - Directed by Gene Kelly, one of Hollywood's greatest movie dancer/choreographers this film version of the Broadway smash starring Carol Channing was a box-office flop. Barbra Streisand's performance was too "campy" and even Walter Matthau couldn't save it. Joshua Logan, the director, couldn't make Broadway magic with this movie. A box office flop. THE GREAT GATSBY - 1974 - I've personally felt that F. Scott Fitzgerald's novels are very difficult to translate to the screen. However, they keep trying, especially with "The Great Gatsby". The casting of Robert Redford and Mia Farrow as Jay Gatsby and Daisy clashed in the "great romance" department although the supporting cast of Sam Waterston, Bruce Dern and Karen Black were terrific. But, nothing stopped it from becoming a box-office flop. POPEYE - 1980 - Why Robert Altman made this film is anybody's guess. The late great Robin Williams and his co-star Shelley Duvall as the "cartoon couple" Popeye and Olive Oil couldn't save this film from becoming a box-office flop. "1941" - 1979 - Steven Spielberg's box-office flop. I have nothing more to say on this film.

I agree, Princess. He was terrific in Another Thin Man. I'm going to leave this thread open for someone else to post.
