Lavendar, correct on all counts
Night And The City is a terrific film noir and Widmark is marvelous as is Jules Dassin's direction with a terrific cast including Gene Tierney and Googie Withers.
The remake with Robert De Niro in this gal's opinion is just plain lousy. I wish that if they're going to remake a movie they would remake a lousy film and make it into a good one - not the other way around. But that's another post for another time.
Lavendar, The thread is yours.

Thanks, Princess, I agree with you about My Pal Gus. It's a wonderful film and Richard Widmark who is one of my favorite actors is the focus of my next general trivia post.
Richard Widmark starred as a small-time hustler with huge ambitions in a film which takes place in London. There is a "remake" of this film starring a very famous actor in the role originated by Richard Widmark.
1. Name the 1950 movie
2. Name the director of the 1950 movie
3. Name Richard Widmark's character.
4. Name the actor who recreates the Richard Widmark character in the movie "remake"

Princess,
Correct on everything and especially the fact that he didn't need a microphone with that booming incredible voice of his. I first saw him in the Broadway musical "Carnival" (based on the film "LILI")starring Anna Maria Alberghetti, Kaye Ballard, James Mitchell, and Pierre Olaf. The first time he sang he stopped the show - his voice is that amazing. I was lucky enough to see him in 42nd Street and Chicago, but didn't get to see him in Promises, Promises. BTW I love everything Jerry Orbach. There is a Jerry Orbach Theater named after him which is located on the 3rd floor of The Snapple Theatre Center at 210 West 50th Street. The theater is primarily a stage and holds about 200 people and coincidentally right now they're performing "The Fantastiks".
The thread is yours.

Thanks, Swithin
This actor/singer began on the NY stage both on and off Broadway. He created the lead role in the longest running off Broadway musical and appeared as the lead in Broadway musicals choreographed by Bob Fosse and Gower Champion. He won a Tony Award for lead actor in a musical which was based on a movie. However, he is probably most known for the character he created on one of TV's longest ever dramatic crime series.
Who is this actor? What is the name of the off Broadway musical he starred in. Name the Broadway musical in which he won a Tony Award. Name the role he created and the name of the TV series in which he played this role.
