I absolutely love The Gods Must Be Crazy, but I haven't seen in quite a while and I wish I could see it again. Jamie Uys also directed Dirkie, another favorte of mine.

Maggie Smith is one my top favorite actresses of all time. She was great in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, and Celia Johnson was equally good.

Aliens is one of my favorites, a very well made sequel with Sigourney Weaver in excellent form.
The Fly is a fantastic horror movie.
-
I agree that Prizzi's Honor is one of John Huston's better movies (my favorite John Huston movie is The Dead).
I liked Brazil the first time I saw it, but i didn't fully appreciated until I saw it the second time.

Holly Hunter and Albert Brooks are excellent in Broadcast News. When he warns her about Tom and then confesses his love for her is my favorite scene in the movie.

The Fabulous Baker Boys and Enemies, A Love Story are easily the top movies this year for me. They're both well written, well directed, and well acted. Anjelica Huston and Lena Olin are the standouts in Enemies. Jeff Bridges and Beau Bridges are great in Fabulous, but Michelle Pfeiffer is smashing.
-
Dead Ringers, Die Hard, Big, and Working Girl are the standouts this year. I didn't see Cocoon: The Return because I didn't like the first one that much.
-
Miller's Crossing is an excellent movie, and Nuns on the Run was hilarious.
-
Barton Fink, Naked Lunch, and The Commitments are the most interesting movies this year. I also liked Class Action more than I thought I would.

The first time I saw it, I wasn't at all impressed. I felt it was one of the most undeserving Best Picture winners in the history of the Oscars. Many years later I watched it again, and liked it a bit more. After seeing it another 2 or 3 times, I've now grown fond of it, if not effusively so. I still think Reds or Raiders of the Lost Ark should have won Best Picture, though.
I didn't like it very much, either. The beginning is stunning, and then the movie went on at a very slow pace. The scenes that I remember are possibly the only scenes that I liked. Maybe I need to see it again, 2 or 3 more times.
It's interesting how we sometimes change our minds about a movie or book after a while.
And as for the Oscars that year, my favorite is Atlantic City.

Looking for Richard is the only film directed by Al Pacino that I've seen.
Daniel Day-Lewis, Joan Allen, and Paul Scofield are the main reasons for me to watch The Crucible; Paul Scofield gives a solid, intelligent performance as Danforth, a tricky character to play.
