- James Cagney -- I know that he could get tough when it was necessary. I read that during the filming of Angels with Dirty Faces, the Dead End Kids wreaked havoc on the set. They often ad-libbed their lines in order to throw the other actors off. When Leo Gorcey purposely ad-libbed his lines in a scene with James Cagney, Cagney stiff-armed Gorcey. From then on, the Dead End Kids behaved themselves on the set. Apparently, no one else had the guts to stand up to them. (I love this story!) - From what I've read, Lee Marvin was a pretty tough guy off screen.
