  1. > {quote:title=Hoosier205 wrote:}{quote}So is a high bitrate dual-layer DVD. What's the point? Content could be in HD via the HD channel. Content should be in HD via the HD channel. Hold them accountable rather than congratulating them for coming up short. That's simply NOT the same thing. High bitrate dual-layer DVD9 is NOT the same thing as actual HD content....your comparison doesn't make sense. HD content has a greater RESOLUTION (1080 for HD vs. 480 for SD) as well. Like someone else said here...write them a letter if you're not satisfied. Edited by: TCMWebAdmin on Jul 26, 2012 5:16 PM

At the very least it's a higher-quality representation of the SD signal.
  4. > {quote:title=helenbaby wrote:}{quote}TCMfan just posted a couple of times yesterday. You give this so called clique too much power. I find that people who don't like TCM or just like to act provocatively by stirring the pot only stay around until people get bored with the "debates." Exactly...and I really don't think there is a "clique" here at all.

Good example of "stirring the pot". ] Personally, I don't "worship at the altar of TCM"...in fact, I rarely watch it any longer.

I find that people who don't like TCM or just like to act provocatively by stirring the pot only stay around until people get bored with the "debates." I don't believe there is such a thing as a "clique" around here...only the regulars who have been here for a long time. IMHO, slapping a label like "clique" onto a chosen few is an infantile thing to do. It's simply a "provocative at" in itself. I could just as easily slap a "clique" label onto those who are suddenly welcoming back those who "stir the pot", as was done further down in this thread. That sounds clique-ish to me.
  9. I can't see any reason why TCM doesn't make more use of the SAP audio...once in awhile before a movie, there's a screen which states there's "descriptive audio" for the visually impaired on the SAP channel. SAP can be used for a lot of things...alternate foreign audio tracks, music-only, etc....but I assume the broadcast master would have to contain that extra information, and the studio would likely have to be the oens to create such a master for TCM's use.
  10. > {quote:title=musicalnovelty wrote:}{quote} One problem with having horror hosts for TCM's horror movies is: > As many of us fondly remember horror hosts hosting horror movies decades ago they came on and did their thing before, during commercial breaks, and after the movies. But on TCM of course, there are no commercial breaks, so the hosts wouldn't be able to much of their characters or routines, or whatever they may be known for that made them invited to be on in the first place. They'd just be introducing and then returning after the movies...only two appearances. What's wrong with that? Rob Zombie did the same thing on TCM Underground a few years back. Better something than nothing at all.
  11. > {quote:title=TCMfan23 wrote:}{quote}kriegerg69 , > > I wn the 'european version' on DVD. It was inclued in the bava dvd set. Where can I purchase this Italian version ? the only version i know out now is the the one i have. The European/Italian version can be bought by itself on Amazon Italian site: http://www.amazon.it/Maschera-Del-Demonio-Dvd/dp/B000CCTDOK/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1343312283&sr=1-1 It's a 2 disc set, with the second disc containing documentaries and other stuff relating to Mario Bava. The description says it has English subtitles, at least on the movie itself.
  12. Absolutely...there is no point at all to having "Intro" and "Outro" listed like that. Really pointless and wasteful...not to mention that some people are likely to ask "What is an Intro?" if they're not familiar with the term. It was a dumb idea.
  13. Like I said below, Countess, I've read that some independent horror hosts would likely enjoy doing such a gig for nothing...so it wouldn't cost TCM anything (or very little). Also bear in mind there's a slew of public domain movies for TCM to choose from, so TCM could expand its horror showings for nothing.
  14. > {quote:title=Sprocket_Man wrote:}{quote} > No, I agree: the Cukor version might've been a truly great movie if only they'd cut all the musical numbers out of it. I have to agree again...I've seen the Judy version several times...used to have it on laserdisc....but I find it way too long and would watch it thinking I wish they'd forget the musical numbers and get on with the story. Of course, there ARE such things as "fan edits" on the internet. Perhaps someone should do a dramatic "song-free" cut of the movie just to see how it would go.
  15. Quite honestly, I also think it's likely DVD on a large HDTV screen. I can't imagine there'd be many such places any longer which run actual film prints.
  16. *THE MONSTER CLUB* (1981) with Vincent Price and John Carradine, and Stuart Whitman...and Simon Ward, who just died a couple of days ago. It's an actual movie...the last one produced by Amicus...not compiled from a tv series. Based on stories by author R.Chetwynd-Hayes...which is the name of Carradine's character. The first one you described is the "Shadmock" story. He's not telekinetic, but does a whistle that causes something to burn up. The second one is the "Humgoo" story...it's a village full of ghouls who have eaten all the corpses in the graveyard and start luring live humans into the village. This is the current DVD cover (I have the disc...it's tremendous). This was the old VHS cover with Elvira.
  17. *The Road To Rio* with Hope and Crosby (amazing what Google can turn up!). Video here: http://www.casttv.com/video/yf10ng/road-to-rio-dance-with-wiere-brothers-video "Everybody here likes Chicken Cacciatore and there's a few like chopped chicken liver"
  18. > {quote:title=clore wrote:}{quote}They can both be viewed or download online here, being in public domain: > > Thanks for the tip. I'll sample the print quality and see if they're worth watching. If they are, I'll make the sacrifice of watching them on my PC. The problem with that is that the seating isn't as comfy as the couch, and the screen is smaller. You can either use a program to burn to DVD, or with the right connection play it on your computer and watch on your tv.
  19. You'd have to buy the Italian DVD in order to see it.
  20. It was seen in *The 7 Faces of Dr. Lao* , in one of the sideshow tents. Somewhere online I've seen a page with several photos of it in other movies, but can't locate it right now.
  21. > {quote:title=Sepiatone wrote:}{quote} > It seems to me I HAVE heard background music in much of *Dracula* , but it was so faint as to be almost non-existant. No, you're mistaken...the only music in that film are the opening and closing titles, and the concert sequence.
  22. > {quote:title=Hoosier205 wrote:}{quote}Of course they can. That's how they ban based on duplicate accounts. That's how internet forum work, even ones using the system TCM utilizes. Wrong. TCM admins here have specifically stated before that they don't block IP numbers because it can cause problems for others using the same IP provider. That's not how all internet forums work. Here, they simply ban an account...which explains why some who have been banned show up again under a different username account.
  23. Good question...I didn't see anything on their site indicating what format was used for cinema. http://www.maxbloomscafenoir.com/
