I like it....it has camp value. I've never taken the film too seriously at all. I love the ladies'room scene with Susan Hayward crying out (with Patty Duke in the stall, flushing Hayward's wig): "My god! She's throwing it in the CAN!!" :^0

I don't watch it on TCM any longer since I bought the restored DVD a few years ago....which looks beautiful.

So many films and too few true classics!

We all love Misswonderly....house mother to us all on occasion. :x -
Good luck, because there is also a decrease in the production of CD's...look how many music stores have gone out of business, because so many new releases these days are online-only digital downloads. One day, there will be NO more CD's or possibly even DVD's, because it will all be digital downloading completely to flash drives, etc. CD's are likely to be the first format to go.

The movie was shot in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio...most likely open matte but composed for that ratio and then masked in the projector theatrically. TCM likely just showed the open matte/full frame print. Now, I realize that composition-wise, that's incorrect, but I have less of a problem with a movie shot for 1.85:1 being shown full screen than I do with an anamorphic "scope" film done in 2.35:1 being shown full screen...because in that instance, the movie has actually been panned-and-scanned and had half the image cut off the ends of the screen.

Station logos and bugs are almost pointless now as far as letting a viewer know what channel they've tuned into...because cable boxes and many (if not most) televisions will display the name of the channel or an abbreviation of it when one either changes channels, turns the tv on, or presses the Display or Info button on their remote. All that makes the use of on-screen "bugs" or logos pointless. Be thankful that TCM hasn't resorted to the annoying-as-heck practice of on-screen garbage and scrawls which tell you what is coming on next....or next week, for that matter. That's one of the many reasons why I don't....if rarely ever...watch anything on television anymore. I despise the on-screen clutter and garbe that's annoyingly distracting from the program I would like to view. TCM also only runs the television rating for a movie BEFORE a movie starts....not every few minutes or so like the networks do (which is usually when a program comes back from a commercial break).

I was just about to post a link to archive.org....what AMC is doing is NOTHING new. There's thousands of public domain movies right there on the archive.org site, as well as other places. Flop idea...like when AMC tried several years ago releasing DVD's in an AMC line of what were basically public domain movies that ANYONE can release. The AMC site also has their watermark/bug in the corner of the movies...archive.org does not.

So many films and too few true classics!
kriegerg69 replied to Kuklapolitan's topic in General Discussions
Sheesh! :0 IMHO it's all subjective....the old "one man's meat is another man's poison" (or something like that). "Apples and oranges", as it were. Misswonderly was 100% correct with her comment. :x -
What movies actually have these movie cliches?
kriegerg69 replied to skimpole's topic in General Discussions
BEACH BLANKET BINGO has just that: Linda Evans gets tied to a log by Timothy Carey, and heads for the sawmill blade ("I saw this in my favorite movie, 'The Perils of Pauliiiine' !"). Harvey Lembeck is the one who ends up being comically sawed in half. -
To be precise (because I often keep track of this): The TCM logo IS displayed by TCM....not by your cable provider. Same way that any of the major networks (NBC, CBS, ABC, etc.) run their logo....it's not done by your cable company. TCM only runs their logo in the corner of the screen for ONE MINUTE every 20 minutes throughout a movie, starting from the beginning of a movie...a movie beginning at 12:00 noon will have the logo shown at 12:20, 12:40, 1:00, 1:20. etc. On some shorts run as filler between movies, the TCM logo is often displayed throughout the entire short...again, for copy reasons. Same reason someone else explained: for copy prevention/identification. I believe even pay channels like HBO and others do this now. That's the way it is and will likely never change. Stop complaining. If it bothers you so much then don't watch television.

Clips Used in Trailers ALWAYS Shot Separately?
kriegerg69 replied to Ascotrudgeracer's topic in General Discussions
Depends on when the trailer is released to theaters...in some instances, trailers are shot specifically with footage for the trailer that isn't even in the film itself...*Citizen Kane*'s trailer is probably the most famous example of this. Hitchcock frequently shot trailers specifically with himself in them (at least in his later years) which had little footage (if any) from the film itself...*Psycho* and *The Birds* are two prime examples. One trailer (the original, I think) for *House of Wax (1953)* doesn't even have any clips in it....just on-screen titles and wording. If they studio wants to get a trailer out early, they're likely to be using early-shot footage which can be alternate angles and such...but if the trailer isn't assembeled until after shooting is completed, then the footage used can likely be from the final footage in the film. -

Suggestion for October fright film guest programmers
kriegerg69 replied to infinite1's topic in General Discussions
Au contrare...there are many local tv horror hosts who are actually more knowledgeable than some so-called historians. Personally, I think it's a great idead, and TCM would probably be able to get some lesser-known (nationally, anyway) horror hosts (not necessary to get the big ones like Elvira, Zacherle, etc.) who do local/cable/internet shows and they'd probably love to host horror movies for nothing...no cost to TCM (although they'd probably want to be able to plug their own websites or local-tv programs). AMC has had hosts many times in the past for their MonsterFests in October....why shouldn't TCM do something similar? -

Come ON!! Let's Get Back To Real Classic Films
kriegerg69 replied to WDS225's topic in General Discussions
"I just edited this message because I noticed WDS225 has just registered with only one post. Could this be the troll that everyone keeps saying registers under different userids? Robbie" Probably, Robbie. The other tipoff is that this person always seems to reply by clicking Reply to his own message which starts a thread (such as this thread), and then he manually types in "In response to...(whomever)" instead of clicking the Reply which is actually FOR the response he's replying to. This is likely the fourth time or so (I lost count) he's joined under a different name. He's not very clever and easily identifiable. BTW...I didn't see the humor in his post which started this thread. Not a very intelligent comment, just another "complaint about TCM" post. -

Films You've Ruined by Watching Them TOO MUCH!
kriegerg69 replied to Ascotrudgeracer's topic in General Discussions
Pushed into the background for now....eventually will be gone forever, like a lot of other things. Technology and society is changing, and eventually radio...as we now know it...will be gone. Maybe not in our lifetime, but it will eventually...
