  1. I think it has something do do with my Comcast service...I not only don't get email reminders from the TCM site, but I also have periodic problems receiving confirmation emails when I register on a site...and yet NONE of these turn up in my Spam folder. They simply don't appear...period. Any idea of how to get around this?
  2. > {quote:title=222characteractor wrote:}{quote} > I usually stop watching a movie if there is any smoking being done. I realize that classic movies often featured much smoking, so I try to watch those unless the smoking is overdone. That's a ridiculous reaction, IMHO....what else do you stop watching when other practices or habits appear onscreen? Some amusing smoking: The Addams Family tv series....either Gomez and his cigars, or Morticia with her "Do you mind if I smoke?", then producing the smoke mysteriously out of nowhere surrounding her own body (a routine ripped off by Fenella Fielding in "Carry On Screaming"). Then there's David Johansen as the Ghost of Christmas Past in Scrooged (1988), asking Bill Murray "Do you mind if I smoke?", and the smoke initially blows out of his ears ("Smoke! Smoke! Just watch the road!!" Murray shouts back), and later when Murray gets out of the cab....the smoke billowing out as he opens the door.
  3. Ham, that's exactly the sort of thing I posted in another thread...and MY reply got deleted and then the thread was locked. Point made...
  4. This thread is nonsense and obviously started by a troll....who has posted nonsense like this before....but instead of doing something to get rid of the trolling, the admins here keep deleting MY comments about this ridiculous person and allows others to post comments about it. The most I can do is to click "Ignore Member"....like I had to do with another troll here. The admins simply don't care about this crud. This thread is a load of you-know-what and should be deleted (NOT locked like another troll thread I commented on), and the poster who started it either moderated or banned. Period. This is a waste of everyone else's time. This is what this person has posted recently....and always the same baloney: Recent Messages: Point your RSS reader here for a feed of the latest messages in all forums when is a classic no longer a classic? General Discussions, Jan 12, 2011 since tcm hacks all movies now, should tcm call its movies classics? they have zoomed in on the act... scrooge, a classic hacked by tcm General Discussions, Dec 21, 2010 after 2 minutes of watching scrooge i noticed tcm hacking again, why does tcm zoom on people, we don... Re: tcm hacked movies General Discussions, Dec 17, 2010 interesting how u must attack instead of defending tcm's hacked movies. why dont u just tell me why... tcm hacked movies General Discussions, Dec 17, 2010 do you all like the way tcm hacks all their classic movies. it looks like my drunk uncle was filmin...
  5. Well, my previous reply got deleted, and likely because I was simply speaking the TRUTH. Again....Destroyer, you say you won't bring it up again and yet you bumped this thread with a reply to your own post and DID mention this movie again. Like someone said in another thread.....do everyone a favor and go AWAY.
  6. Just in general, regarding this thread's subject: Long ago it was said that there are only 100 or so movie plots in existence...and every movie is basically a remake or redoing of a previously existing film.
  7. One of my fave Blake Edwards movies....and when I originally saw it theatrically, I didn't care for it. It's wickedly funny...in fact, I think some of Blake's best films are the ones he did in the late 70's-80's, starting with "10" (which some consider to be his finest film....and it's also one of my two fave films of his, the other being Victor/Victoria). "Oh hello, Polly...did you come to see my boobies?" :-)

  9. Other cast members still alive are Richard Anderson (Chief Quinn) and Robert Dix (Crewman Grey). Some of the other younger actors who were crewmen may also still be around, but these two are certainly higher up in the credits. Quinn is the ship's communications officer, and Grey is the one who gets stepped on by the Id Monster. I also just read (horrors) that a prequel/remake is in the works for 2013. Presumably it will dramatize what happened to the Bellerophon group prior to the arrival of the ship in the 1956 classic, and continue the story from there.
  10. You're right...I don't try the email reminders that often, but the last couple of ones that I did never showed up in my email...not even in my spam folder. Something is NOT right with the email reminder system here.
  11. "Tape"? You're using outdated, dead technology....certainly the format....and need to get a DVR which WILL record an entire marathon. BTW...T160 VHS tapes could record up to 8 hours.
  12. @the complainers: You DO have one of these that came with your tv, don't you? It's called a remote control. There are two buttons on it: Channel up, and Channel down. They change the channels. Try using them once in awhile.
  13. > {quote:title=Bronxgirl48 wrote:}{quote} > Richard Dreyfuss to Marsha Mason in THE GOODBYE GIRL: "Any buttered toast?" ...or as Ed would say on "Ed, Edd n Eddy": "BUTTERED TOAST!" ...or maybe it was Fabio: ...or even William Shatner:
  14. LOL....good one. They NEVER get a shopping bag big enough to set the bread down into, or have the bread wrapped or anything. It ALWAYS has the end sticking out....and it's usually a large loaf of Italian bread, too. Never anything like Wonder Bread, etc.
  15. Well...according to the schedule it was: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0221241/ Hollywood Scout (1945) "One of Pete Smith's assistants auditions animal acts for his short subjects." Amazing what looking at the TCM schedule will turn up. :-)
  16. > {quote:title=misswonderly wrote:}{quote} > What's the SAP channel? > You're kidding, right? SAP audio has been around since the 1980's.....for at least 25 years.
  17. Yeah, the movie where everyone who worked on it died from cancer...because some idiot decided to film it on a former nuclear test site, and the radiation left behind was the reported cause of the cancer.
  18. "Camera angles have changed"? NOT possible. Ridiculous. This thread is a major joke, right? Should have been titled "Scrooge - A Trolling Thread". Either a couple of those who have commented here are either completely uneducated or simply utter idiots.
  19. Technically, they're not really "bootlegging" per say, but illegally making movies available on the web. > {quote:title=hamradio wrote:}{quote} > Bootlegging videos can make one wear an orange jump suit.
  20. Aawww, Hamradio....that IS the cutest thing I've seen in a long time. Classic.
  21. Yesterday I watched the DVD of Victor/Victoria with the commentary track featuring Blake Edwards and Julie Andrews, which was fantastic to hear for the first time. Something TCM should consider for some of its movies, when it's available because of a DVD release, is to have audio commentary on the secondary SAP audio for viewers to choose from. That would be a nice feature to have available on TCM.
  22. Exactly....this is NOT the place for discussion or "promotion" of bootlegging. That's not to say that some here don't deal in such things, just that such things should NOT be discussed here.
  23. Oh, I'm sure I've see a lot of aluminum trees in many movies over the years, as well as various tv episodes and specials...don't forget the bit with the aluminum tree in "A Charlie Brown Christmas". Classic stuff.
  24. Whine, whine whine...if you don't like the programming, then don't watch it. Jeez, I can't believe how so many people here simply complain about the TCM programming not being the way THEY want it to be ALL the time. "You can satisfy some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time...but you can't satisfy all of the people all of the time". Can you?
