  1. One of my fave Blake Edwards movies....and when I originally saw it theatrically, I didn't care for it. It's wickedly funny...in fact, I think some of Blake's best films are the ones he did in the late 70's-80's, starting with "10" (which some consider to be his finest film....and it's also one of my two fave films of his, the other being Victor/Victoria).

"Oh hello, Polly...did you come to see my boobies?" :-)

  2. Other cast members still alive are Richard Anderson (Chief Quinn) and Robert Dix (Crewman Grey). Some of the other younger actors who were crewmen may also still be around, but these two are certainly higher up in the credits. Quinn is the ship's communications officer, and Grey is the one who gets stepped on by the Id Monster.

I also just read (horrors) that a prequel/remake is in the works for 2013. Presumably it will dramatize what happened to the Bellerophon group prior to the arrival of the ship in the 1956 classic, and continue the story from there.

  3. You're right...I don't try the email reminders that often, but the last couple of ones that I did never showed up in my email...not even in my spam folder.

Something is NOT right with the email reminder system here.

  4. Technically, they're not really "bootlegging" per say, but illegally making movies available on the web.

  5. Yesterday I watched the DVD of Victor/Victoria with the commentary track featuring Blake Edwards and Julie Andrews, which was fantastic to hear for the first time. Something TCM should consider for some of its movies, when it's available because of a DVD release, is to have audio commentary on the secondary SAP audio for viewers to choose from. That would be a nice feature to have available on TCM.

  6. Whine, whine whine...if you don't like the programming, then don't watch it. Jeez, I can't believe how so many people here simply complain about the TCM programming not being the way THEY want it to be ALL the time.

    Can you?

    > The Homecoming, a Christmas Story is posted at Cinemageddon.net, the best free movie site on the web. They got everything...except Hot Spell.

You gotta stop mentioning that site when you do now and then, because they do NOT have just "free" movies which are public domain...they mostly have COPYRIGHTED movies, and they are a torrent sharing site which would NOT like their name being spread on a major internet board like this.

  8. I agree....aside from Cabaret, Arthur and Junie Moon, I also think she's overrated. I think part of her appeal seems to stem from the fact she's the daughter of a true legend, and Liza also has has problems with pills and booze like her more famous parent.

    > You should check out ANOTHER good, if not great version - the 1999 TV movie that stars Patrick Stewart. It will be on TNT on December 21, and is well worth the effort.....

I just watched that again the other day and I also really enjoy it...the different thing about Stewart's portrayal of Scrooge is that, instead of the usual (almost stereotypical) depiction of Scrooge simply being mean, Stewart's Scrooge is a man who is hurting and in emotional pain. He's not just over-the-top nasty, but a man who has been hurt by others and by life and even says to the charity collectors who visit him "I wish to be left alone"...and says it with hurt in his voice.
