I'm searching for the title of a movie that I believe was on TCM approximately two years ago.It was shot around the 30's or early 40's? I believe this movies was about 1 hour long so it may have actually been a short.
The setting for the movie was an older combination book/gift store. A dark haired gentleman approaches the shop just as he is about to close. He enters and after some verbal interaction with the older shop keeper he kills him. Not long after he hears noises upstairs so he goes to investigate. He then runs into another dark haired gentleman who talks about him selling his soul.
The character is the devil and I think he was played by Orson Welles or possibly Jackie Gleason?
During the talk with the devil he hears knocking on the front door. The devile suggests the killer open the door to let the individusl in and then kill them too.
I'm thinking the devil thought the shop was closed to early and the individual knocking might go for help.
I dont recall the Driector, but I believe there was a Hitchcock or Mankiewicz connection.
