  1. It was a few years back that I saw this documentary on the PBS called Bright Leaves. It was made by a descendant of the tobacco family that the original book,Bright Leaf, was based on. Of course, Cooper and Pat Neal co-starred in the Bright Leaf movie based on that book. It was a well-received documentary. The reason I'm talking about it is that there was some kind of event or film festival in the area where this film took place and Patricia Neal came back to participate in it. She was interviewed in this documentary; and she talked on and on, very openly affectionately, about how Gary Cooper was the love of her life. It was very enlightening.
  2. Sexy Rexy agrees with you-- " But use proper English, you're regarded as a freak."
  3. Well, I'd probably have to paraphrase the great woman herself, or at least Miss Lucille LeSewer: "If you know what you wanna drink, then you better bring it with you!"-- Now, that Dame is not only classy, but she's smart too.
  4. Star-- yes it was surely, " Josephine, commonly called Jo". Gretchen Wyler played Peggy Dayton on Broadway. And I've never seen that album cover for Silk Stockings. Because I bought mine in London years ago and that one looks like it comes from France. Up next--A Star turn--
  5. I think I'd rather see a combination of Lon jr., Bela & Karloff-- -- and we could start with Bride of the Monster because Cave Girl has good taste. I bet we'd get a lot of votes with that line-up.
  6. Newbie - - For one post, you had an awful lot to say. RE : your name You would not be the first person to say this sort of thing. But I would like to say one thing in Joan Crawford's defense: You have got to admire a woman who took a gold flask of whiskey with her every place she went. That was a classy Dame!
  7. Andy Williams is my favorite male singer. I used to go to his live Christmas shows. At the end of all the Christmas music he would sing Moon River. Before he would sing the song, he would explain that Moon River was his Christmas gift that just kept on giving.
  8. The another thing about the movie - - years ago I was always playing Moon River on the piano from the sheet music with the movie poster on the cover. I had not seen the movie but I looked at all the actors named and they all seem to fit in perfectly except Mickey Rooney. I used to wonder what in the world is Mickey Rooney doing in this movie? He just didn't seem to fit in. It was years later that I finally saw what he did in the movie. And I just couldn't believe it.???
  9. No, I think it must be Indian English - - which is the English of every customer service rep that I have for my cell phone, credit cards, and online streaming accounts. And ironically they're all named Johnny and Susie.
  10. I believe the movie leaves the part out where she has sexual relations with some natives in Africa-- if that was in the movie I missed it.
  11. I don't think I've seen the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans show in a long while. But I did recognize Gabby Hayes in that last still. Next song-- and this is short and sweet: " She was real cool and low." This is a song from a musical that was on Broadway and later made into a motion picture. We need the name of the composer and/or lyricist, the vehicle and any artists who performed the number on Broadway or in the motion picture.
  12. My favorite formum is Favorites because everyone comes to Classic Movies because they have a favorite movie, favorite movie star, favorite movie director, favorite movie studio, a favorite genre or a Favorite favorite. It's fun to hear other people's favorite stars and movies and sometimes they intersect with your favorites--and that's even more fun. But it looks like you forgot Favorites.???
  13. What a beautiful couple. (And I can't stand to look at Lex Barker anyway.)
  14. Not an easy choice, but I've never seen King Kong and I understand Troy explains the plot very well, so I'm going to go with Troy Donahue. Next: Gardner McKay or Brett Halsey
  15. This tap dancer started in Vaudeville. So for years he did the same routines over and over again. When he was signed by a studio, they feared that he wouldn't be able to appear in many musicals because he had difficulty learning new steps fast. They gave him a poor prognosis for success. But with his strong Vaudeville background, he eventually was able to pick up new material, proving the studio bigwigs wrong. Please name this tap dancer and at least one movie that proves how wrong they really were.
  16. Raymond Burr was hired to play Perry Mason by the show's executive producer, former actress Gail Patrick.

  18. Of course, Miles, I can name the song. It's Don't Fence Me In. Cole Porter had the facility to be able to write any kind of style of song on demand. Of course, I have no idea what movie Roy Rogers sang it in. Miles, that's your department. But I can read and Wiki says it was Hollywood canteen and of all things a movie called Don't Fence Me In. Go figure.
  19. Miles, you never disappoint-- I don't have to tell you how I learned this number. I have audio cassette tapes of the Fred Astaire TV specials. I remember the first Fred Astaire live special in 1958 on NBC. My father was watching it and really liked the dancing. I remember asking him, "who is Fred Astaire"? Miss Otis Regrets was on the third TV special, Astaire Time in 1960. Bravo, Miles, it's all yours--
