Story of Women, Une Affaire de Femmes, is a Claude Chabrol film based on a true story about the last woman in France to be guillotined. Her name was Marie- Louise Giraud. Her crime was being an abortionist. Under the pro-Nazi French collaborationist government - - stationed at Vichy--abortion was a capital offense. Mme. Giraud was a poor wife and mother, with two small children in Cherbourg, who had a hard time making ends meet during the occupation of France. Like many French women, her husband was in a German prisoner camp. Barely getting by doing domestic work, she starts to help pregnant friends and neighbors by giving them abortions. Soon the demand is so great that she charges money for the service. Her husband returns from Germany and subsequently turns her over to the pro-Nazi French authorities. She's found guilty by a judicial jury and is sentenced to be guillotined. Isabelle Huppert, portrayed Marie-Louise Giraud, won the Venice Film Festival 1988 Best Actress Award for her role in Une Affaire de Femmes. One of the greatest actresses in the world of Cinema, Isabelle Huppert's crowning achievement is her portrayal of Emma Bovary in Claude Chabrol's Madame Bovary for which she won Best Actress at the Moscow International Film Festival in 1991.

Two famous tap dancers were contracted to dance together in a movie. Both of them were movie stars and had never previously done a number together. When they finally decided on the number they wanted to do in this movie, one of the dancers was unhappy--this dancer felt that the number wasn't a big enough artistic or technical challenge. He/she let their feelings be known around the studio. The other tap dancer sarcastically retorted, " What is it she/he wants to do? Nijinsky's Afternoon of a Faun?" We need the names of the two tap dancers. Please identify the one who was dissatisfied with the number, the name of the number the two eventually performed and the movie in which they appeared. (Extra credit for the name of the movie's director)

Jeremy Brett had the time to be more thorough and exacting like David Suchet. Basil Rathbone was a movie star and had so many things going on like major studio work (i.e. in making Flynn and Power look good)Broadway stage and radio work ect. However, Basil set the standard that Jeremy Brett worked from. Jeremy really devoted his whole life to it just like David Suchet. He was an amazing man. Next: I started working with Max Sennett. At one time I worked in a studio under President Kennedy's father. My forte was comedy, but I had some good dramatic roles as well. I never stayed at one Studio for too long because I signed multiple picture deals. Do you know me?

Considering both Tracy and Loretta Young were devout Catholics when they have their flaming affair around the time of Man's Castle, I guess whatever goes double for them.

Anyone know why TCM doesn't seem to show some films

Debra--I checked out In Name Only several years ago from my local public library on DVD. Nowadays they have all these services like Hoopla that you can check out movies on your tablet from library services all over the country, if you have a local library card. It makes interlibrary loan look very twentieth-century. -

It's a British Invasion Group - - that's why The Stones were hot .It's the number one British Invasion group, The Beatles. When it was all unraveling for the Beatles they made a historical documentary called Let It Be - - while they were recording the album Let It Be. So before your very eyes you get to see the Beatles disintegrate. George Harrison is the one who had the quote about playing or not playing. And he was talking to Paul McCartney. This is the film where each Beatle is in his own separate world , except for John who shares his with Yoko Ono. I don't think she actually performs on this record but she stays with John Lennon just as if she was one of the group. And, of course, Billy Preston is participating on this recording, that's how he got the moniker as the fifth Beatle. Finally, this is the film where they play Get Back on the roof during a London lunch hour. It's rock and roll reality TV at its worst or best! I declare this thread is open.

I said I wouldn't give any more hints and I'm ready to throw in the towel. Go back to Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones, that's where I said you were hot. Jefferson Airplane are from San Francisco on another continent and play a different kind of music-- what I call sickadelic rock. And if you go back to the hints, you have to remember you're looking for a documentary.

Growing up, I loved all that Lana Turner soap opera stuff. So I found myself buying all those DVDs. One had the fabulous Portrait in Black paired with a Jean Louis Madame X. -
Since I don't know who Norah Jones is, I have to go with Carolyn Jones - - Next: Rodney Dangerfield or George Carlin

It's not that group but you're starting to get hot.

Last hint-- the guitarist was in a rock and roll group where all the people in the group were equal. He was talking to another member of the group. And the film is not fiction it's a documentary.

Tyrone Power was one of the greatest matinee idols of the golden age of Hollywood. Errol Flynn was the only swashbuckler who would be considered to be his equal. Pirates, Zorro, matadores, noblemen, conquistadors-- if it was a period piece and adventure, Ty did it. These kind of roles plus his unbelievably handsome good looks probably made a lot of people think that he was discovered for the movies and never worked on the stage. But actually Tyrone Power started on the stage in Katharine Cornell's company. Acting in his family goes all the way back to his great-grandfather. His father Tyrone Power senior was a stage actor who went into silent movies; he had just started in talkies when he died of a heart attack. Ty Power's last movie, Witness for the Prosecution, was directed by Billy Wilder. Billy Wilder told anyone who would hear he thought Power was a great actor and that's why he selected him-- the director had a high opinion of Power's acting ability and never thought of him as just a matinee idol. Ty's favorite movie was Nightmare Alley. It's a tour-de-force. It's best for you just to see it because I can't really describe it. But Ty goes from being a a sophiscated rich psychic to ending up as a carnival geek-freak. I swear I did not make that up. My favorite Tyrone Power movies are - - The Sun Also Rises, Witness for the Prosecution, Zorro and The Razor's Edge. My first Tyrone Power movie, that I saw when I was a kid, was Lloyd's of London. I only found out recently that it was the first movie that he ever made for 20th Century Fox, his first starring role. Marsha, thank you for your thorough information on the career of Tyrone Power. And Swithin you're correct and first--your turn!
